Rita Ora reveals she proposed to Taika Waititi in her own way — and it's heartwarming
The couple began dating in 2021 after meeting at a barbecue at Taika's home in 2018, and they got engaged in 2022. Taika had previously told Vogue, 'Rita proposed to me,' adding that he said 'yes' immediately.
On the Begin Again podcast this week, Rita gave more insight into the proposal, which took place during a trip to Palm Springs.
She explained, 'I rented a really nice hotel room in Palm Springs, decorated it with heart-shaped balloons and a heart-shaped cake — basically doing what I would have wanted if someone proposed to me,' she said with a laugh.
When Taika entered the room, he jokingly asked, 'What the hell? Is it Valentine's Day?' to which Rita responded, 'No!'
Rita then got down on one knee, leaving Taika surprised and asking, 'What is happening?'
At first, Rita thought Taika might decline, recalling she wondered, 'Maybe he doesn't want it. Maybe it's okay to just be in a relationship.' She added, 'Which was fine with me, too. But I just wanted to lock him down.'
Thankfully, Taika said yes, telling her, 'Absolutely. What the hell, get up.'
The couple went on to marry in August 2022. Reflecting on their wedding, Rita described it as 'beautiful.'

Adele opens up about her powerful journey beyond weight loss
LOS ANGELES, July 20: Pop superstar Adele has been open and candid about her dramatic weight loss, which she revealed publicly in 2020. The 'Hello' singer lost approximately 100 pounds over two years, sharing her transformation with fans via Instagram. Since then, she has spoken about the lifestyle changes behind her journey and the motivation that drove her. In an October 2021 interview with British Vogue, Adele explained that her focus was never simply on losing weight, but rather on building strength and dedicating time for herself without distractions. 'It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone,' she said. The 16-time Grammy winner also addressed the intense public scrutiny surrounding her changing body. 'My body's been objectified my entire career. It's not just now,' Adele told Vogue. 'I understand why it's a shock. I understand why some women, especially, were hurt. Visually, I represented a lot of women. But I'm still the same person.' Adele first surprised fans in May 2020 when she posted a birthday photo on Instagram, showcasing her slimmer figure in a fitted black mini dress. The post quickly went viral, with fans and celebrity friends praising her transformation. The singer's weight loss coincided with a nearly six-year break from music, during which she was also going through a divorce from her ex-husband, Simon Konecki, with whom she shares a son, Angelo. In her Vogue interviews, Adele revealed that she turned to fitness as a way to manage anxiety after her divorce. 'The gym became my time. I realized that when I was working out, I didn't have any anxiety. It was never about losing weight,' she said. She added that physical strength helped her work towards emotional and mental strength. She described experiencing severe anxiety attacks following her separation, saying, 'They paralyzed me completely, and made me so confused because I wouldn't be able to have any control over my body.' Working out became a key part of her healing process. Though her weight loss appeared sudden to many, Adele emphasized it was the result of consistent effort over two years. 'I got quite addicted to working out,' she said, describing a rigorous routine of weight training, hiking or boxing, and cardio exercises, supported by professional trainers. Notably, Adele stressed that she did not follow any specific diets, stating, 'Ain't done that. No intermittent fasting. Nothing. If anything, I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard.' Adele also shared how difficult it was to hear criticism from other women about her body transformation. 'The most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body. I was very f------ disappointed with that,' she told Vogue. Despite this, she said she wasn't surprised by the scrutiny, noting her body has always been subject to objectification in the public eye. Her son Angelo was a significant motivator in her decision to improve her health. A source close to Adele told PEOPLE in 2019 that she wanted to stay healthy for her child and was committed to maintaining a new fitness routine, which she was beginning to enjoy. Despite her transformation, Adele remains a vocal advocate for body positivity, making it clear that her views have not changed. 'People have been talking about my body for 12 years. They used to talk about it before I lost weight. But yeah, whatever, I don't care,' she said. 'You don't need to be overweight to be body positive, you can be any shape or size.' She reiterated this message in her conversation with Oprah Winfrey, stating, 'I was body positive then and I'm body positive now.' Adele also emphasized that she does not feel responsible for how others perceive their own bodies, saying, 'It's not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies. I feel bad if anyone feels horrible about themselves but that's not my job. I'm trying to sort my own life out. I can't add another worry.'

Late fashion icon Lagerfeld's villa sold for 4.7 million euros
A villa outside Paris once owned by late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld sold at auction on Tuesday for 4.7 million euros, under a traditional method where time is counted by candles. Bought in 2010 by Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, the villa in Louveciennes west of Paris fetched just above the asking price of 4.6 million euros ($5.4 million). Abandoned after his death, the house was purchased in 2023 by a real estate company. Held in a style the late designer himself may have approved of, the sale took place according to the traditional notary auction method, as a so-called 'candle auction'. In a candle auction, which is still commonplace in France, the sale time is defined by the burning of two small candles, each lasting about fifteen seconds. The villa is in a two-hectare (five acre) park with three separate houses, a swimming pool and a tennis court. The house is surrounded by trees or walls ensuring 'discretion and anonymity', said Jerome Cauro, of Arias, the firm handling the sale. The designer's studio occupied a large part of the first floor of the main house. 'He put everything into this last house; he really loved it. He called it 'the true version of himself',' his muse and associate, Amanda Harlech, told Vogue in 2021. The former Chanel creative director even had his childhood bedroom recreated in a small room with leopard-print walls. According to Arias, the fashion legend carried out 'colossal works' on the property, which belonged to the 19th century poet Leconte de Lisle and members of the Rothschild family in the first half of the 19th century. 'We don't have the bill, but we estimate that the cost of the work is close to the asking price,' said Arno Felber, also a notary at Arias. Legend has it that Lagerfeld only slept there one night. The mansion was above all 'a property for peace, rest and study', where Lagerfeld liked to entertain guests, said Felber. In March 2024, Lagerfeld's futuristic three-room Paris apartment was sold for 10 million eurosy firm Althemis, twice its asking price. - AFP

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom confirm separation after months of transition
NEW YORK, July 5, (AP): Popstar Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom have split, multiple media outlets reported Thursday. Outlets including People and USA Today cited a statement that said the pair "have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting' and would continue to be seen in public with their daughter. The statement, attributed to representatives for both stars, said their priority would be raising their daughter with 'love, stability, and mutual respect.' The statement came a week after reports of the couple's breakup swirled ahead of the wedding of billionaire Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos, which Bloom attended alone. Perry has been on a world tour. Representatives for Perry and Bloom did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' request for comment. Perry, 40, and Bloom, 48, have been romantically linked since 2016. The pair split in 2017 but rekindled shortly thereafter, getting engaged on Valentine's Day in 2019, as Perry revealed during an interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live.' In 2020, the pair welcomed a daughter named Daisy Dove Bloom. Perry and Bloom got UNICEF to announce the news on its Instagram account. Both are goodwill ambassadors for the United Nations agency that helps children. Bloom and his former wife, Australian model Miranda Kerr, have a son, Flynn, who was born in 2011. Daisy is Perry's only child. Perry, born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, was previously married to comedian Russell Brand. Born and raised in California, the 13-time Grammy Award nominee helped usher in the sound of '00s pop, quickly becoming one of the bestselling artists of all time for her campy, big, belting anthems. She has released seven studio albums, most notably 2010's sugar-sweet "Teenage Dream.' The album produced five No. 1s that tied a record set by Michael Jackson's 1987 album "Bad.' Bloom, who is from Canterbury, England, is best known for his roles as the elf Legolas in "The Lord of the Rings' and "The Hobbit" films as well as Will Turner in the "Pirates of the Caribbean' series.
