Fourth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry wasn't as fortunate, as France's Arthur Cazaux took down the Argentine 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Cazaux smashed 16 aces past Etcheverry and saved 10 of 11 break points.
Also advancing to the quarterfinals were No. 7 seed Francisco Comesana and Juan Manuel Cerundolo, both of Argentina, plus Swiss wild card Jerome Kym.

Top seed Andre Rublev of Russia rallied from a set down to knock off unseeded American Emilio Nava 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals in Los Cabos, Mexico.
No. 3 seed Denis Shapovalov of Canada swept Australia's Tristan Schoolkate 6-3, 6-2. In the semifinals Friday, Shapovalov will play No. 8 seed Adam Walton, who defeated fellow Australian James Duckworth 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday.
No. 7 seed Aleksandar Kovacevic played Argentina's Juan Pablo Ficovich in the late match. The winner of that was to face Rublev in the semifinals Friday.

Defending champion Alexei Popyrin beat fifth-seeded Holger Rune of Denmark 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday night to reach the National Bank Open quarter-finals. The Australian extended his winning streak at the Canadian ATP Masters 1000 to nine matches after a breakthrough title at the event last year. Aug 2 (Reuters) - Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko earned the biggest win of her career on Saturday, beating top seed Coco Gauff 6-1 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open in Montreal. Mboko dropped her racket and covered her face in disbelief as the packed crowd leapt to their feet after the 18-year-old tournament wild card sealed the victory in just over an hour. "Thank you, you helped me so much," she told the home crowd in French during an on-court interview. She called her first-ever appearance in the quarterfinals of a WTA 1000 event "incredible," especially after toppling reigning French Open champion Gauff. Mboko was helped along the way by her error-prone opponent, who never found her rhythm on serve and failed to convert any of her five break point opportunities.
