This Airline for Dogs (and Their Humans) Is Expanding Flights Across the U.S. and Europe

A "dog-first" airline is soaring to new heights, expanding its routes as it celebrates carrying over 1,000 dogs (and their owners) more than a year after it launched. Bark Air first got its start in May 2024 with service from the New York area to Los Angeles and London. Since then, the carrier has expanded to Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Seattle, Florida, and San Francisco as well as started offering the ability to book private or shared charters with other dog owners looking to travel to a new destination in style. 'When we launched Bark Air last year, our goal was to challenge the norms of dog travel by creating an experience that treats dogs not as cargo, but as VIP guests,' Matt Meeker, the co-founder and chief executive officer at Bark, said in a statement. 'One year later, we're proud to have delivered on that promise, offering thousands of dogs and their humans a stress-free, joy-filled way to explore the world together. This milestone is a testament to our unwavering belief that dogs deserve better—and our commitment to building a dog-first future doesn't stop here. We're just getting started.' Bark Air operates a fleet of primarily Gulfstream G4 and G5 aircraft complete with comfortable seating, amenities like calming aids and treats, and plenty of space for dogs to roam. Dogs are served "their beverage of choice" during ascent and descent "to prevent ear discomfort commonly caused by change in cabin pressure," according to the company. And as a bonus, there may be a few "special surprises" along the way. While the carrier provides perks and convenience, it can be pricey. One-way tickets for one dog and one human average $8,900 on routes from New York to London, for example. Flights also operate at staggered schedules, generally flying every two weeks. The airline is dedicated to dogs, but said other beloved pets like cats or birds may be welcome to board. However, non-dog companions must remain in a carrier at all times for their safety. The airline also requires dogs to be leashed during the walk from the terminal to the aircraft, and during taxi, takeoff, landing, or if turbulence is expected—similar to humans wearing seat belts. But once the aircraft is at a cruising altitude, owners have the option of removing the leash. The airline is owned by the company Bark, which also sells BarkBox toy and treat subscription packages for dogs.

This Is the No. 1 'Feel-good' Destination in the U.S.—and It Has Gorgeous Beaches and Endless Sunshine

We've only got a few more magical weeks of summer left in 2025, so it's key to soak in and enjoy every minute. And the best place to do just that is in one sunny, West Coast city. In early June, BetMGM Casino released its list of the best "feel-good" cities for summer as part of its seasonal city entertainment analysis. The list ranked 15 popular U.S. cities based on a handful of key metrics that make a destination fun, including the number of outdoor dining venues available, the number of nature trails, ice cream stores, dog parks, swimming pools, wellness events, sunshine hours, summer temperatures, and the number of live music events scheduled between June and August 2025. After reviewing all the available information, Los Angeles was named the No. 1 feel-good city in the nation. "Los Angeles, famous for its gorgeous beaches, Hollywood stars, and palm trees, is the ultimate destination to take in some feel-good vibes this summer," the findings revealed. "You only need to glimpse the city to see its beautiful mix of urban city, greenery, and sandy beaches." The team noted that Los Angeles offers travelers pristine summer weather, thanks to its average temperature of 73.4, and with 986 hours of sunshine throughout the season. It's also a great place to find a little zen thanks to its 240 wellness facilities, including yoga, dance classes, and Reiki sessions. "This city offers plenty of swimming pools for those particularly warm days, and hundreds of parks to explore with an ice cream," it added. "It's no wonder L.A. ranks first on this list. The city is set up to feel like a California dream." However, East Coasters aren't far behind on the fun, with New York City ranking as No. 2 on the list. "America's most famous city is best known for its iconic landmarks, food, and entertainment. While it's a huge hotspot for tourists during Christmas, it's also a fantastic city vacation spot for summer, filled with activities and healthy living," the team stated in the findings. They also noted that the city ranked so highly thanks to its "fantastic amount of summer-friendly facilities for its incredible population size of over 8 million people." It too has plenty of sunshine over the season, 800 hours in total, and "is fantastic for exploring over 304 miles of nature trails, and has 107 ice cream stores within 1 mile of the city's very center." Joining these two at the top of the list is Chicago at No. 3, followed by San Diego and Denver, rounding out the top five.
