Strategy (MSTR) Is Interesting, but MSTY Is Better
But here's the thing: If you want regular cash flow and a steady stream of high monthly income, those capital gains aren't going to help you. You will only generate income if you sell the stock.
Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue »
As an alternative, you could invest in the YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF (NYSEMKT: MSTY). This exchange-traded fund (ETF) generates monthly income for investors using options tied to Strategy stock. There's a lot to unpack, so let's take a closer look.
What is MSTY?
The YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF is an investment product that offers extreme exposure to Strategy stock. You can think of it as a "1-stock ETF," except that you don't actually own the underlying stock in the ETF. Instead, the ETF generates income by selling (i.e., "writing") call options on Strategy stock.
This income for the investor is measured in terms of distribution rate. This refers to the income generated by the ETF as a percentage of its net asset value. The higher the distribution rate, the more money you receive. Right now, the distribution rate of MSTY is 93%.
That's much higher than the distribution rates of other popular YieldMax ETFs. For example, the distribution rate of the YieldMax ETF for Tesla stock is 59%. The distribution rate of the YieldMax ETF for Apple stock is 32%.
This high distribution rate is the result of a nifty feat of financial alchemy that uses derivatives (i.e., options) to transform a non-yield-bearing asset (MSTR stock) into a yield-bearing asset (the MSTY ETF). In short, you're able to generate a yield from Strategy stock, even though it pays no dividends to investors. That's Wall Street magic.
What are the trade-offs involved?
As you might have guessed by now, there are some trade-offs involved. After all, on Wall Street, there is no such thing as a free lunch. So, in exchange for giving up some of the high upside potential of MSTR stock, you get a steady monthly income. The strategy is designed to work best when the price of MSTR is not expected to soar dramatically in value.
This is very important to keep in mind, since Strategy is highly leveraged to the price of Bitcoin. If the price of Bitcoin surges in value dramatically, then you could be losing out on some of the potential upside of holding MSTR stock. Yes, you will still be generating income and earning a regular yield via the ETF, but it might leave you feeling a bit disappointed, since you do not own shares in the company.
On the other hand, if the price of MSTR does not surge in value or falls only slightly, you should come out ahead, because people will still be buying call options on that stock. Thus, you will still be earning income.
As YieldMax advises potential investors, this ETF product is best for those who are neutral to moderately bullish on Strategy, and who want monthly income and regular cash flow. It should be used for diversification purposes, and should not compromise a significant portion of your overall portfolio.
Caveats about options
Before investing in the YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF, I would highly advise becoming familiar with call options, just to understand how they behave under different scenarios. At the very least, you should familiarize yourself with basic option payout charts.
This YieldMax ETF employs a covered call strategy, meaning any call option is written against a stock that is already owned. Technically, this YieldMax ETF employs a "synthetic" covered call strategy, since it uses a combination of different options to simulate a covered call position, without actually owning the underlying stock.
As an investor, all of this happens behind the scenes, and you don't need to know anything about options for the strategy to work. So, even though this might sound incredibly complex, YieldMax does all the heavy lifting for you.
At the end of the day, if you're hunting for some extra monthly income and are excited about generating some yield from an investment that normally does not offer any, then the YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF could be worth a closer look.

City and police association reach new collective agreement
An Edmonton Police Service shoulder badge in Edmonton on Tuesday, Aug 1, 2023. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jason Franson After nearly two years of negotiating, the city and the Edmonton Police Association (EPA) have finalized a new collective agreement. The previous agreement expired on Dec. 17, 2023. 'This agreement acknowledges the crucial work that EPA's 1,800-plus members, who are all sworn, uniformed officers, do every day to keep our communities safe,' said city manager Eddie Robar in a statement Friday. The four-year agreement that runs until Dec. 26, 2027 will include a 3.5-per-cent wage increase for 2024, a 3.75-per-cent wage increase for 2025 and 2026 and a 3.4-per-cent increase for 2027. 'This vote is a strong affirmation of the priorities our members identified and the value they place on being heard,' said EPA president Curtis Hoople. Other parts of the agreement include a new personal spending account, coverage for glucose monitoring devices and 'other monetary and non-monetary items,' according to a joint statement from the city and the EPA

Real estate expert says it's a ‘great time of entry' for homebuyers in the GTA
The average price of a home in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) fell more than five per cent in June compared with a year earlier, according to new data released Friday, and conditions favour buyers looking to enter the market, an expert says. 'Housing prices have gone down, which means that they're more affordable of course, so I think (when you look at) the overall environment, it's actually a great time of entry for buyers,' Cailey Heaps, president & CEO of the Heaps Estrin Real Estate Team, told BNN Bloomberg on Friday. The average GTA selling price fell 5.4 per cent year-over-year last month to $1,101,691, according to data from the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB). The composite benchmark price, meant to represent a typical home, was down 5.5 per cent. Overall home sales in June were also down compared to a year earlier, TRREB said, however seasonally adjusted home sales were up more than eight per cent from May, as the market 'continued to show signs of recovery.' The sluggishness in the housing market throughout most of the first half of 2025 didn't come as a surprise to Heaps, who said economic and political uncertainty at home and abroad kept many potential buyers on the sidelines. 'The first and second quarters of this year have been marked by so much geopolitical uncertainty that a lot of people took a 'wait-and-see' approach,' she said. 'So, there was still inventory coming to market but there was a lower absorption rate, so of course that's going to push pricing down. So, in short, I was not surprised, but we are starting to see some positive signs in the market.' The board said on Friday that a trade deal with the U.S., as well as further interest rate cuts from the Bank of Canada, would go a long way in aiding the recovery of the Canadian housing market. 'We've been in an environment where there's been so much uncertainty, be it the political situation with the U.S., our own election, and then of course the developments overseas... it's been one issue after another that's caused people to just want to pause and watch the market,' Heaps said. 'So, if we could have a trade agreement in place with the U.S. that provided some certainty, I think that would certainly help with consumer confidence.' Interest rate cuts would also 'fuel the market,' Heaps said. The Bank of Canada has held its overnight interest rate steady at 2.75 per cent for two consecutive decisions, following seven straight cuts from the central bank dating back to June of last year. Heaps noted that despite the need for more cuts eventually, the rate environment remains a declining one. 'We are more affordable than we have been for many years,' she said.

March of Dimes Canada Flags Harm to Injured Workers as WSIB Strike Disruption Grows
Article content TORONTO — The Ontario Compensation Employees Union (OCEU/CUPE 1750) is responding to a letter received today from March of Dimes Canada (MODC) — a leading national charity supporting people with disabilities — highlighting the growing consequences of the ongoing WSIB lockout. Article content In the letter addressed to OCEU President Harry Goslin, MODC outlines major disruptions to critical services for injured workers since the WSIB locked out its frontline workforce on May 21, 2025. These include: Article content A complete halt in Employment Placement Service referrals from WSIB between May 20 and June 16, 2025 — with only limited referrals resuming since. Suspended clinical assessments and coaching services, impacting people facing barriers to work due to health conditions, physical impairments, and psychological changes. Delays in plan approvals, extension requests, and invoicing, due to the unavailability of WSIB staff to provide necessary direction. Article content MODC noted, it typically receives at least 40 employment referrals per month, all aimed at helping injured workers regain financial independence and reduce reliance on WSIB benefits. The organization also conducted nearly 600 clinical assessments last year. Many of these services are now stalled, despite MODC staff being ready and willing to deliver them. Article content Crucially, MODC called on the WSIB, the union, and the Government of Ontario to prioritize a resolution that restores services and protects the well-being of injured persons. Article content 'We thank March of Dimes Canada for stepping forward and naming what we've been hearing from workers, service providers, and employers across the province — the lockout is creating real consequences for people who rely on WSIB to rebuild their lives,' said Harry Goslin, President of OCEU/CUPE 1750. 'The longer this goes on, the more harm is being done. It's time for action.' Article content The union continues to call on WSIB leadership and the Ontario government to act urgently. More than 3,600 frontline WSIB workers remain locked out, with unresolved issues around workloads, stagnant wages, and the outsourcing of Ontario jobs at the heart of the dispute.
