Malaysia Techlympics aims to engage 1.7mil participants
It will extend its reach to international participants in a science, technology and innovation (STI) competition.
The enculturation programme is organised by Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry through its agency Malaysian Bioeconomy Development (Bioeconomy Corp).
Bioeconomy Corp said the competition is open to participants aged 7 to 30 and will be carried out in phases, starting at the school level.
It will continue with zonal screenings across six main regions and progressing to the national finals, which is scheduled to take place in November.
"The competition format combines practical challenges, real-world technology exposure and experiential learning.
"The initiative also includes inclusivity, an effort on widening access and equity by reaching underserved communities and remote areas through targeted outreach initiatives," the agency said.
Teacher training sessions will also be conducted to equip educators with knowledge of current technologies to integrate and can be embedded into daily education to help bridge the educational gap nationwide.
Bioeconomy Corp said Malaysia Techlympics 2025 marks a pivotal step in nurturing future-ready talent and driving a culture of innovation that will shape the nation's STI landscape for generations to come.
"Recognising the crucial role of Artificial Intelligence in the future economy, Malaysia Techlympics 2025 will introduce more AI-focused competitions and activities, encouraging future generations to explore and develop expertise in this critical field."
Additionally, several selected competitions offer opportunities and exposure for students to gain global exposure and represent Malaysia on the world stage.
Aligned with national and global priorities through support for the National STI Policy 2021-2030, Malaysia Techlympics aims to build high-impact local technological capacity.

MABIC boosts STEM literacy in Tamil schools nationwide
BANGI: The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Literacy Empowerment initiative for Tamil National-Type Schools (SJKT), known as Ariviyal Ainthiram, implemented by the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC), has benefited nearly 79,000 students from 525 SJKTs nationwide. With an allocation of RM698,227 from Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), Ariviyal Ainthiram focuses on raising awareness and interest among SJKT students in STEM. MITRA Special Task Force Committee chairman, P. Prabakaran, said MABIC had received the MITRA grant to implement various STEM-related programmes, including science quiz competitions and the publication of the Petri Dish science newspaper, which was also distributed to all 525 SJKTs. 'The programme, known as 'Ariviyal Ainthiram,' is implemented in two components, running from October 2023 to July 2025. The first component involves the distribution of Petri Dish newspapers, which include a special Tamil-language insert focused on STEM literacy. 'The highlight of this programme is the 'Who Wants to Be a Scientist' competition, held today, featuring 90 top students selected from over 2,000 participants nationwide for the science quiz. The final round was conducted in an interactive format and judged by academic experts from several local universities,' he said. He said this to reporters after attending the final round of the 'Who Wants to Be a Scientist' competition at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) here today. According to Prabakaran, the Ariviyal Ainthiram's success also reflects the capability of grant recipients who adhere to the application guidelines and implement the programme in line with the specified requirements. 'Many have failed to secure the MITRA grant because they did not follow the basic guidelines. However, MABIC has proven that when the application process is done correctly and the programme is implemented effectively, the results can be very impressive,' he said. Meanwhile, MABIC executive director Dr Mahaletchumy Arujanan expressed her appreciation to MITRA for the allocation, which has enabled MABIC to implement the STEM literacy programme for the target group. 'MABIC not only aims to deliver the newspaper to Tamil schools, but we also want it to be read and fully utilised. From there, we hope it will spark greater interest in STEM and encourage students to seek out other STEM-related resources. That is MABIC's main goal. Anwar arrives in Brazil ahead of BRICS Summit
RIO DE JANEIRO: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in Brazil to attend the 17th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government, which will be held from July 6 to 7. The special chartered Malaysia Airlines flight carrying him and his delegation landed at the Galeao Air Force Base in Rio de Janeiro at 5.40am local time (4.40pm Malaysian time). Anwar, who flew in from Paris after completing a two-day official visit to France, was welcomed by Malaysia's Acting Head of Mission in Brazil, Datuk Mohammad Ali Selamat, and Brazil's Secretary for the Promotion of Trade, Science, Technology, Innovation and Culture, Laudemar Goncalves de Aguiar Neto. Anwar is scheduled to deliver two country statements during the summit. Ali had previously said that both of Anwar's speeches will reflect Malaysia's commitment to strengthening multilateralism and amplifying the voices and interests of developing nations — in line with the core objectives of BRICS 2025. Meanwhile, during his visit to Rio de Janeiro, Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, is scheduled to hold a business meeting with Brazilian multinational aerospace company Embraer. Anwar's delegation includes Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, as well as senior government officials and representatives of Malaysian companies. Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Brazil rose by 14.6 per cent to RM20.35 billion (US$4.38 billion) in 2024, up from RM17.43 billion the previous year, maintaining Brazil as one of Malaysia's key trading partners in Latin America.
