March generally is going to leave sports fans in the city spoiled for choice ahead of the annual bacchanal that is the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.
Not that there wasn't plenty happening overnight either, so, here's a look backwards and forwards to start your week.
Holders United out
Fulham will host London rivals Crystal Palace in the FA Cup quarter-finals after knocking out holders Manchester United on penalties. The Cottagers won the shoot-out 4-3 at Old Trafford after Sunday's fifth-round tie had ended 1-1 following extra time.

Championship club Preston, the lowest ranked side left in the competition, will be at home to Aston Villa while Premier League champions Manchester City head to Bournemouth.
Brighton, having beaten Newcastle United 2-1 after extra time at St James' Park on Sunday, will take on either Nottingham Forest or Ipswich, who play on Monday night.
Happily for the pubs and clubs of Wan Chai and Lan Kwai Fong, the quarter-final ties will take place across the final weekend of March, just in case anyone attending the Sevens needs an excuse to stay out later.
Matches made in heaven
Snooker fans in Hong Kong are not going to know what to do with themselves this week – kids in a candy store does not even cover it.

O'Sullivan hopes to be on cue to repeat Shanghai wins
O'Sullivan hopes to be on cue to repeat Shanghai wins Ronnie O'Sullivan will be competing at the Shanghai Snooker Masters that will run from July 28 to August 3. Photo: RTHK Snooker legend Ronnie "The Rocket" O'Sullivan said on Wednesday that unwavering dedication and discipline are required to succeed at the highest level as he prepares for a major tournament in Shanghai next week. The Shanghai Snooker Masters will run from July 28 to August 3. O'Sullivan has clinched four titles at the Masters event – three consecutively between 2017 and 2019 as well as in 2023 – with Judd Trump claiming the most recent title in 2024. "My whole life I've been preparing to be the best I can be, so obviously you have to practice and keep sharp, but I'm ready all the time," O'Sullivan said at an event in Hong Kong. "I work very hard to become the king of snooker, but there's many, many, very, very good players [like] Zhao Xintong, world champion. [He is a] fantastic player. "I like to still be able to compete with these young guys who are very very good. I feel blessed." O'Sullivan also highlighted the privilege of performing for his fans as a key factor in managing pressure, adding that enjoying the game also helps alleviate the demands of top-level competition. Both Trump and O'Sullivan obtained their Hong Kong residency through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme last year.

Manchester City sign record kit deal with Puma
Manchester City sign record kit deal with Puma City's 10-year contract extension with Puma is among the largest kit partnerships in Premier League history. Photo: Reuters Manchester City have signed a blockbuster new kit deal with Puma worth a reported £1 billion over the next 10 years. City's extension of their contract with Puma ranks as the largest kit manufacturing partnership in Premier League history. Having agreed a £65 million per year deal with the German company in 2019, City's new arrangement is believed to be worth a £100 million per year until 2035, according to British media reports. That figure shatters the £90 million per year deal signed by Manchester United with Adidas in 2023. Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are both reported to have kit deals worth in excess of £100 million per year. "We joined forces with Puma with the ambition to challenge ourselves and go beyond the expectations. We have achieved this and more over the last six seasons," City Football Group chief executive Ferran Soriano said. "Puma have seamlessly integrated into our organisation, and we have enjoyed many historic moments together, engaging fans globally," he added. Puma chief executive Arthur Hoeld added: "Puma's partnership with Manchester City has been a great success both on and off the pitch. Trophies, a perfect stage for our performance products and commercial success were exceptional." City's massive deal comes after the club's first season without major silverware since 2016-17. Pep Guardiola's men finished third in the Premier League after winning the title for the previous four seasons. They also suffered a shock FA Cup final defeat against Crystal Palace and crashed out of the recent Club World Cup in the last 16 against Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. (AFP)
