Coyd adds Domingos to England wheelchair RL performance squad
Luis Domingos - a Portugal wheelchair basketball international - has been called into England's wheelchair rugby league national performance squad.Domingos, who plays club rugby for Wheelchair Championship side Castleford Tigers, is one of three uncapped players in a 17-strong squad hoping to win places on an autumn tour of Australia.Hull FC's Josh Edwards and Halifax Panthers' Finlay O'Neill, with Domingos, are among nine players added to the initial list of eight who were selected in May.From that group, head coach Coyd will pick a final squad of 10 to fly to Australia in October for a four-match tour. That tour will culminate in a two-Test series against Australia on 30 October and 2 November, with both matches in Gold Coast. They will warm up with two matches against state sides - New South Wales in Sydney on 24 October and Queensland on the Sunshine Coast on 27 October.Domingos played wheelchair rugby league for Leeds before switching to basketball, then returned to join Castleford, and scored the winning try as they beat North Wales Crusaders to win the Wheelchair Challenge Trophy - for second-tier clubs - in April.Coyd said: "He's a really exciting athlete in his chair and is now keen to test himself in wheelchair rugby league again after representing Portugal in basketball – quite a coup for our programme."O'Neill helped Halifax beat London Roosters in last Saturday's Wheelchair Challenge Cup final - and all three uncapped call-ups made an impact in two recent trials at the University of York. Two more members of Halifax's cup-winning side - Nathan Holmes and captain-coach Wayne Boardman - are among the nine added to Coyd's squad. The other four to join up are Roosters pair Mason Billington and Jason Owen, Edwards's Hull FC team-mate Tristan Norfolk and Sheffield Eagles' Chris Haynes.
England national performance squad: Sebastien Bechara (Catalans Dragons), Mason Billington (London Roosters), Wayne Boardman (Halifax Panthers), Jack Brown (Halifax Panthers), Josh Butler (Leeds Rhinos), Nathan Collins (Leeds Rhinos), Joe Coyd (London Roosters), Luis Domingos (Castleford Tigers), Josh Edwards (Hull FC), Tom Halliwell (Leeds Rhinos), Rob Hawkins (Halifax Panthers), Chris Haynes (Sheffield Eagles), Nathan Holmes (Halifax Panthers), Lewis King (London Roosters), Tristan Norfolk (Hull FC), Finlay O'Neill (Halifax Panthers), Jason Owen (London Roosters).

Benfica v Chelsea: Club World Cup, last 16
Update: Date: 2025-06-28T19:03:04.000Z Title: The teams Content: 1️⃣1️⃣ 𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟!#SLBCFC • #FIFACWC • #TakeItToTheWorld Our XI to face SL Benfica! 👊📋 Update: Date: 2025-06-28T19:00:31.000Z Title: Preamble Content: If history is any guide, we might as well anoint Chelsea the winners of this tie right now and be done with it. The victors obvious. An early night. Let's go to bed. Because not only do Chelsea have a 100-percent record against Benfica, three wins out of three, the most notable of which being this Rafa-infused banger in 2013 … … but there's the ghost of Béla Guttmann to consider as well. Benfica are famously doomed abroad, having denied their two-time winning European Cup manager a pay rise in 1962, forcing him to spit as he stormed out of the exit door: 'Not in a hundred years from now will Benfica ever win a European Cup!' Oh Béla. Oh Benfica. They've played eight major European finals since, one of them being the aforementioned Benitez-flavoured failure, and lost the lot. This isn't a club with the wind behind when it comes to tournaments like this. But then, this is not Europe. So perhaps the Club World Cup is the perfect platform upon which to snap their miserable international run. And their tails will be up after beating Bayern Munich on Tuesday. Only problem is, upwardly mobile Chelsea are still high on life after their Conference League success, so will fancy their chances of making it four from four against the Eagles of Lisbon, one step closer to repeating their success in a tournament they first won just three years ago. Neither team is perfect, so this is set up nicely. Kick-off at the home of the Carolina Panthers is at 9pm UK time, 4pm local. It's on! Keep pounding!

Why this is a golden age for British tennis
W ho better than John McEnroe to provide an objective view of the state of British tennis? Since his Wimbledon debut as an 18-year-old American qualifier in 1977, he has been back for every championships as a player or a pundit. 'I think now no one looks at it like, 'Oh my god, I hope I play a British guy,' ' he says of the mindset of modern players. 'There might be a couple of wild cards that get in now who would be good draws because they're trying to make it. But for the most part, all the British players in the draw now are legit players.' It's not quite time to pin up the Union flag bunting, but there is undoubtedly a sense at the All England Club that this is, dare we say it, something of a golden era for British tennis.
