Wimbledon: Ben Shelton is 1 game away from winning when his match is suspended because of darkness
The 10th-seeded Shelton was about to serve for the match while leading 6-2, 7-5, 5-4 when action was halted at No. 2 Court, which does not have a roof or artificial lights.
Shelton, a 22-year-old American, had just held three match points in the previous game, up 5-3 and love-40 as Hijikata served. But the 87th-ranked Australian grabbed the next five points in a row to extend the contest.
Play was stopped at 9:30 p.m. They will resume on Friday.
The left-handed, big-serving Shelton reached the fourth round at the All England Club a year ago. He made it to the semifinals at the 2023 U.S. Open and the 2025 Australian Open.

James out of Chelsea's starting lineup for Club World Cup quarterfinal vs Palmeiras due to injury
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Chelsea captain Reece James was removed from the starting lineup for Friday night's Club World Cup quarterfinal match against Palmeiras due to injury. James was listed on FIFA's squad list as injured on the bench. There was no immediate word on the extent of his injury. Midfielder Andrey Santos took James' place in the Blues' starting lineup. James played in three of the four CWC matches for Chelsea before Friday. MIAMI (AP) — Christian Yelich scored the go-ahead run all the way from first on a double by Jackson Chourio in the eighth inning and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Friday night. Yelich singled leading off the eighth against Cade Gibson (2-4) and Chourio followed with his hit to help the Brewers win for the 10th time in 14 games.
