Celebration marks RMC annual awards function

Speaking on the occasion, Collector Prasanthi said that such events offer a welcome break and refreshments for officials and staff who work under constant pressure. She noted that the awards not only boost morale but also instill a sense of responsibility. She urged everyone to maintain the same level of dedication and continue working wholeheartedly for public welfare. Commending Commissioner Ketan Garg, she appreciated the initiative for combining vision-driven governance with uplifting programmes for staff well-being.
Commissioner Ketan Garg stated that the objective of the event was to recognise the dedication and excellence of officials and staff who have excelled in their duties. He explained the corporation's achievements over the past year in areas such as revenue generation and the Swachh Andhra initiative, attributing this success to the collective efforts of all departments. Expressing confidence in continued teamwork, he expressed hope that RMC would soon become the top municipal body in the state.
Outstanding performers from the Revenue, Engineering, Health, and City Planning departments were honoured with certificates and cash awards.
Staff from various ward secretariats across the city were also recognised for their contributions.

Stress on combating drug abuse
Rajamahendravaram: An impactful awareness programme aimed at combating drug abuse was successfully conducted at the Government Autonomous College here on Monday. The initiative, held under the guidance of district collector P Prasanthi, was announced by the college principal Dr K Ramachandra Rao. Dr Rao highlighted that the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' awareness programme featured a compelling Burrakatha performance by the Vibhuti Uma Shankar Kala Jatha troupe. He explained how the traditional folk narrative format effectively conveyed the severe consequences and legal repercussions associated with drug abuse, resonating deeply with the audience. The programme saw significant participation from the college community, including Vice-Principal Dr Sriramamurthy, Assistant Principal G Chandra Sekhar, Eagle Club Coordinator Dr Jalla Suresh, NCC officers Lieutenant Dr Esub Basha Shaik and Dr K Anusha, and a large number of NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and other students.

Over 300 paint Swarnandhra vision on Krishna riverbank
VIJAYAWADA: The tranquil banks of the Krishna river turned into a vibrant canvas on Sunday morning as more than 300 children and youth participated in a floor painting and drawing competition at Haritha Beram Park in Vijayawada. Organised by the District Administration and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), the event highlighted themes such as Swarnandhra Vision @2047, P4 policy, Swachhandhra, Save Water, and Say No to Single-Use Plastic. District Collector G Lakshmisha lauded the participants for combining artistic flair with social awareness. 'These paintings mark the beginning of a vibrant Vijayawada,' he said, announcing a series of weekly events like yoga, photography, and birding contests at various tourist spots, including Bhavani Island and Gandhi Hills. VMC Commissioner Dhyan Chandra HM emphasised the importance of such events in spreading environmental awareness and praised the collective civic efforts that earned Vijayawada the Super Swachh League Award in the Swachh Survekshan 2024. In the floor painting competition, G. Tanuja won first prize of Rs 10,000 for her artwork on water conservation, followed by P Yamini Vishala, V Jaswanthi, and M Suresh. In the drawing competition, MS Vaishnavi secured the top spot, with Rahil Jayan, G. Bhashyasri, and Laksh Jain following. Lakshmisha and Dhyan Chandra awarded cash prizes, mementos, and certificates. The event was judged by artists P Chidambareswar Rao, Kalasagar, P Ramesh, and Santosh Kumar. Several dignitaries, including officials from APTDC and AYUSH, were also present.
