Celtic tipped to sign Hearts star before he's even kicked a ball as former Rangers man tells rivals what they want to hear

Andrei Kanchelskis believes Celtic are the ultimate goal for anyone coming to Scotland Islam Chesnokov has been tipped for a future move to Celtic – before he's even kicked a ball for Hearts. It comes from former Rangers star Andrei Kanchelskis who believes the Hoops are ahead of his old club by a 'wide margin' – which makes them the ultimate goal for anyone coming to Scotland. ‌ Hearts have agreed a pre-contract deal with Kazakhstan international Chesnokov, but are trying to do a deal with his club FC Tobol to land him before then. ‌ Kanchelskis, who won 59 caps for the Soviet Union, the CIS and Russia, was at Ibrox for four years from 1998 and ended up winning six major trophies with Rangers. He's now in charge of Russian second tier outfit Dynamo Bryansk and was asked about why Chesnokov has opted to move to Hearts instead of going to Russia, where there was plenty of interest in him. Kanchelskis explained: "The Scottish league is quite high level and there is a lot of quality there. It's a very physical league. But the problem is this is only a league with two teams - Celtic and Rangers. And Celtic are leading by a wide margin. "Another five or six, including Hearts, are fighting for places in the European competitions. But the main advantage for Islam Chesnokov of moving to Scotland is the opportunity to be noticed by Celtic or English clubs and eventually sign for them. This is an opportunity for progress. "Yes, the level of the Russian Premier League is clearly higher than in Scotland, but there's no Europe for him there and no one will notice him in Russia. ‌ "So if it was me, I would have done what Islam did and moved to Scotland too." Celtic target ‘to travel this week to seal transfer' as Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers closes in on FOURTH summer signing

Credit: PA Having secured the sensational return of Kieran Tierney several months ago, Celtic have since added backup goalkeeper Ross Doohan and winger Benjamin Nygren to the squad. But the Hoops are far from done and Brendan Rodgers could be about to imminently bolster his defence. Centre-back Hayato Inamura is one of two Japanese players who have emerged as Celtic targets this transfer window. The 23-year old currently plays for Albirex Niigata - but it looks like he will play his final game for the club TODAY. Japanese outlet Sponichi say that the clash with Machida Zelvia will be his last for the side. The report claims an agreement for the move has been reached, with Inamura heading to Europe this coming week to complete all of the formalities. It says he'll undergo a medical 'early next week' before signing. A move to Celtic would cap a quickfire rise in the game for Inamura, who has only been playing senior league football for six months. He would become the latest in a growing list of players from Japan to represent Celtic. Shunsuke Nakamura made himself a firm Parkhead favourite two decades ago, with more recent acquisitions Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi all making a stunning impact on Scottish football. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up Inamura might not be the only recruit from the this summer at Celtic Park. Just over a week ago, SunSport exclusively revealed that Celtic had watched Kawasaki Frontale striker Shin Yamada. We told you how the Hoops were eyeing a move for the 25-year old frontman who hit 19 league goals in the 2024 season. Kawasaki Frontale are the club Celtic signed Hatate from back in January 2022. Current Celts striker Johnny Kenny could be on his way OUT of the club. SunSport revealed last night how Bolton Wanderers are keen on landing the 22-year old. It's understood the Hoops want £1million for the Republic of Ireland under-21 cap. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
