News184 days ago
Siddharth, a close aide of CM Nitish Kumar, led key education reforms like model schools, teacher training, and an online grievance system during his tenure as Principal Secretary
Dr S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Bihar Education Department, has refuted reports claiming he has applied for voluntary retirement (VRS). The senior bureaucrat dismissed the speculation as baseless, after several media outlets and social media posts suggested he had sought VRS citing personal reasons.
According to the circulated news, it was reported that Siddharth might contest in the upcoming assembly elections after securing a ticket from the Janata Dal United (JDU). The 1991 batch IAS officer from Tamil Nadu currently holds multiple significant positions, including ACS of the Education Department, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Director of the Aviation Directorate, and Director of LN Mishra Institute.
There were reports that Siddharth might contest the Bihar assembly elections from a reserved seat in Nawada or Gaya district on a JDU ticket. This potential political move has intensified discussions about the Nitish government's strategy to appeal to the OBC and Dalit vote bank by introducing Siddharth as a new political figure. However, no official statement has been released by the government.

Public Outrage in Gadwal: Protesters Demand Immediate Arrest of Constable Raghunath Goud for Allegedly Cheating Dalit Woman

Gadwal: A wave of protests broke out in Jogulamba Gadwal district headquarters on Thursday, as several civil rights organizations, Dalit associations, and political leaders gathered in front of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue demanding the immediate arrest of Constable Raghunath Goud. He is accused of cheating a Dalit woman named Priyanka from Palwancha town in Khammam district under the pretext of love and marriage. According to protestors, Raghunath Goud, who recently secured a job in the police department, had made false promises to Priyanka, convincing her of his intention to marry her. However, after obtaining his job, he reportedly rejected her citing her caste, referring to her as a 'low-caste SC (Madiga) woman,' and refused to fulfill his promise of marriage. The protesters, visibly outraged, accused the constable of manipulating the woman emotionally and socially, and demanded that a case be immediately registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. They called upon the authorities to arrest Raghunath Goud without delay and ensure justice for the victim. Representatives of Dalit organizations stated that such caste-based discrimination and exploitation should not be tolerated, especially by someone serving in a law enforcement role. They urged the district administration and police department to take strict and swift action against the accused to uphold justice and prevent further erosion of trust in the system. The protest at Ambedkar Chowk drew participation from social activists, leaders of Dalit and caste-based associations, political party representatives, and local citizens, all united in their demand for accountability and justice for Priyanka. The district police have not yet issued an official statement on the matter. However, public pressure continues to mount, and further demonstrations have been warned if the authorities fail to act promptly.

Congress women delegation meets Guv, seeks appointments in state women's commission

Ranchi: Jharkhand Pradesh Mahila Congress's president Gunjan Singh led a delegation to meet governor Santosh Gangwar on Friday to submitted a memorandum urging appointment of the State Women Commission, which is lying defunct since long. They stressed the need for a functional commission to address women's rights and ensure justice. In their memorandum, they highlighted the increase in crimes against women across the nation, citing several horrific incidents from repeated assaults in Delhi, a mass gang rape of a student on a beach in Odisha, to the brutal rape and murder of a Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur, and a recent case in Uttar Pradesh where a minor girl was raped in a moving car and her companion thrown out, resulting in his death. "Every hour, around 45 women face crimes in our country. We cannot afford to remain silent to women safety in Jharkhand too," Singh stated. The memorandum demanded strict action in all cases of rape and harassment, govt accountability for women's safety, and the creation of a strong national policy for the protection of young girls. Calling for immediate and serious attention, Gunjan emphasized that the establishment and activation of the State Women Commission is crucial in addressing the growing crisis and restoring public faith in justice and governance. Meanwhile, the State Commission for Women, a constitutional body meant to protect women's rights, has remained non-functional since June 7, 2020, leading to a backlog of over 4,000 unresolved cases.

Congress has been anti-quota for generations: BJP's Dharmendra Pradhan

NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday rejected Rahul Gandhi 's statement regretting that he could not get the UPA regime to conduct a caste census in its 10 year-tenure at the Centre. "He makes it look like a confession but it actually is a camouflage, because the real problem is Congress leadership's DNA. It started with Nehru ji who got B R Ambedkar defeated twice to ensure the lead author of the Constitution and the inspiration for our Dalits did not enter Parliament. Indira Gandhi hounded another great Dalit leader, Jagjivan Ram out of the party and Sonia Gandhi humiliated Sitaram Kesri. Rahul's crocodile tears cannot obscure these facts," said Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan. "Successive generations of Congress leadership have been against reservation. Nehru ji wrote to CMs to make the false claim that quotas hurt efficiency and Rahul Gandhi spoke for hours in Lok Sabha to oppose the implementation of the Mandal commission and incited caste riots. As against this, an OBC from BJP, Narendra Modi, has led three consecutive govts at the Centre, to become the longest-serving PM after Nehru ji," Pradhan further said. He also accused Rahul of making false claims about vacant reserved posts for SCs/STs and OBCs in central universities. "Rahul Gandhi has lied once again today... I asked him openly to speak either in Parliament or outside on how many 'not found suitable' categories were converted into general in their tenure and PM Modi's tenure. He also said that posts are lying vacant in central institutions... There has been a record campaign to fill posts which is ongoing. Congress is anti-OBC, SC, ST," said the minister. He and BJP spokesman Sudhanshu Trivedi also took on Congress for its opposition to the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. On a day when the Congress president tore off a document supposed to symbolise EC's SIR, Pradhan said, "This proved they all copy the leadership's negative politics. Rahul had torn off the copy of an ordinance which had been approved by the Cabinet and cleared by the President. Kharge saheb had to show his loyalty by shredding what they called SIR when EC, a constitutional body, is acting as per Constitution and law of the land". Trivedi said Kharge's "protest" reflects their "mindset" of recognising constitutional bodies on the basis "of whether they won elections". He said: "If Indira ji said the recognition of constitutional bodies would be decided on the basis of whether she won elections or not, today Rahul says EC's credibility would be decided on the basis of whether his party won elections or not".
