The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said on Facebook later that evening that it responded to the fire at around 7.30pm. Singaporeans can start claiming their SG60 vouchers in July. Seniors aged 60 and above can claim them from 1 July, while those aged 21 to 59 can claim them starting from 22 July, 10am. The dates were split up to prioritise older Singaporeans to recognise their contributions to the country, and devote more resources in the first three weeks of July to support elderly Singaporeans who need help to claim the vouchers digitally or print them out, said Mayor of the South West District Low Yen Ling.

Singaporeans still hold the world's most powerful passport
Singapore has once again tops the Henley Passport Index, allowing Singaporeans to continue being the holder of the world's most powerful passport. According to the latest Henley Passport Index released on 22 July, Singaporeans enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 193 out of 227 destinations worldwide.
This is a slight dip from the 195 destinations recorded in the January 2025 edition of the index, but it was not enough to knock the Republic out of the top spot.
Singapore lost visa-free or visa-on-arrival access after Pakistan and Mauritania, a West African nation, changed their visa policies, moving from visa-on-arrival to e-visa systems. Despite the change, Singapore's passport continues to offer its holders exceptional global mobility.
Japan and South Korea came in second, with access to 190 destinations. Seven European Union countries – Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain – share third place with access to 189 destinations.
The US slipped again to 10th place and is on the brink of dropping out from the top 10 ranking. This is the lowest position ever for the US in the 20-year history of the index.
The Henley Passport Index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Russia starts direct commercial flights between Moscow and Pyongyang

Russia Asia North Korea Aviation newsFacebookTweetLink Follow Russia on Sunday opened a regular air link between Moscow and Pyogyang, a move reflecting increasingly close ties between the two countries. The first flight operated by Russian carrier Nordwind took off from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport carrying over 400 passengers. Russia's Transport Ministry said there will be one flight a month to meet demand. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who visited North Korea's new Wonsan-Kalma beach resort earlier this month to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, promised to encourage Russian tourists to visit the complex. The resort, which can accommodate nearly 20,000 people, is at the center of Kim's push to boost tourism to improve his country's troubled economy. North Korea has been slowly easing the curbs imposed during the pandemic and reopening its borders in phases. But the country hasn't said if it would fully resume international tourism. Regular flights between Russia's eastern port city of Vladivostok and Pyongyang reopened in 2023 following a break caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Russia and North Korea have sharply expanded military and other ties in recent years, with Pyongyang supplying weapons and troops to back Russia's military action in Ukraine.

With solo travel now widely embraced as the ultimate act of self-care, it's no surprise that 'divorcations' are trending. But if you're wondering where to go to hit the emotional reset button, a new study from the relationship recovery app SplitUp has the answer — and the top pick might surprise you. According to the data, Tokyo, Japan ranks as the world's best destination for a post-breakup trip. The researchers analyzed cities around the globe based on wellness access, natural features like lakes and green spaces, safety scores, and average hotel prices. Tokyo scored an impressive 9.03 out of 10 — thanks in large part to its whopping 1,815 spas and wellness retreats, the most of any city on the list. It also earned high marks for safety, with a rating of 4.7 out of 5, so solo travelers can roam freely with peace of mind. For those craving the soothing effects of water, Tokyo delivers: The city has 375 lakes, rivers, and beaches to help calm frayed nerves. Sealing the deal, a three-night hotel stay averages just $279, making Tokyo not only healing but affordable. Coming in second is London, with 1,148 wellness retreats and more green space than any other city analyzed. The city's 264 rivers, lakes, and beaches provide plenty of peaceful spots for reflection, while the cultural offerings — from museums to cozy pubs — give newly single travelers lots to explore on their own terms. Auckland, New Zealand ranks third, thanks to its jaw-dropping natural beauty and 226 bodies of water. It's a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and anyone looking to process a breakup by hiking, swimming, or zoning out in nature. Taipei and Seoul round out the top five, both with strong safety scores and plenty of spas, scenic areas, and solo-friendly vibes. Solve the daily Crossword
