Despite rain, Lima'25 concludes with 450,000 turnout for defence and aerospace expo

'Even though the atmosphere is uncertain, with the rain like today, we still saw many people rushing into the exhibition hall to witness the technological developments being showcased.
'This year saw the participation of 860 exhibitors, a figure higher compared to Lima'23, consisting of 50 per cent local exhibitors and 50 per cent international exhibitors, a very commendable achievement,' he said in his closing speech at Lima'25 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) here today.
Over the course of five days, Mohamed Khaled said Lima'25 also recorded 1,400 business-to-business (B2B) meetings and 920 business-to-government (B2G) sessions.
Therefore, he said, all these achievements provide a positive outlook on the development and future of the country's defence industry, thus becoming the nation's hope and reliance to reduce the country's dependence on external parties.

Apart from the commercial aspects and business transactions, the defence minister said Lima'25 also expanded its vibrancy and excellence by recording an increase in the number of static asset exhibitions compared to previous editions.
In fact, for the first time, Lima'25 featured a high immersive experience dome, known as the A.T.M.O.S Sphere, which stands for Aerospace, Technology, Maritime, and Operations for Sustainability.
'This is a glimpse of how many more things we do not know in this world... and if we want to become a successful nation, we must have the value of always learning and uncovering things that are still unknown to us,' he added.
A.T.M.O.S Sphere is a high-tech exhibition that uses 360-degree technology and audiovisual immersion to reflect Malaysia's aspirations to lead advancements in land, sea, air and beyond.

Lima'25 is organised by the Defence Ministry, in collaboration with Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC), and emphasises innovation and enhancing competitiveness among industry players in line with current technological developments.

Malaysia enhancing cooperation with Thailand for trade, says Liew
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is enhancing strategic cooperation with the Thai government to facilitate smoother movement of goods through northern border checkpoints, says Liew Chin Tong. The Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said the collaboration aims to support industries such as Kedah Rubber City (KRC), which require efficient logistics to meet export demands. 'MITI remains committed to strengthening strategic cooperation with the Thai government to facilitate the movement of goods across border checkpoints, including through the Durian Burung entry point,' he told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (July 28). Responding to a question from Nurul Amin Hamid (Perikatan–Padang Terap), Liew said the initiative involves close coordination with various ministries and agencies, including the Finance and Home Ministries, Immigration Department, Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKSEM), and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA). However, Liew said infrastructure at the ICQS Durian Burung Complex remains insufficient to support large-scale trade, particularly for container-based operations. To address this, he said the NCIA is spearheading several initiatives, including a feasibility study for a proposed Border Economic Zone to explore economic potential in the Durian Burung area and surrounding regions. He said other efforts include cooperation under the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and the Joint Development Strategy (JDS), which focus on sectors such as halal, logistics, rubber, and tourism. 'The JDS specifically aims to enhance connectivity and trade policy coordination, which in turn strengthens the synergy between both countries,' he said. Liew added that both sides had agreed to improve trade facilitation, including infrastructure upgrades, logistics systems, and streamlined procedures at key border crossings. 'These measures are expected to expedite customs clearance and reduce costs and turnaround time for cross-border goods movement,' he said. While acknowledging proposals to utilise Thailand's Songkhla Port as an alternative export route, Liew said the government is prioritising domestic ports such as Penang and Kuala Perlis. 'This aligns with our broader strategy to enhance the competitiveness of local ports and ensure the economic benefits reach local communities and industry players,' he said. He added that his ministry is open to studying proposals and making recommendations to the Finance Ministry to introduce incentives that would encourage higher usage of local ports by investors, particularly those setting up export-oriented manufacturing facilities.

Malaysia's producer prices drop 4.2pc in June 2025, dragged down by mining and manufacturing
KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — Malaysia's Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures price changes at the producer level, went down further by 4.2 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in June 2025, after a 3.6 per cent decline in the previous month, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) today. Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said all sectors registered y-o-y declines last month, with the mining and manufacturing sectors emerging as the primary contributors to the index's overall negative trend. The mining sector fell by 8.0 per cent after a 15 per cent contraction in May 2025, affected by the extraction of natural gas (-12.0 per cent) and extraction of crude petroleum (-6.7 per cent) indices. At the same time, the manufacturing sector dropped by 4.3 per cent (May 2025: -3.0 per cent), contributed by significant downturns in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-17.7 per cent) and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (-7.8 per cent) indices, he said in a statement today. The agriculture, forestry and fishing sector also recorded a slight decrease of 0.3 per cent against 1.8 per cent in May 2025, with the animal production index declining by 2.9 per cent. For the utility sector, both electricity and gas supply and water supply posted marginal decreases of 0.2 per cent last month. On a month-on-month basis, the PPI for local production recorded a decline of 0.7 per cent in June 2025, following a 1.1 per cent decrease in the previous month, Mohd Uzir said. 'The manufacturing sector went down by 1.2 per cent (May 2025: -0.5 per cent) due to the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-4.2 per cent) and manufacture of food products (-3.0 per cent) indices,' he said. Similarly, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector declined by 1.0 per cent (May 2025: -5.4 per cent), weighed down by declines in the growing of perennial crops (-1.2 per cent) and animal production (-0.8 per cent) indices. In contrast, the mining sector rose by 4.6 per cent, rebounding from a 2.3 per cent contraction in May 2025, mainly driven by the extraction of crude petroleum, which rose by 7.0 per cent. Meanwhile, the water supply index edged up by 0.2 per cent, while the electricity and gas supply index decreased by 0.2 per cent in June 2025. The PPI for local production declined by 3.7 per cent in the second quarter of 2025 compared to a 0.3 per cent decrease in the first quarter of 2025. The mining sector fell by 13.7 per cent, followed by the manufacturing (-3.4 per cent) and electricity and gas supply (-0.6 per cent) sectors. However, the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector increased by 1.4 per cent and water supply inched up 0.2 per cent. Meanwhile, on a quarter-on-quarter basis, the PPI registered a decline of 2.3 per cent, in contrast to the 1.0 per cent increase recorded in the previous quarter, primarily driven by contractions in the agriculture, forestry and fishing, mining, and manufacturing sectors. — Bernama
