Quebec provincial police say this has been the deadliest construction holiday in 10 years on the province's roads and trails.
Police say 38 people died in collisions involving vehicles during the two-week period spanning July 18 to Aug. 3, including 31 on the road network.

In comparison, there were 17 deaths during last year's holiday.
The victims include three children under the age of 10 and one adult who died in a single vehicle crash southeast of Quebec City on Saturday.
The summer construction holiday is one of the busiest travel periods of the year, with an estimated one-third of Quebecers on vacation.
Police say distracted driving, speeding and driving while impaired were factors in many of the crashes.

Police say a man is facing charges after two people were randomly assaulted in downtown Vancouver over the weekend, including a tourist from Germany. Winnipeg police investigate 5-vehicle Monday morning crash on Ellice Avenue
Two people are in hospital after a five-vehicle crash in the West End Monday morning, Winnipeg police say. Officers were called to the scene after an incident around 9 a.m., when four vehicles stopped at a red light on Ellice Avenue and Banning Street and were hit from behind by a 2007 Nissan Qashqai, police said, causing significant damage to all of the vehicles involved. The Nissan driver, a man in his 70s, and a woman who was a passenger in his vehicle were taken to hospital in unstable condition, although they were later upgraded to stable. Police said none of the other people involved in the crash had injuries severe enough to end them to hospital. Texas governor orders arrest of ‘delinquent' Democrats who fled to block vote
Texas Republicans are moving to arrest a group of legislators who fled the state to restrict the government's ability to reconfigure electoral boundaries in a manner they say would diminish the voting power of minority groups. On Monday, Texas State Gov. Greg Abbott accused the defectors of abandoning their duties and breaking the law. 'By fleeing the state, Texas House Democrats are holding hostage critical legislation to aid flood victims and advance property tax relief. There are consequences for dereliction of duty,' he said in a press release. 'Speaker Dustin Burrows just issued a call of the Texas House and issued warrants to compel members to return to the chamber,' he continued. 'To ensure compliance, I ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to locate, arrest, and return to the House chamber any member who has abandoned their duty to Texans,' he continued. Texas's Republican-controlled state House, therefore, could not hold a scheduled vote on the new district maps on Monday afternoon. The House planned to try again Tuesday, even with no expectation that Democrats would return. President Trump and Abbott want to redraw the Texas congressional map in the hopes of adding five more Republican seats in Texas in the midterm elections. If they succeed, it would increase the party's chance of maintaining its slim U.S. House majority, which currently sits at 219-212.
