DGP: CCTVs, drones to monitor Kanwar routes

Time of India3 days ago
Lucknow: With the 2025 Kanwar Yatra set to witness a massive influx of pilgrims, DGP Rajeev Krishna issued directives to ensure watertight security, real-time surveillance and seamless traffic management during the annual religious procession.
In a technology-led policing push, over 29,000 CCTV cameras and 400 drones have been deployed along key Kanwar routes, forming a sweeping digital security grid to monitor crowd movement and respond instantly to emergencies.
In line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's instructions to ensure a peaceful yatra, the DGP said that police units across all zones have been mobilised under a unified command structure. Over 66,000 personnel—including 587 gazetted officers, over 13,000 SIs, 40,000 constables and women police—have been deployed.
Rapid Action Force (RAF), Quick Response Teams (QRT), ATS, PAC companies and home guards will also maintain strict vigil.
Drones and CCTV footage will be streamed in real-time to a dedicated 24x7 control room at UP Police headquarters in Lucknow. Anti-sabotage checks and full camera coverage have been ensured at all Kanwar camps and food distribution centres.
In all, 1,845 water booths, 829 medical camps and 1,222 police cetres were set up along the yatra routes.
Pilgrim safety information—including traffic plans and diversions—is being disseminated through barcoded newspaper ads, hoardings and social media channels.
An eight-member monitoring team at DGP headquarters will flag fake news, inflammatory posts and rumours in real-time. Inter-state coordination among officials from UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan is being managed via a dedicated WhatsApp group.
Highways have been marked for traffic diversions, with signage and lighting already in place. Heavy vehicles will be rerouted and Kanwar-bound traffic will be escorted by police. Pilgrims are being counselled against reckless bike stunts and patrolling units have been deployed round-the-clock with UP-112 emergency response teams on standby.
Additional safety measures include trained divers stationed near rivers and canals, special provisions for women pilgrims, quality control of food at eateries and dhabas along the route and live public announcements at major intersections.
The DGP said Kanwar Yatra would serve as a model of high-tech, people-centric policing, combining crowd control, emergency response and public outreach in a coordinated state-wide operation.

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 13 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said Rs 1,543.16 crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of 1.27 crore women under the Ladli Behna Yojana scheme. His remarks came while addressing a program organised for Ladli Behna Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and Social Security Pension Scheme on Saturday. 'Rs 1,543.16 crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of 1.27 crore women under the Ladli Behna Yojana scheme... We are also providing help through the PM Ujjawala Yojana scheme and have provided Rs 46 crore and 36 lakhs of the subsidy...' he said. Meanwhile, CM Yadav took a holy dip in the Shipra river at Narsingh Ghat located in Ujjain district and offered prayers. 'I try to take a dip in the Shipra River every year here. It is an old spot and Narsingh Temple is located here, devotees come here to take a holy dip throughout the year, especially during the holy month of Sawan and earn virtue,' CM Yadav told reporters. Earlier, CM Yadav participated in the Kanwar Yatra in Ujjain and also showered flowers to welcome the Kanwar Yatris. Yadav also highlighted that the state government would ensure tight security arrangements for all Kanwar Yatris, along with appropriate facilities. He further added that instructions in this regard were already issued. The Chief Minister welcomed Kanwar Yatris with a shower of flowers. He also performed worship of Kanwar, lifted it, and along with Mahamandaleshwar of Agni Akhada, Uttam Swami, began Kanwar Yatra by walking on foot. The Chief Minister said that the tradition of celebrating all festivals with enthusiasm has been initiated by the state government. With the blessings of God and saints, preparations for Simhastha-2028 in Ujjain are being carried out rapidly. 'We are making all preparations with the thought that even if events like Simhastha are held every year after 2028, there should be no difficulty. Keeping in view Simhastha-2028, a 'Simhastha Dharmik City' is also being constructed in Ujjain for setting up ashrams and other arrangements for saints, so that convenient facilities can be ensured for the large number of devotees visiting Ujjain,' he said. Addressing Kanwar Yatris, Chief Minister Yadav said there are many cultures in the world, and though there are 194 countries, no country begins any auspicious work by taking a vow with water. 'Indian culture has always considered water as life itself, and a way of living. By the grace of God, we have been aware of the qualities of water for thousands of years.' 'Sawan' holds a special place in Hindu mythology. Devotees undertake fasts and offer prayers to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva during this period. The chanting of Shiva mantras, singing bhajans (devotional songs), and performing Rudrabhishek (ceremonial bathing of Shiva Lingam with holy substances) are common practices observed with fervour across households and temples during 'Sawan' month. CM Yogi Adityanath says religious conversions a deep conspiracy, won't be tolerated

LUCKNOW: CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday termed illegal religious conversions a calculated conspiracy to undermine the nation's identity and destroy social fabric, asserting that Uttar Pradesh government was taking firm action to curb it. Yogi referred to the recent case of Balrampur where a large-scale illegal conversion racket backed by foreign funding was unearthed. The CM revealed that the suspicious transactions of over Rs 100 crore was found across 40 accounts with pre-determined 'rates' for conversion. He termed it a grave threat to economic and social security of the state and the nation. 'Some forces are deliberately trying to alter the fundamental character of the country through unlawful conversions. This is an attack on social cohesion and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances,' the CM said while addressing the flagging-off ceremony of Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra dedicated to 350th Shaheedi Varsh of the Sikh Guru. Yogi underlined that marginalised communities, particularly Scheduled Castes, were being lured and coerced into changing their religion. He emphasised that such acts were against the spirit of the Constitution and the principle of social equality. The Yatra, which commenced from Lucknow, will pass through Kanpur, Etawah, and Agra before culminating at Chandni Chowk and the historic Sheeshganj Gurudwara in Delhi—the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom. A commemorative memento was also presented to the CM to mark the occasion.
