HYDERABAD
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to hold constituency-level meetings for key workers this week as part of preparing the party for the forthcoming local bodies' elections. Working president K.T. Rama Rao said the meetings are aimed at exposing the betrayal of the Congress government over the last 20 months.
Asking the party leaders to focus on the Congress government's failures, including betrayals against farmers and other sections of the society, he said the meetings must discuss collapse of governance due to the incompetence of the Revanth Reddy-led government.
He told the party ranks to prepare for local bodies' elections, likely to be held soon in the light of court orders, rigorously. He tasked the district presidents of the party with coordinating the meetings in every constituency. The meetings would see participation of the party sitting and former MLAs, MLCs, MPs, ZP Chairpersons, former corporation chairpersons, and senior State committee members.
He wanted the meeting to highlight the government's neglect of farmers, including the non-implementation of the Rythu Bandhu/Bharosa scheme and its failure to address shortage of urea and seed. He criticized the government's inaction on irrigation and power supply issues, affecting farmers over the past 20 months.
Asking the party ranks to educate/inform people about the Congress government's lack of sincerity in implementing the promised 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) and its deceptive attempts to push it with the help of an ordinance and also on the promise to enhance social security pension amount to various categories of beneficiaries.
He also told party workers to remind people about the BRS' sustained public agitations and protests on the unkept promises over the past 20 months.

Polls being 'stolen'; will bring out 'vote theft' in black and white with Karnataka example: Rahul

Amid the raging row over revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) alleged that elections are being "stolen" in India and claimed that his party has figured out the modus operandi of the "vote theft" by studying a Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka. Mr. Gandhi said he would put before the people and the Election Commission in black in white on how the "theft of votes" is being done. His remarks came after it emerged that during house-to-house visits in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Bihar, poll officials have so far found that more than 52 lakh voters were not present at their addresses, and another 18 lakh have died. "It is not just about 52 lakhs. It is not just about Bihar, they cheated in Maharashtra. We have asked questions of the Election Commission, asked them to show us the voters list, but they did not show us the voters list. We asked for videography, they changed the law. One crore new voters had come in Maharashtra, and the election was stolen," Mr. Gandhi told reporters in Parliament House complex. 'In Karnataka, we have found out 'bhayankar chori' (massive theft). I will show it in black and white to you and the Election Commission. I will show in black and white how the 'chori' is done and from where. We have it in black and white in Karnataka,' the former Congress president said. Problem is that they give a voters list on paper and paper list cannot be analysed. We took the full voters list of one constituency, we put it on digital format, it took six months but we have uncovered their whole system, how they do it, who votes and from where new voters are brought," Mr. Gandhi said. He said the Election Commission has understood this and has brought in a new system in Bihar which is that to delete voters. "In India elections are being stolen that is the reality of India," Mr. Gandhi alleged. Sharing a video of his remarks on X, Mr. Gandhi said, "We showed everyone how match-fixing happened in Maharashtra. We investigated one Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka - large-scale votes theft was found, we will soon bring it before the public." In Bihar, votes of SC, ST, OBC, and minority brothers and sisters are being stolen in the name of SIR , he claimed. "We will not sit quietly. The INDIA bloc will fight the battle for people's rights from Parliament to the streets," Mr. Gandhi said. The Opposition has been protesting in both houses of Parliament against the SIR, alleging that the EC's exercise was aimed at disenfranchising voters in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections.

'Threatened with impeachment': TMC says Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned under NDA government pressure; claims Rajnath Singh to be next VP

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee (Image credits: PTI) NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee on Wednesday claimed that former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced to resign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior cabinet ministers. He further alleged that Dhankhar was 'threatened' with an impeachment motion if he did not step down. The TMC leader also said that Union defence minister Rajnath Singh "would be made" the next Vice President of India. "Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced to resign by the Prime Minister and other Cabinet ministers. He was threatened that if he didn't resign before 9 pm on that day, an impeachment motion would be brought against him. This is a pressure tactic by the PM and other Cabinet ministers,' he said as quoted by ANI. 'Earlier, one Election Commissioner resigned just before the elections... It is being heard that now Rajnath Singh will be made vice president," Banerjee added. Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation was announced on Monday evening, coinciding with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament . Dhankhar, in his official resignation letter, cited health concerns as the reason for stepping down. "To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution," he wrote. Following the resignation, several political leaders questioned its timing and the official explanation, calling the move suspicious. The Congress described the abrupt exit as a 'forced resignation.' Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, as reported by ANI, "The government should answer why he resigned. I can see 'dal mein kuch kaala hai.' His health is fine. He used to defend RSS and BJP always. Who and what is behind his resignation should be known to the country." Deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, also commented on the issue, alleging that PM Modi's remark on Dhankar's exit indicated the decision was political in nature.
