Stephen Welsh shoulder issue may require surgery

Midfielder Luke McCowan opened the scoring for the Scottish champions in the inaugural Cork Super Cup game in Ireland in the 28th minute with a sweet strike from just inside the box but a mix-up in the Hoops defence in the 67th minute, with interval substitute Welsh culpable, led to an equaliser from Matthew Murray.
There was more misery for the 25-year-old centre-back, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Belgian side Mechelen, when he had to go off with his arm strapped up to protect yet another shoulder problem.
Eighteen-year-old Colby Donovan, who was substituted before coming back on to replace Welsh, scored the late winner with a header.
Hoops boss Rodgers confirmed Welsh's situation to Celtic TV, saying: 'He's done his shoulder again.
'It's the fourth time that it's popped out so I think you know when it keeps coming out like that, there's the possibility of an operation. So, he has to have a wee think about that.
'I think by the time the physios got on, it popped back in, but the pain was too sore so we took him off.'
Rodgers described the match against the League of Ireland outfit at Pairc Ui Chaoimh as a 'really good exercise' for his side, which was far from full strength and which was much changed by the final whistle.
The Northern Irishman said: 'First half, really good. We obviously changed the team and a lot of the young players in the second half will have learned from that.
'We didn't quite keep the ball so well and gave up the ball too cheaply.
'But overall, still find that Celtic mentality to keep going right to the very end and I've always said there's never a friendly when you play for Celtic. It's always a test because every team will want to always beat you.
'So we kept going right to the very end and Colby, who's been excellent, got the winning goal.'
Celtic made it two wins out of two in pre-season after a win against Queen's Park last Friday and will head off to Portugal to continue their preparation for the upcoming campaign.
Rodgers said: 'Obviously come the weekend, the international players will be back involved in the game (against Estrela da Amadora).
'But the start to the pre-season has been really good and we've got to continue working very, very hard. I think that's the nature of pre-season.
'There's no let-up, there's nothing easy, got to work to build that foundation of fitness and then we'll be, as I said, fully prepared, but we're looking forward to Portugal.'
Meanwhile, Celtic announced Gustaf Lagerbielke has joined Braga on a permanent transfer.
The 25-year-old Sweden defender joined the Parkhead club from Elfsborg in 2023 but spent last season on loan at Twente in the Netherlands.

Wales 1-4 France: Rhian Wilkinson's side well-beaten in second Euro 2025 match

Wales are all but out of Euro 2025 after losing 4-1 to France in St Gallen. Manager Rhian Wilkinson was bold in her team selection, making four changes to the starting line-up, changed the formation and the goalkeeper for this one. In came stopper Safia Middleton-Patel along with Kayleigh Barton, Rachel Rowe and Ffion Morgan. It appeared to make little difference as France took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes. All of the action had been in Wales' half before Les Bleus' third corner of the match bobbled to the back post, where Clara Mateo had time to control the ball with her chest and smash the volley home. But moments later Wales finally arrived on the big stage. Ceri Holland raced in behind and latched onto a long ball. She managed to scramble it across the box, where Jess Fishlock was waiting to tap into an open net. Wales' first shot on target in this tournament brought their first goal. Celebrations were delayed as the assistant referee on the far side initially flagged for offside but VAR overturned the decision sparking wild celebrations on the Welsh bench and in the stands. Another historic moment. Wales were then unhappy with a challenge on Fishlock by French captain Grace Geyoro. It looked clumsy and she made heavy contact with Wales' goalscorer but referee Desiree Grundbacher wasn't interested. Wales' star player left the field temporarily but the Red Wall breathed a huge sigh of relief when she returned. France still looked comfortable and Middleton-Patel's goalmouth remained the busier of the two. You sensed that getting through to half time at 1-1 would be a significant boost. But again, Wilkinson's side conceded right on the stroke of half time. France had far too much time and space to slide the ball into Mateo, she spun Gemma Evans with ease and was clipped down by Holland in the box. It looked a clear penalty, and there were few complaints. Kadidiatou Diani stepped up to take it. Middleton-Patel dove to her right but the penalty was scuffed. Wales' goalkeeper got her feet to it but it wasn't enough as the ball spun painfully into the back of the net. France took a 2-1 lead in at half time, giving Wales yet another mountain to climb. That mountain grew 10 minutes into the second. Middleton-Patel hesitated on the ball in her own box and lost possession. She couldn't scramble back to her line in time and France's Amel Majri slotted it into the far corner. Wales posed some questions up the other end soon after. Holland weaved her way into the penalty area but couldn't find the space for a potent shot. When she did eventually get one away, it was smothered to safety. And just beyond the hour mark, France were celebrating again. This time a low cross in the middle of the box evaded the Welsh defenders - and Middleton-Patel - leaving Geyoro cushion the ball into the back of the net. As the game ticked into the last 10 minutes, Carrie Jones earned a corner down this near side. French goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin spilled it, leading to a goalmouth scramble. There were cries of handball as it pinged around the six-yard box but nothing was given. Late on, former captain Sophie Ingle replaced Fishlock to huge applause from the Red Wall to her right. It was Ingle's first game since suffering a serious knee ligament injury in August. But the game meandered towards its conclusion and it was a second consecutive three-goal defeat. They must now topple a significant goal difference and hope France beat the Netherlands in the final round to reach the knockout stages. Wales: Middleton-Patel; E Morgan, Green, Evans, Woodham; Barton, James (C), Rowe; Holland, FF Morgan, Fishlock.

And it's understood the move should be finalised following his national team commitments, which end on July 15. Yamada scored 19 league goals last term. And while he has failed to hit the same form this season, his bustling style has impressed Hoops scouts. Celtic wing target Michel-Ange Balikwisha sat out Antwerp training yesterday amid continued Hoops interest. The champions have tracked the Belgian winger since last year — with reports this week claiming a deal is close. Balikwisha, 24, is at Antwerp's pre-season training camp in Austria, but he wasn't part of the 28-man squad involved in yesterday's session. He has just 12 months left on his deal in Belgium and the club want to cash in. Celts were linked with a move for Balikwisha in January and ran fresh checks on him towards the end of the season. Capped at up to Under-21 level, the versatile attacker has had injury issues in recent years but is highly rated. Antwerp need money for their own squad rebuilding and are ready to sell at the right price. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up Celtic are in the market for wide men with Nicolas Kuhn heading for Como in a £17m switch and Jota out injured until 2026. Speaking after the 2-1 win over Cork City on Tuesday, boss Brendan Rodgers said: 'There is lot of work going on in the background, and things we're hoping to achieve over the coming weeks. 'We definitely need that, especially at the top end of the pitch. 'There is a lot of work going on, but I can't confirm there's anything at this moment.' 4 Isak Jansson was a target, but the Rapid Vienna winger is heading to Nice in an £8.5m deal. Ligue 1 new boys Paris FC were also chasing the Swedish ace, while Italian duo Lazio and Fiorentina had also tracked the 23- year-old, who cost Rapid a fee of only £200,000 from Spanish minnows Cartagena last summer. But Nice entered the bidding late on and blew everyone else out of the water with a huge offer. A Rapid statement said: 'In consultation with SK Rapid's sporting management, Isak Jansson has left the summer training camp early. 'The Swedish winger was given permission to leave for talks with a club abroad interested in signing him.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
