Bihar Education Department ACS Siddharth Rubbishes VRS Buzz

News185 days ago
Siddharth, a close aide of CM Nitish Kumar, led key education reforms like model schools, teacher training, and an online grievance system during his tenure as Principal Secretary
Dr S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Bihar Education Department, has refuted reports claiming he has applied for voluntary retirement (VRS). The senior bureaucrat dismissed the speculation as baseless, after several media outlets and social media posts suggested he had sought VRS citing personal reasons.
According to the circulated news, it was reported that Siddharth might contest in the upcoming assembly elections after securing a ticket from the Janata Dal United (JDU). The 1991 batch IAS officer from Tamil Nadu currently holds multiple significant positions, including ACS of the Education Department, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Director of the Aviation Directorate, and Director of LN Mishra Institute.
There were reports that Siddharth might contest the Bihar assembly elections from a reserved seat in Nawada or Gaya district on a JDU ticket. This potential political move has intensified discussions about the Nitish government's strategy to appeal to the OBC and Dalit vote bank by introducing Siddharth as a new political figure. However, no official statement has been released by the government.

Over 200 tribal families in KNP limits lack basic amenities: Adivasi Hakkagula Samanvaya Samithi

Adivasi Hakkugala Samanvaya Samiti on Sunday lamented that tribal families residing within the Kudremukh National Park in Belthangady taluk lack basic amenities, including road connectivity and power supply. Shekhar Laila, convener of the samithi's Belthangady taluk unit, raised the issue at the SC/ST grievances redressal meeting convened by the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada District Police here. He said more than 210 tribal Malekudiya families residing in nine villages were deprived of basic amenities in the taluk. Superintendent of Police K. Arun said that he would write to authorities concerned regarding the urgent need for road connectivity and footbridges for the residents. Mr. Laila also raised the issue of 18 Group 'D' staff working on contract basis at the Belthangady taluk hospital receiving salary once in three or four months and not getting even a single day leave in a month. The Superintendent of Police said that he would take up the issue with the District Health Officer. In another instance, seven Koraga families of Atrinje at Sulkeri in Belthangady taluk were deprived of an all-weather connectivity infrastructure, as a bridge was built 21 km away from their habitat. Another participant highlighted the plight of 13 Dalit families residing in Nirde and Ajakala of Balnadu village, Puttur taluk, who continue to lack proper road access to their houses. He said pregnant women, patients, and other residents face immense difficulty. Though the issue was brought to the Deputy Commissioner's notice, no action was taken. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy clarified that any issue concerning SC/ST communities, including harassment or atrocities, may be reported to the nearest police station, which will conduct a preliminary inquiry before transferring the case to the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE). Those who are in distress can directly approach the DCRE, he added.

Delhi University to release 2nd round of UG seat allocation on Monday

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The Delhi University (DU) will announce the second round of undergraduate seat allocations at 5 pm on Monday as it continues with its centralised admission process under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG) for the 2025-26 academic session. The upcoming list is expected to reflect significant internal reshuffling as more than 43,000 candidates have opted for upgrading their seats after the first round of admissions. According to DU officials, the second list will incorporate these preferences alongside new seat vacancies, paving the way for thousands of students to switch colleges or programmes based on merit and availability. The DU had earlier made 93,166 seat allocations against 71,624 undergraduate seats across 69 colleges and 79 programmes. As of now, 62,565 candidates have confirmed their admission. While 16,126 candidates have chosen to freeze their seats, a large majority – 43,741 — have opted for upgrades. These students are now waiting for the second round, hoping for movement to their preferred colleges or programmes. The upgrade and reordering window for the current round will remain open till 4:59 pm on July 25. Candidates can also check the latest list of vacant seats on DU's admission portal. The CSAS-UG process uses CUET-UG scores along with college and programme preferences, category reservations and other eligibility criteria for allocations. Seats have been allotted across multiple categories, including Unreserved, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwBD, Kashmiri Migrants, Sikh Minority, Single Girl Child and Orphan. Meanwhile, performance-based courses, such as Hindustani Music, Karnataka Music, Percussion Music, Physical Education and Fine Arts, will see allocations in the third round. Candidates for these programmes are advised to follow college-specific websites for the trial schedules. The academic session for first-year students is scheduled to commence from August 1. Chirag faces heat from NDA over crime remarks

Patna: A day after criticising the state govt and police over law and order issues, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan continued to draw sharp responses from alliance partners Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and JD(U) on Sunday. Following Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's remark branding Chirag as a politically inexperienced figure, his son and HAM(S) president Santosh Suman launched a scathing attack of his own. However, BJP leader and PHED Minister Neeraj Singh Babloo maintained that while internal criticism is welcome, Chirag remains very much part of the NDA fold. "It has become fashionable nowadays to gain media attention by issuing statements on crime," Suman said. "Where does morality go when criminals are welcomed into parties with pomp and show?" he asked. JD(U) MLA from Parbatta, Sanjeev Kumar, also hit out at Chirag, questioning his political influence in the state. "He doesn't have a single MLA in Bihar. There is no question of him supporting the Nitish Kumar govt," Sanjeev said. "If he had contested the Lok Sabha elections alone, he would have known his real standing. His party won seats only because of votes cast in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name," Kumar added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mini House for 60 sqm for Seniors with Toilet and Bath (Price May Surprise You) Pre Fabricated Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo Despite the criticism, Chirag's LJP(RV) had a clean sweep in the Lok Sabha elections, winning all five seats allotted to the party. Meanwhile, Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav commented on Chirag's growing political alignment with Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor. "Prashant should formally declare Chirag as his CM candidate. If Chirag wins even a few seats in the assembly elections, he will pose problems for JD(U)," he said. Reacting to the HAM(S) leaders' criticism, Jamui MP Arun Bharti, Chirag's brother-in-law, said, "Manjhi may consider himself a prominent Dalit leader, but the people will decide that in the upcoming elections."
