CNLU signs pact with UK's Leicester University for LLM programme
The agreement facilitates the admission of CNLU graduates into Leicester's LLM programme.
The MoU was signed by CNLU vice-chancellor Faizan Mustafa and Daniel Greco, global partnerships manager, global operations, Future Students Office at the University of Leicester, according to a statement issued by CNLU on Friday.
"As per the MoU, students from CNLU admitted to the LLM programme will receive a 30% fee concession at the University of Leicester.
Also, CNLU will provide scholarships to support students from economically weaker backgrounds," the statement said.
Highlighting the academic stature of its new partner, the university said, "The Law School at the University of Leicester is ranked 11th in the UK for research and has a strong reputation in mooting. It has won the ESU National Mooting Competition five times, more than any other law school in the UK."

Mustafa expressed optimism that similar partnerships with other international institutions would follow. "We hope to soon establish similar understandings with other foreign universities, paving the way for our graduates to pursue higher studies at leading international institutions," he said.
He also envisioned broader collaboration between the two institutions in the years to come. "I hope that Leicester University and CNLU will eventually offer joint degrees and establish regular faculty and student exchange programmes.
Such collaborations will also encourage joint research initiatives," he added.
Commenting on recent developments in legal education and career preparation, Mustafa said: "With the Supreme Court having reinstated the three-year eligibility rule for Judicial Services examinations, I am now focusing my efforts on opening new avenues for our students. Higher education abroad is one such opportunity. Another major initiative will be the establishment of a Civil Services Academy at CNLU, offering personalised coaching.
I want our students, especially those from humble backgrounds, to be able to enter the civil services immediately after graduation as they cannot afford to wait three more years."

Traffic Chaos at Cotton Market Sq To Persist For At Least Four Months

For the last three months, the area has been witnessing traffic snarls because of the simultaneous infrastructure projects, leaving commuters frustrated. The Railways shut down the crucial underpass that connects Sitabuldi to Cotton Market for the extension of the fifth and sixth railway lines since the end of April. Simultaneously, MahaMetro barricaded large portions of the main square and installed temporary pillars as part of its ongoing Skywalk construction. These simultaneous projects have created a major bottleneck, forcing motorists to take long detours and worsening congestion in the area. With the underpass closed, motorists traveling from Gandhi Sagar towards Sitabuldi currently have to use the other underpass near Anand Talkies. However, at the entrance of this stretch, MahaMetro erected a temporary platform, which is affecting traffic movement. The authorities should not have given permission for simultaneous works," said Vishrut Kale, a regular commuter. In charge of the Cotton Market traffic zone, Pramod Pore said that the underpass is likely to remain closed for more than four to five months. "We gave permission to railways for six months. Currently, three months are completed, but the work could take another four to five months as they are laying the fifth and sixth railway lines. Similarly, MahaMetro's work will take at least three to four months to complete," said Pore, adding that they are regularly deploying traffic cops at the spot during peak hours to regulate traffic. MU plans to implement digital evaluation
Mangaluru: Mangalore University (MU) is considering implementing digital evaluation from the next semester. The recently held syndicate meeting gave a green signal for MU to proceed with the new plan and adopt it if there is adequate space, finance, and manpower available. The four-decade-old university has proposed to procure technology with the help of VTU, Belagavi. The new technology would not only save time but also a substantial amount of money for the cash-strapped university. According to officials, the evaluation cost would decrease by nearly 50%. Providing details, Judith Mendonca, syndicate member of MU, told TOI that currently, the varsity is conducting manual evaluations. The adoption of digital evaluation will reduce the time of evaluation and the number of evaluators. "The technology will save time and money for MU, besides providing results at the earliest. Currently, for each semester examination evaluation, MU spends about Rs 40 lakh, and the cost post-adoption of digital evaluation will be reduced by half. Therefore, they will start with PG courses. Before this, a delegation of officials will visit various institutions across Karnataka that have adopted digital evaluation. "We will educate ourselves on how it is done and what arrangements need to be made," said Devendrappa. He said that the adoption of digital evaluation needs to be integrated with UUCMS. "The one-time cost for setting up the technology is huge. We are looking at various aspects, including whether MU, which is reeling under a financial crunch, can afford it or would the govt sponsor this.
