Cision Canada10-06-2025
VALENCIA, Calif., June 10, 2025 /CNW/ -- Cunard has come together with Abbey Road Studios to bring a new and exclusive Listening Lounge experience to music lovers on board Queen Elizabeth.
The luxury cruise line has partnered with the iconic recording studio to create a series of curated playlists packed with iconic recordings, each specially handpicked by the Abbey Road team.
Set to debut on Queen Elizabeth this Autumn, the 60-minute Listening Lounge experience will be hosted in the Commodore Club, taking listeners on a themed journey via Hi-Res / ANC Bowers & Wilkins headphones.
A number of the world's most celebrated artists from Abbey Road's rich recording heritage will feature in the playlists, including the likes of Ed Sheeran (who recorded part of '÷' on Queen Mary 2), Fela Kuti, Gregory Porter, Ezra Collective, Little Simz, and The Beatles – who famously hail from Cunard's spiritual home, Liverpool.
The Beatles connection also represents a symmetry of two very special crossings, with their iconic Abbey Road album, the cover of which four Cunard bellhops have recreated above, released in 1969 – the same year as QE2's maiden Transatlantic Crossing to the USA.
The playlists will also serve up some of the world's most famous film scores, showcasing Abbey Road's recently refurbished Studio One, as the home of film music for more than 45 years. Guests will be treated to goose-bump recordings from the likes of Raiders of The Lost Ark, The Return of The Jedi, The Last Emperor, The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, Harry Potter, Skyfall,
The Shape of Water and Gravity. And more recently, the Black Panther films, 1917, Tár, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Wonka, Barbie, Deadpool & Wolverine, Gladiator II, and Wicked.
Guests will have the chance to experience the Listening Lounges on select sea days, starting during Queen Elizabeth's maiden Caribbean season from Miami in October. A curated menu of paired Cunard cocktails will be on offer to complement the music and scenery.
Abbey Road at Sea
Music fans will be able to enjoy the ultimate experience on this special Event Voyage in partnership with Abbey Road. The sailing departs Southampton for New York on October 23, 2026, the same voyage as many music legends over the years, celebrating the incredible heritage of Abbey Road.
The week-long crossing will feature live performances, a photography exhibition, and intimate Q&As with Abbey Road's roster of award-winning recording and mastering engineers – sharing stories of the studios' continuous innovation, creativity, and role as an inspiring home for creators around the globe.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: "We're always exploring new ways to make life on board even more special, and incredible voyages deserve incredible soundtracks. Abbey Road Studios is synonymous with iconic musical performances, and this partnership allows us to bring this heritage to sea. Ed Sheeran showcases debut collection of Jackson Pollock-esque art

Ed Sheeran poses for photographers upon arrival at the premiere of the film 'F1 The Movie' on Monday, June 23, 2025, in London. (Photo by Scott A Garfitt/Invision/AP) London, United Kingdom -- British pop star Ed Sheeran has swapped a microphone for paint brushes, with the fruits of his endeavours to go on display later this week, the London gallery exhibiting his works confirmed Wednesday. The abstract pieces -- colourful Jackson Pollock-esque paintings and prints -- will be available to buy, with part of the proceeds going to the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which supports musical education in schools. They are also set to be exhibited at Heni art gallery in central London from Friday until August 1, with the collection called 'Cosmic Carpark Paintings', the gallery said. Sheeran, 34, behind smash hits like 'Shape of You' and 'Perfect', took to social media earlier this week to share the news, explaining he worked on the paintings last year in between shows. He also shared a video of his painting process at work, showing him splashing large canvases with brightly coloured paint. 'I love painting, more for fun and to give to friends, but this time I was encouraged to do a show of them by @damienhirst and @heni,' he posted on Instagram. 'I paint when I'm not working on a record, just to do something creative with my brain. And it's mostly just splashing colours on canvases, think Jackson Pollock but with colourful house paint.' Sheeran added that did not make him 'an artist' but noted that he loves 'making art' and that 'it makes me feel great, and I love the end result'. Heni, which said Sheeran's 'painting journey' began in 2019 following his record-breaking Divide tour, noted he used one of his earlier creations as the official artwork for his single 'Afterglow' in 2020. The colourful pieces in his debut collection were 'inspired by celestial patterns' and painted in a disused London carpark last year, it added. Singer, songwriter, and performer Sheeran is one of the most listened to artists in the world. He also makes the list of the 40 richest people under 40 in the U.K., with a fortune estimated at £370 million (US$504 million), according to the Sunday Times' latest annual wealth rankings of Britons. Supreme Court declines to hear copyright appeal that alleged Ed Sheeran copied Marvin Gaye song

Ed Sheeran poses on the red carpet as he attends the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in February 2024. (Mario Anzuoni / Reuters / File via CNN Newsource) The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a copyright suit against pop star Ed Sheeran filed by a company that alleged his smash single 'Thinking Out Loud' copied the classic Marvin Gaye song 'Let's Get It On.' Sheeran has been fighting – and successfully defending against – different iterations of the lawsuit for years. In a related case, a jury in 2023 concluded that Sheeran's number, which won a Grammy in 2016, did not infringe on the copyright that was originally registered in 1973. By declining to hear the appeal, the Supreme Court left in place a decision from the New York-based 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals siding with Sheeran. The suit before the high court was filed by a company called Structured Asset Sales, which owned a one-ninth interest in the royalties from 'Let's Get It On,' Gaye's iconic Motown song. The question put to the justices was whether the appeals court gave too much deference to the US Copyright Office interpretation of the Copyright Act of 1909. The Supreme Court's conservative majority recently limited the circumstances under which courts are supposed to defer to interpretations of vague laws by federal agencies, overturning a 1984 precedent Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council. The Copyright Office concluded that the protections for the song were limited to the handwritten sheet music Gaye's co-writer, Ed Townsend, had submitted in the 1970s. Structured Asset Sales claimed that Sheeran's song copied elements of 'Let's Get It On,' like the drums and tempo. The company argued that the rights to many other songs were at stake in case. 'The rights of thousands of legacy musical composers and artists, of many of the most beloved and enduring pieces of popular music, are at the center of the controversy,' its attorneys told the Supreme Court. But Sheeran's lawyers countered, among other things, that the sheet music submitted did not indicate a tempo. They also argued that the text of the copyright law is clear and didn't require courts to defer to the Copyright Office's interpretation. John Fritze, CNN
