Purdue football's highest-ranked 2026 commit flips back to regional rival
Purdue football's 2026 defensive line recruiting momentum hit a snag Wednesday. Josiah Hope, who had been the Boilermakers' highest-ranked commit in the class, announced he had flipped his commitment back to Louisville. The four-star prospect from North Hardin, Kentucky, had backed out of his previous pledge to the Cardinals on June 10 and committed to Purdue 12 days later. Hope is a four-star propect ranked No. 357 overall in the On3's industry rankings. However, since defensive line had been an early focus of this recruiting class, the Boilermakers are somewhat positioned to absorb a loss there. The next two highest-ranked commits are Ohio defensive lineman Jamarcus Whyce (three star, No. 419) and Georgia edge rusher Katrell Webb (three star, No. 663). Illinois edge rusher Max Carmicle and Center Grove defensive lineman Kobe Cherry have also committed to the class. Purdue now holds 19 commitments for 2026. Coach Barry Odom said Thursday at Big Ten media days that class would likely toward 30 players.

DeShaun Foster 'excited to have a playoff quarterback' in Nico Iamaleava at UCLA
Big Ten media days is taking place Thursday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thursday featured UCLA at media days. Former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava transferred to the Bruins from Tennessee following spring practices in April. Second-year UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster discussed Iamaleava at Big Ten media days. "The arm strength is just something you see, off just from watching him play at all,' Foster said. 'He's just a talent, and it's not anything I saw him do last season, it's more of what I had seen him do all the way up. Him being a local quarterback, I had seen him play a few times, and he's played with a lot of players that are on our team, so there is a lot familiarly there and we're just excited to have a playoff quarterback. "Somebody that was able to lead his team to a playoff, they may have not have gotten the outcome they wanted, but he was still able to play and showed how tough he was in that game. Just being able to come back home and be comfortable, and be in a familiar environment, I think the sky is the limit." The 6-foot-6, 215-pound signal-caller appeared in 18 games at Tennessee from 2023-24. He completed 241-of-379 passing attempts for 2,930 yards, 21 touchdowns and five interceptions. Iamaleava also recorded 435 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 129 attempts at Tennessee. He is from Long Beach, California. Barry Odom gives good update on Purdue football's injury status before fall camp opens
LAS VEGAS — Purdue football camp starts in less than a week. The Boilermakers will take the practice field July 31 with almost no injury setbacks. The most notable take from coach Barry Odom's statement about Purdue's health prior to Thursday's Big Ten media days at Mandalay Bay is that includes George Burhenn. "It's amazing," Odom said of Burhenn's recovery. "The injury that he had and what he's done recovery wise, he'll be cleared for practice one." Burhenn suffered a leg injury during the first play of an April 5 scrimmage. He had surgery five days later. A broken foot hindered Burhenn's 2024 season after he closed the 2023 season with five receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown in a win over Indiana. Burhenn had just one reception last season. Prior to his injury in April, Burhenn had emerged as one of Purdue's spring offensive standouts. As of now, Odom said the only injury casualty is freshman tight end Jon Grimmett. Grimmett, a three-star 2025 signee, came to Purdue with a foot injury and has since had a procedure. "Other than that, if we started tomorrow everybody would be at least practicing," Odom said. "There may be a couple limitations with a muscle strain or something that's happened in the last couple weeks but we're in really good shape right now."
