'I have no cai, I review based on merit,' says Anwar on PKR party elections
The prime minister, who is also PKR president, said he took a longer time to review each candidate for the party's central leadership as he was not guided by any 'cai'.
"I don't have a 'cai', which is why I took some time — I want to review each candidate.
"Let's look for the best and vote. That is the proper way to do it," he said when met after casting his vote at the PKR party elections today.
Anwar was accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the PKR Advisory Council chairman.
Also present were PKR Central Election Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and PKR information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
When asked which campaign he supported — 'Jelajah Hidupkan Idealisme Reformasi Dalam Ujian Kuasa' (Hiruk) or 'Dari Akar, Membina Aspirasi Inklusif' (Damai) — Anwar said he supported both.
"Hiruk and Damai. If some have their own 'cai' here and others there, I don't.
"I hope when making decisions, both are taken into account, and we go with the best," he said.
Anwar is expected to officiate the opening of the PKR National Congress 2025 at the Persada International Convention Centre later today.
Asked about the content of his speech and whether there would be any critical remarks, Anwar quipped:
"Has there ever been a presidential speech without jabs? Of course, there will be some remarks."
Commenting on PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's attendance, Anwar, who is also the Tambun member of Parliament, said Rafizi should have no qualms attending the congress in light of his position.
He added that he expects Rafizi to attend, despite speculation that he may not.
"I think he will come. He has not said anything, but I assume he will. He is the deputy president, so he should attend," he said, adding that Rafizi had no issues with his responsibilities and continued to attend Cabinet meetings regularly.

Nga: Housing reform among key pillars of 13MP
KUALA LUMPUR: Housing reform will be one of the main pillars of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which will be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Parliament on July 31. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the Madani government is committed to introducing comprehensive reforms aimed at improving housing affordability, accessibility, and sustainability for all Malaysians. "What I can share is that one of the main pillars of the 13MP is housing reform," he said, without revealing details on the reform. He said this after a walkabout in the city held in conjunction with the launch of Kuala Lumpur Architecture Week 2025 today. The 13MP, which sets the direction for the country's development from 2026 to 2030, is the first by the Madani government under Anwar's administration as the country's tenth prime minister. Meanwhile, when asked about Anwar's call for every new housing project to be comprehensively planned, complete with facilities such as schools, preschools and nurseries, Nga said; "It shows that the prime minister has always been committed and attentive in giving special attention to housing matters." Speaking at the Groundbreaking Ceremony and Launch of the SkyWorld Pearlmont Rumah Bakat Madani project in Penang yesterday, Anwar said the government will not approve any housing project that does not meet these basic needs. Nga added the Rumah Bakat Madani project in Penang, the largest affordable housing initiative to date, reflects the government's strong dedication to enhancing the wellbeing of the people and expanding access to home ownership. The project consists of 900-square-foot freehold condominiums, with each unit will come with modern features and access to shared facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, sports courts, multipurpose hall, surau, kindergarten, food stalls, children's playground, central park and a vertical school.

Marzuki rebuts Rafizi's claim: PN did offer DPM post and cabinet roles to BN after GE15
FORMER PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli claimed that PN did not offer any positions to BN during post-GE15 negotiations and that PN leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin looked down on UMNO. However, former Political Secretary to the eighth Prime Minister, Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad, has now countered Rafizi's claims by revealing a letter proving that PN did offer BN the Deputy Prime Minister post, Cabinet positions, and other government roles. Marzuki insisted that negotiations were cordial, Muhyiddin never belittled UMNO, and it was Rafizi who was lying about what truly happened in those discussions. 'I watched a podcast video by Rafizi claiming that PN did not make any offer to BN during the negotiations to form a government after GE15. 'In fact, he claimed Tan Sri Muhyiddin looked down on UMNO. He said he had an insider in the PN-BN negotiations at Hotel St Regis on 23 November 2022. 'I don't know if he really had an insider or not. Brother Rafizi, you are lying,' he said in a Facebook post on Saturday. Marzuki emphasised that he wasn't merely an insider but was directly involved in the negotiations from beginning to end. He described the discussions with BN as having taken place in a friendly and respectful atmosphere. 'Not once did Muhyiddin belittle UMNO. Moreover, those who attended were all his friends from UMNO and BN. They spoke like friends too. 'Secondly, in any negotiation, there must be offers. The BN delegation came with the offer of BN MPs giving 'en-bloc' support to Muhyiddin as Prime Minister. 'In return, PN offered the Deputy Prime Minister post to BN, Cabinet positions according to the number of parliamentary seats won, and several other matters,' he said. —July 20, 2025 Main image: Sinar Harian

PM Anwar revisits childhood home in Cherok Tok Kun
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took a brief but poignant detour during his official duties in Penang, yesterday to visit his childhood home in Cherok Tok Kun, Bukit Mertajam. The modest wooden house, where he grew up, holds deep sentimental value for the nation's leader. For Anwar, the house is more than just a structure. It represents the foundation of his life journey, filled with love, sacrifice, and dreams that shaped his leadership today. 'This house was small and simple, but it was where love flourished,' he wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post, which garnered over 18,000 likes and 600 shares by 11.30am. He recalled growing up there with his siblings, playing freely, laughing, and crying together while witnessing their parents' relentless efforts to secure a better future for the family. 'Every corner of this house holds a thousand stories, its floors bearing witness to small steps that have carried me this far,' Anwar shared. The visit also allowed him to embrace and catch up with his brothers, Idrus and Marzuki, rekindling cherished memories. 'There's a longing fulfilled, memories that bloom again,' he wrote emotionally. To me, Cherok Tok Kun remains the base of my roots, no matter how high I have soared. The humble home symbolises the core of his struggles today—justice, dignity, and love for the rakyat. 'This is where I began—Cherok Tok Kun, Bukit Mertajam. Every return reminds me that everything I fight for today started here, with this family, with this sacred love that never fades,' he added.
