Titans' Will Levis to miss entire 2025 season

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will miss the entire 2025 season as he decided to undergo shoulder surgery that will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the year. The Titans made the announcement on Monday with mere days to go before the start of training camp. "After consulting with doctors and his representatives, Will Levis has decided to undergo shoulder surgery that will sideline him for the entire 2025 season," the team said. "We support his decision to focus on his long-term health. "He approached the offseason with professionalism and showed clear growth as a leader. We remain confident in his full recovery." Levis suffered an injury to his right shoulder early last year and re-aggravated it during the 2024 season, ESPN reported. He reportedly has been unable to move past the discomfort he's been dealing with. The Titans selected Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft as Malik Willis failed to live up to expectations and quarterback Ryan Tannehill was on his way out. He played in 21 games between the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He has 3,899 passing yards and 21 touchdown passes, but the Titans were 5-16 in his starts. Tennessee obtained the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft and selected quarterback Cam Ward. It may have been a quarterback competition going into camp, but Ward now appears to be the frontrunner to get the nod for Week 1. Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle are currently the other quarterbacks on the roster. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Titans QB Will Levis to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will undergo surgery on his right shoulder and will miss the entire 2025 season, the team announced Monday. Levis sustained the shoulder injury early last season before re-aggravating it later in the year. On the second drive of a Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins, Levis dove for a first down and initially sustained the injury. He played in Week 6 after a bye week before missing the next three games. Levis then continued to waver in and out of the lineup as a result of the injury. Story: — Tennessee Titans (@Titans) July 21, 2025 The Titans selected Levis with the 33rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he became the starting QB a handful of games into that season. In nearly two seasons as the starter, Levis completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,899 yards and 21 touchdowns against 16 interceptions. This April, Tennessee again took to the draft board for a QB, taking Cam Ward with the No. 1 selection. Though the Titans have not named Ward the starter, he is now poised to be so after Levis' surgery. Veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle are the two other listed quarterbacks on the roster. Tennessee opens the 2025 season at Denver on Sept. 7. Levis' decision to undergo surgery and end his 2025 season before it even began hurts the Titans' depth at quarterback, but it doesn't change much in terms of the outlook of their starting lineup. Tennessee selected Ward out of Miami with the top pick a few months ago and gave him the reps throughout the offseason to prepare him to be the Week 1 starter. The expectation is that Ward will continue into training camp as the team's starter. With Levis sidelined for the season and Mason Rudolph returning to Pittsburgh in free agency, the Titans will be without the two quarterbacks who combined to start every game for them in 2024. Advertisement Levis is expected to return for the 2026 season, which will be the final year of his rookie contract. — Saad Yousuf, NFL staff writer Before Ward arrived in the 2025 draft, the Titans hoped that Levis could become the franchise's next answer at quarterback. He received some starts at the end of the 2023 season as a rookie and got a clean opportunity to be the guy in 2024. Although he flashed potential, the overall body of work made it clear that Levis was not the solution at the position. Levis' time as the starter in Tennessee will probably be best remembered for his interception in the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bears in the season opener last year. The Titans were clinging to a one-point lead midway through the fourth quarter when Levis flipped a pass while falling to the ground under pressure. The Bears intercepted it and returned it for a touchdown, with Levis on his knees with his hands on his helmet mid-play. — Yousuf

Will Levis injury: Season-ending shoulder issue likely pushes Cam Ward into starting role with Titans

The Tennessee Titans will turn things over to Cam Ward in 2025. While that was assumed throughout the offseason, the situation got more clarity Monday after the team announced Will Levis would miss the entire season due to shoulder surgery. The Titans announced the news on X, saying the team was supportive of Levis' decision to have surgery. Levis, 26, started 12 games for the Titans last season, putting up a 2-10 record. He threw for 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Levis reportedly dealt with the injury throughout last season and decided to have surgery after the pain continued to linger, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The move opens the door for Ward to be the team's starter from Day 1. That was expected after the team made Ward the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite that, however, the Titans had not announced Ward as the team's starter prior to Levis' injury. This story will be updated.
