Klang River restoration uncovers over 10 bodies including baby discovered since 2022
SHAH ALAM (June 16): More than 10 bodies, including that of an infant, have been discovered during the ongoing Klang River Flood Mitigation Project under the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) initiative, shedding light on a grim reality behind the restoration of the river.
As reported by Sinar Harian, Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) managing director, Syaiful Azmen Nordin, said the discovery of bodies is not an isolated incident but has occurred almost monthly since dredging and widening works began on Nov 1, 2022.
'So far, we have handed over more than 10 bodies to the police and fire department for further investigation,' he was quoted as saying.
Aside from the grim finds, the team has also encountered severe pollution, having retrieved various heavy waste items such as refrigerators, lorry tyres, bed frames, mattresses, sofas and even motorcycles from the riverbed.
'I honestly don't understand how a fridge ends up in the river,' he said, describing the current level of pollution as severe and a challenge to the dredging efforts.
The mitigation project forms part of SMG's holistic efforts to increase the Klang River's capacity by up to 40 per cent, while also rehabilitating the ecosystem and improving water quality to at least Class III on the Water Quality Index (WQI). – Malay Mail bodies flood mitigation project Klang River Selangor Maritime Gateway

KARACHI (Pakistan): (Bernama-Anadolu) Pakistan's anti-cybercrime authorities on Wednesday (July 9) said they have busted an international network allegedly involved in online scams, arresting around 150 suspected members, including 71 foreigners, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. Police tracking 'basikal lajak' riders after reckless stunt on Terengganu drawbridge
KUALA TERENGGANU: Police are tracking down a group of teenagers, believed to be minors, who were seen riding basikal lajak (illegally modified bicycles) recklessly across the Terengganu drawbridge in a recent viral incident. Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said investigations were launched following a complaint over a 40-second video showing the group performing dangerous stunts in broad daylight. In the footage, several teenagers were captured riding in plank position on bicycles descending at high speed, with blatant disregard for safety and surrounding traffic. He said police were trying to identify the teenagers who may have committed two offences - illegally modifying bicycles and reckless riding. "Cyclists can be prosecuted under Regulation 42(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for riding a bicycle that has been modified to the point of being dangerous. "Therefore, we remind parents to supervise their children and not allow them to modify bicycles excessively because such acts are against the law. Parents can also be prosecuted if found negligent in supervising their children," he said when contacted today. Mohd Khairi said police would also increase patrols around the Kuala Terengganu city centre and in areas where teenagers hang out to prevent dangerous riding. Penang police seek key witness in drug trafficking case
GEORGE TOWN: Penang police are appealing for public assistance to locate a crucial witness linked to an ongoing drug investigation. The Timur Laut district police chief, ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad, identified the individual as Mohd Amiruddin Mazlan, 35, whose last known address was in Desa Permai Indah, Sungai Dua, Gelugor. Authorities stress the urgency of locating Mohd Amiruddin, as his testimony is vital for the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. This section pertains to drug trafficking and carries severe penalties, including mandatory life imprisonment or the death sentence upon conviction.
