Kim Cattrall reveals she turned down ‘Sex and the City' 4 times — for a surprising reason
Kim Cattrall, 68, who starred as Samantha Jones in 'Sex and the City,' told The Times of London in a profile published Thursday that she originally turned down the role four times because of 'self inflicted ageism.'
At the time, she was 41 and didn't think audiences would find a woman that age sexy, she explained.

'Well, that changed — 40 became sexy. It became, 'Man, let's have more of that,'' she quipped.

Cattrall played the brash publicist Samantha Jones from 1998 to 2004, and reprised the role for spinoff films in 2008 and 2010.
The original show followed Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), and her friends Samantha, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) through dating adventures in New York City.
'She wasn't a nymphomaniac — well, some people might have thought she was — but she was just enjoying the main course,' Cattrall said about Samantha.

'Everyone else was nibbling on the appetisers when she was going for the steak. And it was always on her terms — that I always insisted on.'
She added, 'But, I'm the antithesis of her [Samantha] in many ways. I'm a serial monogamist, and then some.'
Cattrall notably isn't in the spinoff show 'And Just Like That,' which is now in Season 3 on Max, following Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte in their 50s, sans Samantha.
Her absence from the spinoff comes amid behind-the-scenes cast feud rumors, which SJP has denied – but Cattrall did make a brief cameo in 'And Just Like That' Season 2.

In the years following 'Sex and the City,' Cattrall hit the UK stage, in plays such as a revival of Noël Coward's 'Private Lives' in the West End of London with 'Succession' star Matthew Macfadyen.
'One of the things that was so attractive about coming to work in the UK was that they saw an actor. In America, they saw her,' Cattrall said, referring to Samantha.
'And in America I was perceived as a woman of a certain age, whereas in England I was perceived [simply] as a woman.'

As she now gets closer to 70, Cattrall said, 'I'm in this sort of category now of the wise older woman. Which makes me laugh because nobody knows anything.'

Cattrall is currently in a relationship with Russell Thomas, 54, who was an actor working for the BBC when they met.
'He's had an incredibly interesting life and really done it on his terms. He's a bit of a rebel, which I love,' she said, adding that the couple has been together for nearly ten years and 'we've had a blast.'

After Cattrall suffered hard times – such as her brother Christopher dying by suicide in 2018 at age 55 – she said, 'I keep saying I wish I hadn't gone through all that. And then I thought to myself, well, if I hadn't have gone through that, I wouldn't have met Russ. So life has surprises and trade-offs. It was a bad time, but I learned a tremendous amount. And at the other end of it was this incredible, fun playmate.'

Despite her rumored bad blood with Parker and her fellow former 'Sex and the City' cast mates, Cattrall said that she's fine with the show being her legacy.
'I created a fantastic character that I loved, and I put a lot of love in it,' she told The Times of London. 'If I'm remembered only for that, then that's really OK.'

Sean "Diddy" Combs' Ex Virginia Huynh Submits Letter Supporting Bail
Originally appeared on E! Online Sean 'Diddy' Combs' ex is weighing in on his prison stay. The rap mogul's former girlfriend, Virginia "Gina" Huynh, who identified herself as the previously unnamed 'Victim 3' in his sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial, penned a letter to New York Judge Arun Subramanian supporting Combs' request for bail ahead of his Oct. 3 sentencing. In Huynh's letter—submitted to the courts Aug. 3 and obtained by E! News—she detailed knowing Combs for 'many years in both a personal and professional capacity,' and that she will use her knowledge of him 'a father, a family man and a businessman' to share 'observations about his character and to respectfully request that the Court permit his release on bond while the case proceeds.' While describing her relationship with Combs as 'not always perfect,' she wrote that the rapper 'was willing to acknowledge his mistakes and make better decisions in the future.' More from E! 'By the time our relationship ended, he embodied an energy of love, patience and gentleness that was markedly different from his past behavior. To my knowledge, he has not been violent for many years, and he has been committed to being a father first.' She also pointed to the trial being Combs' first criminal case and that 'throughout the investigation and proceedings he has been cooperative, respectful and compliant.' She added she does not view the 55-year-old—who is dad to seven children—as a danger to either herself 'or the community,' noting, 'He has substantial ties to his family and community, including children who depend on him for emotional and financial support.' She added that she believes Combs would adhere 'to all conditions imposed and will not jeopardize his freedom or the well-being of his family,' and that allowing him to be at home would 'support the healing process for all involved.' E! News has reached out to Combs' legal team as well as reps for Huynh for comment but has not yet heard back. While Huynh was originally supposed to be called as a witness in Combs' trial, in the days before it began the prosecution shared it was having trouble to get in touch with Victim 3 or her attorneys. She ultimately didn't testify. At the conclusion of the seven-week trial, a New York jury found the rapper guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution but acquitted him on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. He could face up to 20 years in prison for the convictions, though his counsel is seeking 21 to 27 months while prosecutors are asking for 51 to 63 months (approximately four to five years), per NBC News. On July 2, Judge Subramanian confirmed Combs would remain behind bars until his October sentencing hearing, though Combs' legal team submitted another request for bail on July 29—one opposed by the prosecution. In his July 2 ruling, Subramanian cited Combs' "years-long pattern of violence" as a reason for him to remain behind bars, adding that he "continues to be a danger to others and unable to follow the law." 'Hamilton' producer reflects on 10-year anniversary
Ten years later, history still has its eyes on 'Hamilton.' The beloved musical, created by original star Lin-Manuel Miranda, celebrates a decade on Broadway this week. Producer Jeffrey Seller is reflecting on the show's lasting influence on audiences and the theater world since its groundbreaking premiere. 9 Seller produced Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit musical 'Hamilton.' Getty Images 'I'm feeling so rewarded by 'Hamilton's' impact on people over [the past] 10 years,' Seller, 60, exclusively told The Post. 'The ways in which it has brought so many people joy, … inspiration and illumination. How much it has entertained, but also how much it has educated.' 'Hamilton' officially opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Aug. 6, 2015, following previews that began on July 13. Since then, Seller said it has reached 'well over a quarter of a million Title I high school' students. '[It] not only entertains them, but teaches them American history,' Seller said. 'Not only teaches them American history, but gives them a sense of place — 'Oh, I belong here too. I'm part of the story.'' 9 More than 4.6 million people have seen 'Hamilton' on Broadway. NY Post Brian Zak 9 The original Broadway cast of 'Hamilton' included Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr. and Anthony Ramos. Getty Images According to Broadway World, more than 4.6 million people have seen 'Hamilton' on Broadway — not including those the musical has reached through its filmed version on Disney+, which earned 'Hamilton' an Emmy for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded) in 2021. In June 2020, Forbes reported that the production had surpassed $1 billion in global revenue, making it one of the few to reach the milestone. The achievement helped land Miranda, 45, on the list of the world's highest-paid celebrities, with estimated earnings of $45.5 million that year. 'Hamilton' also dominated the 2016 Tony Awards, winning 11 out of its record-setting 16 nominations, including best musical and best original score. 9 Seller described 'Hamilton' as a 'strike of lightning.' Kevin Mazur The original Broadway cast included Miranda, who also wrote the show's book and score, as Alexander Hamilton; Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr; and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton. This fall, Odom, 43, is set to reprise his role for the first time since departing the production in 2016. According to ticket-selling platforms like Broadway Direct and TodayTix, Odom's entire run — from Sept. 9 to Nov. 26 — is completely sold out. Before tickets were snagged, prices ranged from $205 to $624, not including fees. Miranda, for his part, is also known for creating and starring in 2008's 'In the Heights,' another Broadway hit produced by Seller that also earned Tonys for best musical and best original score. 9 'Hamilton' began as a concept album about the life of Treasure Secretary Alexander Hamilton. AP 9 'Hamilton' premiered off-Broadway at The Public Theater on Feb. 17, 2015. Getty Images Reflecting on 'Hamilton's' early days, Seller said it felt like 'if 'In the Heights' was this warm embrace, 'Hamilton' was this strike of lighting.'' 'It was absolutely Lin, but it was also another leap forward for him creatively,' Seller explained. 'I remember I was just so blown away by the first three songs: 'Alexander Hamilton,' 'My Shot' and, maybe, Washington's first song ('Right Hand Man').' 'I just said, 'What do you want to do?'' he continued. 'At first, he wanted to make an album. I said, 'So we'll help you make an album… I'm here to serve.'' 9 'Hamilton' won best musical and best original score at the 2016 Tony Awards. Bloomberg via Getty Images 9 'Hamilton' canceled its 2026 run at the Kennedy Center. In fact, in 2009, Miranda introduced 'Hamilton' as a concept album during an appearance at the White House for an evening of poetry, music and the spoken word under the Obama administration. 'I'm thrilled the White House called me tonight because I'm actually working on a hip-hop album,' he said at the time. 'It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop, Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton.' Miranda then performed an early version of what would become 'Hamilton's' opening number, aptly titled 'Alexander Hamilton.' 9 Lin-Manuel Miranda's final performance as Alexander Hamilton in 2016. Getty Images Before transferring to Broadway, the off-Broadway production of 'Hamilton' premiered at The Public Theater on Feb. 17, 2015. Despite its success over the past 10 years, Seller said he thinks it's still too early to know what the show's legacy will be. ''Legacy' is a hard word because we don't know,' he explained. 'I think we're still too close to see what its legacy is.' In addition to 'Hamilton,' Seller's other producing credits include 'Rent,' 'Avenue Q,' the 2009 revival of 'West Side Story' and, most recently, the 2023 revival of 'Sweeney Todd.' He chronicled his journey from growing up in Detroit to becoming an award-winning producer in his book, 'Theater Kid: A Broadway Memoir,' published on May 6. Meanwhile, 'Hamilton' continues its reach beyond Broadway with multiple North American tours, as well as productions in London's West End, Australia, the UK and Ireland.
