Forbes02-07-2025
Independence Day is on the horizon, and it's a great time to take advantage of the Hoka 4th of July sale happening across major retailers like REI, Nordstrom Rack and more. While Hoka doesn't have an official 4th of July sale, plenty of popular styles are available at a discounted price. For example, you can grab the Hoka Arahi 7 for 31% off and the Hoka Mafate Speed 4 for 20% off.
During these Hoka 4th of July sales, you can save up to 31% on a pair of the brand's best-selling ... More sneakers or hiking shoes. ILLUSTRATION: FORBES / PHOTOS: RETAILER
Hoka shoes have earned the top spot in many of our shopping guides, including the best walking shoes for men, the best walking shoes for women and the best travel shoes for women. The sneakers, in particular, are lightweight yet supportive and feature maximum cushioning for soft landings—even when you're walking or jogging on uneven terrain. Ahead, we've rounded up the best Hoka 4th of July sales that you can shop now.
This popular trail running sneaker was recently updated with breathable, single-layer mesh and lightweight foam for a more comfortable experience. A rubber cap toe protects against dirt and debris, while the low-profile cushion keeps your feet close to the ground.
If you need a new everyday sneaker, consider the Hoka Arahi 7. It features a streamlined appearance with a plush tongue and a stretchy gusset beneath the lace line, which prevents the tongue from slipping around when you move. Right now, you can save $45 on this style.
These light trail running shoes are a popular choice because of their soft foam midsoles, which provide extra support over bumpy terrain; there are also tightly-spaced rubber grooves along the bottom, offering superior traction. Another helpful feature is the extended heel pull, which makes it easy to get this shoe off. During REI's 4th of July sale, it's currently 20% off.
The Hoka Clifton 9 is a versatile walking and running shoe that provides all-day comfort and maximum cushion. It features Hoka's famous MetaRocker, which is essentially a curved midsole that promotes a smooth gait and helps propel the foot forward. Grab a pair now while it's still discounted and save nearly $30.
If you're searching for an extra-light running shoe, you can't go wrong with the Hoka Mach 6. It's outfitted with a responsive foam midsole, and the insole can be removed if you want to use custom orthotics. During Nordstrom Rack's 4th of July sale, you can score it for $30 less.
Hoka is known for making hiking shoes that feel lighter and more comfortable than traditional boots, and the women's Anacapa 2 Freedom are among its easiest to wear. Just slip them on (no laces needed), and the cushioned midsoles and Vibram Megagrip outsoles keep you steady on any terrain. During REI's 4th Of July sale, they're nearly 20% off.
The Clifton L features supportive cushioning and a lightweight construction that won't weigh you down. Its EVA footbed and neutral last (taken from the popular Clifton 3) offers an effortless walking or jogging experience. This pair is currently 20% off at Nordstrom Rack during the 4th of July.
Tackle the trails in confidence with the Speedboat 6, designed for a smooth ride across varied terrain. It has a protective toe bumper and durable rubber sole to keep you steady on your feet, while the breathable mesh upper ensures optimal airflow. Plus, the Vibram MegaGrip gives you solid traction on both wet and dry surfaces.

Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up REI's new Traverse Modular Bear Canister has three different sections — a bottom chamber, mid-section, and lid — that can be configured in different ways to adjust its volume so it can work for weekend to weeklong adventures. REI Co-op Advertisement A multi-size — and multi-use — bear canister If you're backpacking in a place where bears or other critters may try to infiltrate your food (meaning most wilderness areas), you'll want a bear-proof canister. REI's new Traverse Modular Bear Canister has been certified by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee and offers something no other canisters do: the ability to adjust its volume to suit weekend to weeklong adventures. This modular canister has a bottom chamber, mid-section, and lid. Use all three sections to create a large 11.25-liter container or attach the lid to the bottom chamber and you'll have a smaller 6.75-liter canister. An even bigger bonus: Once your supplies shrink on a longer trip, you can remove the midsection and pack the 6.75-liter container inside of it to save pack space (the adjustable nylon carrying case holds the sections together). The rugged canister, made of hard PVC-free plastic, makes a great seat while camping and its transparent orange coloring lets you see inside. Divots in the lid make it easy to twist while opening/closing. The Traverse Bear Canister isn't fully waterproof, so make sure you pack food inside watertight baggies or the entire canister in a dry bag. $79.95. Helly Hansen A high-tech yet affordable rain jacket For a great summer-weight rain jacket with all the features you need, check out Helly Hansen's new Loke Jacket 2.0. This comfy (not too stiff or crunchy) waterproof shell has pit zips, handwarmer pockets, adjustable Velcro wrists, a drawstring hem, and a spacious hood with an adjustable brim. It's windproof yet breathable so it allows moisture to escape — and prevents you from feeling clammy while hiking and adventuring. Its key feature: a RECCO Reflector, which is built into the hood (and usually found in pricier outdoor gear). This passive safety device, which doesn't require a power source, enables search-and-rescue crew to find you in case of an emergency. The new Loke jacket is made of 100 percent recycled ripstop fabric. It's available in men's (S-3XL), women's (XS-2XL), women's plus (1X-3X), and junior sizes (8-16; junior sizes don't come with RECCO technology). $120. Mountain Equipment Super-light and lofty sleeping bags It's easy to question the warmth of a sleeping bag that weighs so little, but Mountain Equipment's new Xenith bags achieve the perfect blend of featherlight and toasty. The UK-based company — a pioneer of high-alpine gear — has introduced three Xenith bags this year, all with 900-fill goose down; a proprietary PLASMA fabric, meaning super lightweight and breathable with a weatherproof coating; and a mix of horizontal, vertical, and wedge-shaped baffles carefully integrated to maximize warmth. The Xenith 1, rated to 41 degrees (the company's 'good night's sleep guaranteed' temperature), weighs just 12.7 ounces and saves precious weight by shedding the hood and offering a three-quarter zip — ideal for warmer climates. The more-versatile Xenith II, rated to 34 degrees, weighs 17 ounces and has a drawstring hood, a neck collar, and a three-quarter zip. The 19-degree Xenith III weighs 1.5 pounds and has twice the goose fill as the Xenith 1 for extra warmth in high-alpine and colder zones. They're not cheap — $419.95-$679.95 — but they're guaranteed to keep you warm to the rated temp or you can upgrade within 30 days (restrictions apply). The maps show you points of interest such as trailheads, national monuments, and campgrounds, while a weather feature lets you track current conditions — from temperature and wind speed to barometric changes — and upcoming weekly forecasts. New this year, the app provides guidebook-quality info from local experts on 40 regions in seven western states, offering descriptions, route details, and even trail reports. It's also added HD Topo, displaying real-time detail of ridgelines, drainages, and other elevation and terrain features with precision to help with navigating. $34.99-$99.99 annually; free trial available. Sea to Summit's new self-inflating Pursuit camping mattress blends lightweight and luxury feel. The mattress comes in four variations: 'regular' length and width (72-by-22 inches) or 'large' length and width (78-by-25.2 inches) — in both contour or rectangular shapes — so you can choose what suits your size and comfort level. The Pursuit measures 2 inches thick, has an R-value (warmth rating) of 3 — perfect for summer adventures — and comes with horizontal foam-supported air channels that make for a more stable and comfortable mattress (choose the Pursuit Plus, with its 4.2 R-value and 3 inches of thickness, for colder temps or added comfort). The XPEL Multi-Function Valve makes it easy to inflate/deflate the mattress, while the side-loading stuff sack with drawstring cord makes it a cinch to pack. Base weights start at 1.3 pounds for the Pursuit and 1.75 pounds for the Pursuit Plus. $139-$209. Advertisement Big Agnes now makes an XL version of its Copper Spur UL2 tent so you have room for gear storage in wet weather. Big Agnes A top tent that's home on the trail It's nice to have extra wiggle room in your tent — for gear storage in wet weather, to spread out those 25-inch-wide camp mattresses, to fit in a furry trail companion, or to simply have a little distance from your tent-mate (it happens). Big Agnes now makes XL backpacking tents for just that: a little extra elbow room. One of our top picks — the Copper Spur UL2 XL — adds 6 inches of length, 2 inches of width, and 3 inches of height over the regular UL2 so you have some room to stretch or sprawl (it comes in a three-person XL version, too, that adds 8 inches of length, 2 inches of width, and 4 inches of height). The updated Copper Spur has a new HyperBead fabric that's lighter, stronger, and more waterproof than previous years' materials. It sets up quickly and easily with a main (four-way) tent pole and a cross pole, and has color-coded buckles that help with orienting the rainfly. The tent has two large and two small mesh gear pockets inside, and two doors and 9-square-foot vestibules. A top feature: Unzip the two zippers at the head end of the fly and use your upside-down hiking poles and extra guy lines to set up an awning. The tent offers 36 square feet of floor space — and is noticeably roomy for those used to a traditional two-person space — and weighs just 2.8 pounds (minus stuff sacks). $579.95. The Best Outdoor Projectors to Give You Drive-in Level Entertainment

Going to drive-in movie theaters is one of my favorite childhood memories (and I went to our local theater with friends well into high school.) Now that I have an outdoor projector of my own, I can get that romantic, outdoor movie theater experience pretty much wherever I go. While it may be impractical, I often take my outdoor projector camping for late night movie watching. It can be a fun way to wind down with a group of friends, but I also enjoy setting it up and using the inside of my tent as a screen when my husband and I are camping alone. While an outdoor projector can also be used indoors, they are specially designed with high-powered lighting that can be utilized even when it's not pitch black outside. They're also lightweight and can be water- and dust-resistant for added durability. We tested a variety of projectors on camping trips and international vacations to find the best option for all of your outdoor needs. Credit: Amazon $1,050 $800 at Amazon View on REI View on Water-resistant, drop-resistant, and dust-resistant, this durable projector is made to travel wherever you go. With up to five hours of battery life and 1,000 ANSI lumens, it's even strong enough to work in dim daylight (though, like all projectors, it works better the darker it gets.) It has a quick and easy setup: within 10 minutes of opening the box, we already had a movie playing. The picture is sharp and the auto focus worked well. We also love that it has a built-in handle, but you may want to invest in a padded case if you plan to regularly fly with the device. While the sound was loud enough, we didn't have any problems connecting the projector to an additional Bluetooth speaker to give us more of a surround sound experience. It takes just about two hours to fully charge the projector's battery and comes with a backup power cord if you prefer to plug it in for longer viewing. We also appreciated that it has a built-in stand to help you get the right angle for viewing, but do note that it does not come with a tripod, so you may need to invest in your own or plan to stack some other items to optimize your image. As an added bonus, you can charge your phone using the projector. It also has a built-in flashlight to help you get to your campsite. I'm not generally a Samsung user, but it was easy to make a new account in order to log in (and I've never had to use the account since.) It is easy to connect with new Wi-Fi accounts and remembers each one for auto-connection the next time you use it. I love that I can download apps and customize my own home screen to what I use most. While you do have to purchase the battery separately, it's well-worth the investment. It connects to the main projector to become just one item to carry (and pack) and makes the base a little taller. Alone, you can easily watch a full movie on one charge and the battery itself recharges quickly. I've used this projector against indoor and outdoor walls as well as inside of camping tents. The image is always vibrant and crisp. I also appreciate the autofocus and automatic keystone correction, so if I accidentally bump it, it fixes the image without me having to pause. For added convenience, the remote has preset buttons for Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and Samsung TV Plus, and is also compatible with voice command for faster searching. The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser Outdoor Collection is the only projector we've tested that comes with everything you need for the perfect outdoor setup—including the screen. It also comes with ground stakes to stabilize the screen when camping or sitting in the yard. After turning it on for the first time, it took less than five minutes to set up and log in to both Amazon Prime and Netflix (both have shortcut buttons on the remote.) It was easy to connect to Wi-Fi and we never noticed a lag in connection; plus, the image is incredibly crisp. We love that you can use this with or without the stand and that the stand itself is a backup battery that provides an additional 2.5 hours of play. The full set comes in a fairly large and durable case that works well for car trips, but if you want to bring just the projector without all of the accessories, it could easily fit in most travel totes or backpacks (just be sure to pack it with a bit of padding for protection.) The Details: 14.8 x 19.9 x 7.9 inches for full kit | 10.8 pounds for full kit | Up to 5 hours of battery life Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Travel + Leisure Credit: Amazon $799 $550 at Amazon View on Walmart View on If you're looking for a versatile projector that can be used indoors or outdoors and connect to just about any streaming service you could want, this BenQ projector is a great choice. While we do recommend keeping it plugged in for prolonged use, the rechargeable battery pack can last up to 2.5 hours, depending on your settings and usage. It connects quickly to Wi-Fi and also connects to phones via Bluetooth. You can use it as a portable speaker and pair it with other speakers for louder volume and a surround sound effect. We love that it's on the smaller size (especially compared to how powerful it is) and that it comes with its own carrying case that makes traveling with it a breeze. It's also durable, splash-resistant, drop-proof. We used this both indoors and outdoors and appreciated the auto focus and image correction, so your movies and shows aren't warped even if you aren't projecting onto a perfectly flat surface. We were impressed with the image quality in all locations; the picture is crisp and easy to see in pitch black and low light conditions. This Nebula Capsule weighs under two pounds and features a slim pole-like design that is easy to pack and carry. The system itself is intuitive and looks like most television interfaces, so it's easy to navigate. We were impressed by the sharpness, color quality, and brightness of the images, especially when using the projector at night. The connection was great with phone hotspots and Wi-Fi signals alike. We also like that you can download an app on your phone to use it as a remote for the projector if you don't want (or forgot) to pack the physical remote. We weren't able to use this longer than two hours at a time, so we do recommend plugging it in for watching movies. Still, we found it to be quite sturdy considering how lightweight it is and loved it for taking to hotel rooms and camping trips alike.
