Baghdad, Amman push cooperation on economy and environment
Shafaq News/ Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid met, on Sunday, with Jordan's King Abdullah II in Nice, France, to advance bilateral ties and coordinate responses to regional crises, including the war in Gaza.
The meeting, held during the UN's Third Ocean Conference, included Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi and centered on boosting trade, aligning economic policies, and expanding environmental cooperation—especially in water conservation and biodiversity. Rashid urged joint efforts on climate goals and sustainable development.

The leaders also discussed regional stability and reaffirmed support for Palestinian statehood, calling for urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza. King Abdullah backed stronger Iraq-Jordan cooperation, urging implementation of resolutions from the recent Arab League summit in Baghdad.

Israeli army reports intercepted Yemen missile over Negev
Shafaq News – Middle East On Saturday, Israel's military reported that a missile was launched from Yemen toward southern Israel, prompting air raid sirens in Be'er Sheva, the Dead Sea, and several areas across the Negev region. Air defense systems were activated in response. The military confirmed that interception efforts were initiated and that the projectile may have been ''successfully brought down.'' An explosion was also heard near Arad, east of Be'er Sheva, according to Israeli public radio. No group immediately claimed responsibility. Though spared direct bombardment, Baghdad stood on edge as the skies above filled with aircraft and missiles, and local armed groups inside Iraq threatened to ignite a wider inferno. The specter of full-scale war loomed large, stirring alarm among Iraqi officials already grappling with the limits of their influence, according to The National newspaper. Iraq's strategic location once again made it a geopolitical fault line, as Iran-aligned armed groups based in Iraq raised the stakes by threatening to launch retaliatory operations. However, analysts suggest the ceasefire may mark a turning point for Iran's regional posture. Ihsan Al Shammari, head of the Iraqi Political Thinking Centre, told the National that the war has compelled Tehran to scale back its ambitions and rethink its strategy amid sustained pressure from the Trump administration.
