India's mobile phone exports rose 127% to Rs 2 lakh crore in a decade due to the PLI scheme, which attracted Rs 12,390 crore investment and created 1,30,330 direct jobs.
The Indian government's efforts to promote exports and make India a global manufacturing hub appear to be bearing fruit, as India's mobile phone exports surged 127 per cent to reach Rs 2 lakh crore in a decade, the Ministry of State for Electronics and IT informed Parliament on Wednesday.
In a written reply to Lok Sabha, the Union Minster Jitin Prasada said the export of mobile phones jumped 127 per cent from India from Rs 1500 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 2 lakh crore in 2024-25.
Minister said that the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme, which was meant mainly for mobile phone manufacturing, attracted a total investment of Rs 12,390 crore.
'The PLI Scheme for LSEM has already attracted a cumulative investment of INR 12,390 crore, led to a cumulative production of Rs 8,44,752 crore with exports of Rs 4,65,809 crore and generated additional employment of 1,30,330 (direct jobs) till Jun'25," the minister said.
Minister further informed Parliament that the country's mobile import demand decreased by 0.02 per cent in 2024-25, from an outstanding 75 per cent in 2014-15.
'PLI Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing has significantly impacted the mobile manufacturing sector in India particularly in transforming India from a net importer to a net exporter of mobile phones. Bharat is now the second largest mobile manufacturing country in the world," the minister said.
Minister Prasada informed that the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT hardware has so far attracted a total investment of Rs 717.13 crore, resulting in cumulative production worth Rs 12,195.84 crore and the creation of 5,056 direct jobs as of June 2025.
He further stated that India received USD 4,071 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the electronics manufacturing sector over the past five years, starting from FY 2020-21. Of this, USD 2,802 million came from companies benefiting under the Ministry of Electronics and IT's PLI scheme.

Peshawar, Jul 27 (PTI) Unknown gunmen fired at a gathering protesting against counter-terrorism operations in Pakistan's northwestern province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, leaving three dead and many injured, a top official said. A day earlier, a mortar strike claimed the life of a girl in the Zakha Khel area of the Khyber District, sparking the Sunday demonstration, during which locals placed the girl's body in front of the Momand Ghuz security checkpoint. Suhail Afridi, the special assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, said three people died and eight were injured in the firing by terrorists on the demonstrators in the Tirah Valley. Following the incident, the grieving families and residents of the area staged a protest by blocking the Tank-South Waziristan Road, and demanded immediate identification and action against those responsible for the killings. Afridi said, 'Following the girl's death on Saturday, locals staged a protest in front of the Frontier Corps compound today. They had gathered near he gates when shots were fired." 'I spoke to district officials who told me that terrorists belonging to Fitna-al-Khawarij fired at the protesters," he said, using the term designating members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province expressed deep sorrow and regret over the Tirah incident. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced compensation of Rs 10 million for the kin of each deceased and Rs 2.5 million for each injured individual. Lenskart receives shareholder nod to raise ₹2,150 crore via IPO: Report

Lenskart IPO: Peyush Bansal-led Indian eyewear company Lenskart has received the approval of its shareholder to raise ₹ 2,150 crore through a fresh issue of shares, reported MoneyControl, citing people aware of the development. According to news report, the company filed its corporate action development with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs' (MCA) Registrar of Companies (RoC), as per the data accessed by TheKredible. The proposal to raise money via an IPO was reportedly given the green light at the company's annual general meeting on 26 July 2025, said the report, adding, the eyewear company is expected to file its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with the capital markets regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), in the upcoming days. The overall IPO size is expected to be around $1 billion or ₹ 8,500 crore, which includes a secondary offer-for-sale (OFS) component by the existing investors, the report added. Earlier this month, Mint reported that the eyewear company's founder, Peyush Bansal, is looking to buy a 1.5-2% stake in the eyewear retailer worth about $150 million from existing investors ahead of its planned IPO. Peyush is buying small stakes from a bunch of investors. This is being negotiated at around $7-8 billion valuation. Existing investors like TR Capital, Chiratae, Softbank and Kedaara Capital are expected to sell their stake as part of the deal. Over the years, the company has raised $1.08 billion in funding across 19 rounds, including its latest Series I round for $18.2 million on 21 July 2023. It has received investments from various firms, including SoftBank Vision Fund, TPG, and Chiratae Ventures. Kotak Mahindra Capital, Axis Capital, Citi, Morgan Stanley, and Avendus Capital are the company-appointed book-runners for the IPO, which is soon expected to hit Dalal Street. The company was founded in 2010, and since then, it has emerged as one of the biggest players in the Indian eyewear industry. It has 2500 retail outlets across the nation and a presence globally, such as in Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
