Orlando Bloom won't be required to testify at ex-fiancée Katy Perry's upcoming trial regarding the $15 million mansion she bought from an elderly Texas millionaire, who later claimed he wasn't in the right state of mind to make such a deal. Los Angeles County Judge Joseph Lipner ruled Friday that 85-year-old Carl Westcott's efforts to put Bloom on the stand served no purpose other than to 'make it a celebrity circus,' Rolling Stone reported. Westcott had sought for the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' alum to testify in the case, claiming he had information that was relevant to arguments over millions of dollar of repairs that Perry said were necessary due to damage done between the years she purchased the property and when she actually took over control. Judge Lipner said it was not necessary for Bloom to be questioned about the repairs, and that Westcott should instead broach the matter with 'the construction person who actually did it.' The legal saga all started in July 2020 when Westcott tried to back out of the sale just days after signing the contract with Perry. He claimed to have been on painkillers and suffering from dementia symptoms that would make him unfit to finalize the deal. At a liability trial in 2023, the judge ultimately ruled that Westcott was perfectly competent at the time he signed the contract. Perry was finally given the keys to the property in April 2024, though she claims extensive repairs due to 'lack of maintenance' over the previous four years — as well as the loss of rental income — set her back nearly $6 million. Perry is seeking to be reimbursed, arguing that Wescott was responsible for handing over the home in the condition it was in when she bought it. Wescott claims Perry never provided final receipts for the repairs that were done, and instead only gave estimates. The 40-year-old Grammy nominee is expected to testify during the bench trial beginning on Aug. 21 to determine how much she's owed in damages. Westcott had said Bloom too should testify because he was present for the spring 2024 home inspections and allegedly said he'd be in charge of handling the repairs on Perry's behalf. The latest development comes nearly a month after Perry's representatives released a joint statement confirming that she'd ended her nine-year, on-and-off relationship with Bloom, to whom she got engaged in 2019. The 'Firework' singer and the 'Lord of the Rings' star share 4-year-old daughter Daisy.

Lynx star Napheesa Collier to undergo testing after injuring ankle vs. Aces
Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier left Saturday's eventual 111-58 victory over the Las Vegas Aces late in the third quarter after suffering a right ankle injury and did not return. Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve did not have an immediate update on Collier's status postgame, saying only that Collier will undergo further imaging and testing. 'I'm excited for the way that our team played, the way that we showed up today, and I'm also obviously concerned about Napheesa Collier,' Reeve said. 'We'll worry. We'll worry until we know more. There's no way around it. I can be both happy for our team and worried. Hoping for the best.' Minnesota's 53-point margin is the second-largest in WNBA history and is the largest margin of victory for a team on the road. The Houston Comets previously set the road margin of victory record (45) in 1998, according to Across the Timeline. Collier's injury occurred with just under 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter as she attempted to bring in an offensive rebound with Minnesota leading by 43 points. Collier was visibly in pain after suffering the injury as she walked off the court toward the locker room with assistance. She did not return to the bench in the fourth quarter, though guard Kayla McBride said that Collier was in 'good spirits' in the locker room afterward. 'The third quarter of a game on someone else's floor, I don't think the game is over,' said Reeve, when asked if she regretted not taking Collier out earlier. 'I don't think like that. She had a sub there, and she wasn't going to play in the fourth quarter. Sometimes these things happen, and I get it, people are gonna rail on me, and that's part of sitting in the seat that I'm sitting in. We did what we think is right, and sometimes these things happen. Unfortunate, and hopefully she'll be okay.' The Aces scored the game's first basket, but trailed throughout the remainder of the game. Collier finished with 18 points and three rebounds in 26 minutes. McBride led Minnesota with 24 points and became the only player in WNBA history to make eight 3s on 100 percent shooting in a half. The Lynx defeated the Aces by 31 points on July 25. On Saturday, in an even more lopsided result, four Minnesota players scored at least 15 points. No Aces player scored more than 12 points. Only Jewell Loyd and A'ja Wilson finished in double-figures as coach Becky Hammon relied on her bench for most of the second half. Collier is averaging 23.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Not only is she the MVP front-runner, but her injury comes as Minnesota continues to widen the gap in league standings between itself and the WNBA's other 12 teams. The Lynx moved to 24-5 with the victory and have a six-game lead on the No. 2 New York Liberty. The Liberty, who are without star forward Breanna Stewart as she deals with a right knee injury, have a half-game lead on the No. 3 Atlanta Dream. Only 1 1/2 games separate New York and the sixth-seeded Seattle Storm. Minnesota travels to Seattle to play the Storm on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The Lynx then play Washington and three consecutive games against the Liberty. 'I thought we put a great 40 minutes together. Obviously, you hate to see anybody go down, but especially your MVP,' McBride said. 'We just wish the best for (Collier). We just want her to be healthy. 'She's had such an amazing season and she's just so impactful for us on both ends of the floor, but more than anything, we just want (Collier), the human being, to be okay.' Rory McIlroy lone omission from FedEx St. Jude commitment list
The field for next week's playoff opener in Memphis will have one fewer competitor than expected. Rory McIlroy will not play. The PGA Tour released Friday the commitment list for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which is reserved for the top 70 players in points following the Wyndham Championship. McIlroy currently ranks second in the FedExCup, so he's mathematically clinched his position in the 30-man Tour Championship, let alone the 50-man BMW Championship. With McIlroy's omission, 69 players will compete at TPC Southwind starting on Thursday. There are no alternates for playoff events. The final few spots will be finalized after the Wyndham, with the expectation of a couple players moving in and out of the top 70. McIlroy finished second-to-last at last year's playoff opener in Memphis, which came after his T-3 the previous season. This will be the fourth notable tournament McIlroy has skipped this season, following signature events The Sentry, RBC Heritage and Memorial Tournament. Despite having not teed it up since The Open and logging just 14 starts this season, McIlroy is set to collect $10 million on Sunday evening, $6 million via the Comcast Business Tour Top 10 and another $4 million from the restructured FedExCup bonus payout.
