#SHOWBIZ: Irfan to star with 'Thalapathy' Vijay in Tamil movie

ACTOR Irfan Zaini has marked another milestone in his career, securing a role in Indian film "Jana Nayagan", directed by H. Vinoth.
The Tamil-language action-thriller will see Irfan sharing scenes with Indian actor Vijay.
For Irfan, whose full name is Muhammad Irfan Mohamed Zaini, the opportunity to work with Vijay — affectionately known as Thalapathy, meaning leader — is a dream come true.
Recounting how the role came about, Irfan, 30, said that Vijay himself played a crucial part.
Their good relationship, forged during the success of last year's film "The Greatest of All Time" (GOAT), proved instrumental.
"While on the set of GOAT, I asked Vijay if it was going to be his last film. He mentioned that there might be another film after that.
"As a fan, I asked him how one would go about getting a role in such a script.
"But I made it clear: 'Please don't suggest my name to the production. I just want to know the right path to get an offer, like whom to contact or how to get an audition.'
"Vijay gave me his manager's number. A few days later, I messaged him."
Irfan, known for his role as Malik in " Blood Brothers: Bara Naga", credits his performance for leading to an invitation to India.
"As soon as GOAT was released, I got a message from Vijay's manager asking me to go to India.
"After that, he asked me to visit an office and meet Arvin, the assistant director of 'Jana Nayagan'.
"Arvin took my number and photo, and I did an audition. They gave me a filming date and discussed my payment."
While Irfan remains tight-lipped about his character until the script is released, he said that his role in "Jana Nayagan" is larger than his previous appearances in foreign films.
"I'm grateful for this offer because it gives me the chance to act alongside big names in the film industry there, such as Vijay and Bobby Deol."
Irfan, also known for the 2023 Tamil drama "Manmadha Bullets", believes he is among the few domestic actors to share a film set with a Indian star in a long time.
"I think the last time a Malaysian actor worked with a Indian star was Datuk Adi Putra in 'Don 2' with Datuk Shah Rukh Khan. After that, it's me.
"I feel proud and grateful for this opportunity. I also can't wait to show Malaysians what I've done."
Irfan hopes that his dedication will boost support for the domestic film industry.
"I hope that from now on, Malays will watch more Tamil stories, and Tamils will watch more Malay stories.
"When I saw so many people supporting 'Blood Brothers', it showed it can be a bridge between the two communities.
"I feel proud because I can unite the two groups."
Irfan is completing 'Jana Nayagan' in India, which began filming in stages last November.
The film, starring Vijay, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol, is slated for release on Jan 9 next year.
The film is expected to be Vijay's final acting role before he dedicates himself to politics.

Singer Azza screams to ward off scammers

FORGET about polite refusals or simply hanging up, a singer revealed her unconventional tip to get back at scammers by screaming hysterically when she receives such calls, Kosmo! Online reported. In an Instagram post, Noor Azzarima Zawari, 48, better known as Azza, advised the public to be cautious of online scams. Azza, who is also a member of the 1990s girl band, Elite, shared a recent experience where a scammer posing as a representative from Touch 'n Go, tried to trick her. Touch 'n Go later clarified in Azza's comment section that they never use personal numbers or ask users to click on suspicious links. 'This is my way of raising awareness for all of us,' said Azza. 'Be careful and don't give anything the scammer asks for. You'll only end up losing your money.' > The financial struggles of a widow in Dungun, Terengganu, have pushed her to dip into her eldest daughter's education loan just to buy household necessities. Kosmo! Online reported that the mother of three fell into financial hardship when her husband, who was the family's sole breadwinner, died two years ago after a fall while cutting down a tree. While her 19-year-old eldest daughter is currently studying in Kuantan, her 16-year-old son has taken on odd jobs like harvesting oil palm fruits to help out. The Great Inflatable Dome of China: 50m-high bubble blocks dust and noise from construction site

A giant inflatable dome has been erected over a worksite in Jinan in eastern China. - Photo: Mao Ning Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson/Facebook BEIJING: Who says construction can't be clean or stylish? A giant inflatable dome has been erected over a construction site in eastern China, in what may be the country's puffiest solution yet to keeping dust and noise pollution down. Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, shared in a Facebook post on July 2 that Jinan in eastern China has introduced a 50m-high inflatable dome covering 20,000 sq m, which is reportedly the largest of its kind worldwide. An accompanying video on the post shows the large balloon-like structure enclosing the construction site. Mao said the dome aims to reduce noise and pollution, helping to protect nearby communities and the environment. According to Times Now News – an English-language news outlet based in India – which reported on the project on July 3, the dome is the first of its kind in China and uses negative pressure and air filtration systems to prevent dust from escaping into nearby areas. The Bridge Chronicle, a digital news platform, also reported on July 3 that the dome features advanced ventilation systems to ensure good air quality inside it, while transparent panels let in natural sunlight, cutting down on the need for artificial lighting during the day. The platform added that the dome's design allows for quick assembly and dismantling, making it a flexible solution for various construction projects. A viral TikTok video posted by British broadcaster ITV News on July 4 shows the dome being inflated, gradually taking on its tent-like shape as the sun rises and sets in the background. The video shows the dome nestled among several buildings, suggesting the site is in a developed urban zone. The time-lapse clip has since attracted more than 2.6 million views. Viewers of the TikTok video left some colourful and curious reactions. Karmic Kayda joked: 'This is really dangerous because if it gets too big it becomes really soft and a giant might see it and come to take a nap.' TikTok user Amely praised the innovation as 'such a clever way to protect both the environment and the people living nearby'. Meanwhile, a user by the name of ThingsRickAstlyWontDo was curious about the scale of the project, asking: 'How does one even manufacture a single sheet that large?' - The Straits Times/ANN
