Hong Kong China qualifies for the Rugby World Cup for the first time
Hong Kong China is only the second Asian nation after Japan to reach the World Cup in tournament history.
It booked a spot in the 2027 tournament in Australia, expanded to 24 teams for the first time.
'It is pretty overwhelming, and I am super proud of our group, our management and coaches and everyone involved,' captain John Hrstich said.
Hong Kong China just missed out on the 2019 and 2023 World Cups after reaching the final qualifying tournaments.
On Saturday, Hong Kong China was too good for South Korea even through a 20-minute red card to center Ben Axten-Burrett just before halftime for head-on-head contact.
It also swept aside Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates to win the Asia Championship for a sixth straight time.

Wimbledon: Jannik Sinner has dropped a record-tying 17 games through three matches so far
LONDON (AP) — As well as Jannik Sinner is playing at Wimbledon, he doesn't appear to need much in the way of help. Still, he got some Saturday when his opponent, Pedro Martinez, was dealing with a problematic shoulder and often put in first serves at so-so speeds. The No. 1-ranked Sinner has dropped a record-tying total of only 17 games so far, made his way to the fourth round for the seventh consecutive Grand Slam tournament — he's collected three such trophies in that span — and never was truly in trouble during a 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 victory over No. 52 Martinez.

Brazil striker Igor Jesus joins Nottingham Forest after starring at Club World Cup
NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — Brazil striker Igor Jesus, one of the stars of the ongoing Club World Cup, signed for Nottingham Forest from Botafogo on Saturday. The 24-year-old center forward scored twice for Botafogo at the tournament taking place in the United States, including the decider against Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain. Igor Jesus joined Botafogo from UAE team Shabab Al Ahli in July 2024 and and his impressive domestic form earned him a first call-up by Brazil for World Cup qualifiers in October and November. He scored on his debut, against Chile. 'I'm really happy to be a part of this new story, especially at a club like Nottingham Forest,' Igor Jesus said. 'I didn't have to think twice about the offer, I embraced it. I embraced the project that they sent me. I am delighted to be coming here and hope to do some great work.' Forest finished in seventh place in the Premier League last season after being in the Champions League places for much of the campaign. MUNICH (AP) — Daniel Brown shot a second straight 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the BMW International Open on the European tour. Unheralded American Davis Bryant, the second-round leader ranked No. 576, was one of only two players in the current top 25 to not shoot an under-par score for his third round on Saturday. He birdied the last for an even-par 72 and dropped to fourth place on 12 under for the week. ___ AP golf:
