American University of Sharjah (AUS) has achieved its strongest performance ever in the 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings, climbing 60 places to 272nd globally. This places AUS among the top 18 percent of ranked higher education institutions worldwide. 'Although rankings alone do not define a university, they do serve as an important external signal of the strength of its academic community, the impact of its research and the value its graduates bring to society. This year, we were pleased to have made significant gains in our overall position and across several key indicators. We are particularly proud of our continued strong performance in employer reputation and employer outcomes, both in the UAE and globally, as one of our primary goals is to ensure our graduates make a meaningful impact far beyond AUS,' notes Dr Tod A. Laursen, the Chancellor of AUS. The latest results announced by QS include marked improvements for AUS in indicators such as employer reputation, academic reputation and citations per faculty. Globally, AUS now ranks third for international faculty and fourth for international student diversity. Within the UAE, it ranks first for employer reputation and international student diversity and second for employment outcomes. AUS also retained its position among the top three universities nationally and made notable progress in academic reputation — rising from the top five to third place. According to Chancellor Laursen, these results reflect the impact of a clear institutional vision supported by sustained investment in people, programs and partnerships. Over the past year, AUS has expanded its academic portfolio by 33 percent, particularly at the graduate level, and launched six new research centers focused on globally relevant issues ranging from AI to sustainability. AUS also recently announced that starting in Fall 2025, it will introduce five new graduate programs and one undergraduate programme: a Master of Arts in Media Studies and Practice, a Master of Arts in Translation, a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering, a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a PhD in Management and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science — each designed in response to global needs and national development priorities. 'Since graduating from AUS, I've worked alongside peers from top universities around the world. Time and again, I've found that the quality of education and training I received at AUS puts me right on par with them, if not ahead. It's a university that truly prepares you to thrive, both professionally and personally,' says Alanood Al Dhaher, Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing at AUS. AUS is also seeing significant research breakthroughs in areas of global relevance, from targeted therapies for breast cancer using immunoliposomes and ultrasound, to compact radar systems for drones and blockchain-powered platforms for transparent carbon trading. Alongside the launch of ClymAct, a start-up based on AUS research, these advances signal a growing culture of applied research and innovation on campus. In parallel to this growing body of innovative research, AUS has been proactively positioning itself at the forefront of AI integration in teaching and learning. The university now offers 58 courses integrating artificial intelligence, along with many others focused on robotics, biotechnology and machine learning. It has also established an AI Hub — housed within the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning — to help faculty and students thoughtfully incorporate AI into their daily teaching, learning and research. While AUS already attracts some of the brightest minds in the region, its latest QS rankings will likely only strengthen its appeal to top global talent looking to be part of a forward-thinking community. For new students, these rankings will offer reassuring proof that AUS offers a transformative education that is both intellectually rigorous and globally relevant. SCC closes a session with 17 meetings reflecting strong engagement
During this session, 17 general meetings were held, during which the Council discussed a number of laws and public policies. The Council played a key role in enhancing the legislative environment in line with the emirate's aspirations and development goals, in alignment with the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah . A total of 10 draft laws were discussed and approved, covering a range of vital sectors. In addition, the Council addressed four key public issues related to various government departments and authorities. These discussions reflected pressing community concerns and included topics such as the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, the Sharjah Health Authority, the Department of Economic Development, and the Sharjah International Airport Authority. These topics were thoroughly discussed in the presence of the relevant government entities. During the public issue sessions, members raised 194 direct questions, reflecting their commitment to delving into the details of government policies and closely monitoring how well the concerned authorities are implementing the Council's recommendations . A total of 93 members requested to speak or submitted formal inquiries during the sessions. The meetings saw 205 parliamentary interventions, reflecting active and direct engagement in the discussions. These contributions played a key role in shaping the Council's direction and formulating its final recommendations . As part of its oversight role, the Council addressed two parliamentary questions. The first, raised by member Rashid Abdullah bin Huwaiden, focused on Emiratisation in the private sector. The second, brought forward by member Hamad Abdulwahab Al Qouadi, addressed the promotion of officers within the Sharjah Police and Security Force. These efforts culminated in the issuance of 25 comprehensive recommendations, reflecting the Council's commitment to supporting Sharjah's ongoing development and modernization journey, and to enhancing the quality of life for everyone living in the emirate. On the internal committee front, the Council's various committees, including the Legislative, Legal Affairs, Appeals, Suggestions and Complaints Committee; the Financial, Economic and Industrial Affairs Committee; the Education, Youth, Culture and Media Committee; the Health, Labor and Social Affairs Committee; the Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Municipalities, Security and Public Utilities Committee; the Family Affairs Committee; and the Recommendations Drafting Committee—held a total of 43 intensive meetings. These meetings focused on in-depth and specialized topics. In addition, the committees carried out 41 field visits to various departments and entities across the emirate, both central and decentralized, to gain a deeper, firsthand understanding of services, gather accurate information, and assess on-the-ground realities . In the same context, the Office of the Council, chaired by His Excellency the Council President and composed of the heads of the Council's committees, held four meetings to coordinate the parliamentary and legislative agenda and to guide the overall direction of the Council's parliamentary work. At the close of the session, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council, expressed his pride in the accomplishments achieved. He emphasized that the Council, throughout this session, reflected a strong model of collaboration between the legislative and executive branches. He stated, 'What has been accomplished is the result of constructive cooperation and active engagement among Council members, committees, and the wider community. This approach is a hallmark of Sharjah under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, whose vision places people at the heart of development .' For his part, His Excellency Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary-General of the Council, affirmed that the success of this parliamentary session was the result of strategic planning and a collaborative effort by the General Secretariat, the committees, and all Council members. He noted that the numbers speak to the scale of work accomplished and highlight the Council's strong institutional spirit in fulfilling its national and local responsibilities. Al Jarwan also emphasized that the General Secretariat will continue providing full support to the Council's work and closely follow up on the implementation of its recommendations, ensuring they align with the vision of the wise leadership and serve the best interests of the Sharjah community .

Sharjah Airport wins 2024 Sharjah Excellence Award
The SAA's win was based on its outstanding performance across four key pillars: community, environment, workplace, and stakeholder engagement. Strengthening Sharjah Airport's role as a key hub in regional and global air transport It is worth noting that Sharjah Airport Authority has succeeded in generating positive engagement among its employees through its diverse community initiatives, as well as achieving high levels of community satisfaction. This serves as clear evidence of the success of the integrated framework adopted by the SAA, which continues to develop its services and introduce innovative smart solutions that reinforce Sharjah Airport's position as a major hub in regional and global air transport. These efforts have also resulted in a number of prestigious international certifications and accreditations in the fields of quality and sustainability, including the renewal of its Level 3+ Carbon, the ACI Airport Customer Experience Accreditation, and recognition of the Authority as a Child- and Family-Friendly Institution, among other achievements.
