US-Russia ties: Kremlin says 'quick results' to improve relations unlikely; talks set to continue

The Kremlin on Wednesday said that efforts to improve Russia-US relations are unlikely to yield 'quick results', despite a series of calls between presidents
Donald Trump
and
Vladimir Putin
.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters, "There are many obstacles in bilateral relations, and it is unlikely that we can hope for any quick results."
Apart from phone calls, Putin has met with Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff several times in Moscow, and top diplomats have held talks in Saudi Arabia. Lower-level delegations have also held talks in Istanbul to discuss enhancing the operations of their respective embassies.
Talks are set to continue in Moscow and Washington, said Russia's ambassador to the US, as reported by the news agency TASS.
Trump has unsettled Europe by seeking closer ties with Moscow, a sharp shift from Washington's effort to isolate Putin for the past three years.
Meanwhile, US secretary of defence Pete Hegseth has stated before a congressional subcommittee that the US is set to reduce its military aid to Ukraine. Trump has voiced his inclination to bring an end to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and has urged the warring countries to strike a peace deal.
In the latest offensive, Russian strikes have killed three people and wounded 60 others in Ukraine's northeastern city of Kharkiv. Russia has rejected calls for an unconditional ceasefire and has insisted that Ukraine surrender large areas of territory and forego its efforts to join Nato.

Netizens react to Trump's Iran bombings; calls for Barron Trump to enlist in US army after Iran strikes

As US bombed three Iranian soil last week amidst Israel-Iran conflict, different kind of battle is being waged online and it's squarely aimed at one unexpected figure: Barron Trump. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The 19-year-old son of President Donald J. Trump, who just wrapped up his freshman year at NYU, has found himself at the center of a growing social media firestorm where netizens reacts to Trumps Iran bombings with the growing demand of enlisting Barron trump in the US army. 'If You Want War, Send Your Own Kid' On X (formerly Twitter), many have echoed a common refrain: if President Trump is prepared to send other people's children into harm's way, shouldn't his own son be first in line? "Trump has us at war. Barron should sign up for the Army now", reacted one user. Another commented, "POTUS should order his son Barron to immediately enlist into US Army and be sent to fight Iran. Bravo' "And with the first pick of the 2025 US Draft, the US Army Selects…Barron Trump out of Mar-a-Lago" A political hot potato in combat boots There is no legal requirement for the children of US presidents to serve in the military, and Barron Trump, by all public accounts, has maintained a low profile since his father returned to office. The renewed scrutiny stems not solely from Barron Trump's personal choices, but from a broader debate over political accountability and military service. President Donald Trump, now serving his second term, avoided the Vietnam War draft five times, once citing bone spurs. No member of the Trump family has served in the armed forces. As the administration faces questions about the legality and consequences of the strikes on Iran, online discourse has increasingly invoked what critics label 'Chickenhawk Syndrome' — a term referring to political leaders who support military action without having direct personal or familial involvement in combat.

Elon Musk renews criticism of Trumps big bill as it faces key Senate vote

Washington, Elon Musk on Saturday doubled down on his distaste for US President Donald Trump's sprawling tax and spending cuts bill, arguing the legislation that Republican senators are scrambling to pass would kill jobs and bog down burgeoning industries. 'The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country,' Musk wrote on X on Saturday as the Senate was scheduled to call a vote to open debate on the nearly 1,000-page bill. 'It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.' The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, whose birthday is also Saturday, later posted that the bill would be 'political suicide for the Republican Party". The criticisms reopen a recent fiery conflict between the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency and the administration he recently left. They also represent yet another headache for Republican Senate leaders who have spent the weekend working overtime to get the legislation through their chamber so it can pass by Trump's Fourth of July deadline. Musk previously made his opinions about Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' clear. Days after he left the federal government last month with a laudatory celebration in the Oval Office, he blasted the bill as 'pork-filled' and a 'disgusting abomination". 'Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,' he wrote on X earlier this month. In another post, the wealthy GOP donor who recently forecasted that he'd step back from political donations threatened to fire lawmakers who 'betrayed the American people". When Trump clapped back to say he was disappointed with Musk, back-and-forth fighting erupted and quickly escalated. Musk suggested without evidence that Trump, who spent the first part of the year as one of his closest allies, was mentioned in files related to sex abuser Jeffrey Epstein. Musk ultimately tried to make nice with the administration, saying he regretted some of his posts that 'went too far". Trump responded in kind in an interview with The New York Post, saying, 'Things like that happen. I don't blame him for anything.' It's unclear how Musk's latest broadsides will influence the fragile peace he and the president had enjoyed in recent weeks. The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Musk has spent recent weeks focused on his businesses, and his political influence has waned since he left the administration. Still, the wealthy businessman poured hundreds of millions of dollars into Trump's campaign in 2024, demonstrating the impact his money can have if he's passionate enough about an issue or candidate to restart his political spending. Never Heard Of This...: Trump Rejects Reports Of US Considering USD 30 Billion Deal With Iran

US President Donald Trump dismissed reports suggesting his administration is considering a USD 30 billion deal with Iran to develop civilian nuclear facilities. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Who in the Fake News Media is the SleazeBag saying that "President Trump wants to give Iran $30 Billion to build non-military Nuclear facilities." Never heard of this ridiculous idea. It's just another HOAX put out by the Fake News in order to demean. These people are SICK!!!" US President Donald Trump on Friday (US local time) reiterated how the nuclear sites in Iran were "obliterated" and said that Iran has to come back to the world order flow, or else things could get worse for the country. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, "Why would the so-called 'Supreme Leader,' Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war-torn Country of Iran, say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the War with Israel, when he knows his statement is a lie? It is not so. As a man of great faith, he is not supposed to lie. His Country was decimated, his three evil Nuclear Sites were OBLITERATED, and I knew EXACTLY where he was sheltered, and would not let Israel, or the U.S. Armed Forces, by far the Greatest and Most Powerful in the World, terminate his life." "I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH, and he does not have to say, "THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!" In fact, in the final act of the War, I demanded that Israel bring back a very large group of planes, which were heading directly to Tehran, looking for a big day, perhaps the final knockout! Tremendous damage would have ensued, and many Iranians would have been killed. It was going to be the biggest attack of the War, by far," he added. Trump further claimed that he had convinced Israel to bring back its large pool of fighter jets, which were heading toward Tehran. Trump's remarks come on the backdrop of Operation Midnight Hammer carried out by the US on three nuclear sites of Iran- Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
