2-3% working professionals return for PG after job stint

Mangaluru: A growing number of working professionals in Mangaluru, are taking a break to return to campuses to pursue their post-graduation. This trend, once mainly associated with MBA/MCA aspirants, has spread to other professional and allied health sciences courses.
Educational institutions have noted that there is a slight increase in enrolment of those returning after gaining industry experience to upgrade their academic qualifications. Currently, the number of those returning to campus for post-graduation is around 2% to 3% on campus.
Dr Alwyn V D'Sa, registrar of St Aloysius (deemed to be university), noted a shift in academic timelines among students. "There was a time when students were expected to complete both, UG and PG by the age of 23.
But students are choosing to work after their UG before returning later, for their post graduation. Those who come back after gaining work experience often have an edge. They are not only more aware of their strengths and interests but are also better paid, even if their academic scores aren't the highest.
Many change their field of study entirely, after spending time in the industry. What was once common for MBA or MCA courses is now seen across disciplines," he said adding that this trend mirrors a growing adoption of Western academic culture, where students work and later complete higher studies.

Dr Sunitha Saldanha, dean at Yenepoya School of Allied Health Sciences, said, "I always wished that, especially in courses like allied health sciences, students would return for higher education only after gaining valuable work experience or a long internship. On our campus, we have around 3% of such candidates who returned to studies after work experience," she said.
Dr Vijay Kumar M, vice-chancellor, Yenepoya (deemed to be university), however, said that the medical field is seeing a reverse trend where UG students soon after completing graduation, want to crack NEET-PG or related entrance examinations and rush to postgraduate courses. "Earlier, those who completed MBBS would work for a few years and later go to postgraduate studies."

Karnataka's movie ticket price cap: Movie goers may have to pay just Rs 200; how it will hit multiplex chains like PVR-Inox

Karnataka cinema houses may have to implement major cuts in ticket prices as the state government is looking to introduce a price cap. The state government on Tuesday released a draft notification proposing a uniform cap of Rs 200, taxes included, on movie ticket prices across all theatres and multiplexes, according to an ET report. While this move could bring big relief for moviegoers, it will likely hit major cinema chains, including PVR-Inox, the report said. The southern state is a key market for PVR-Inox, accounting for 215 out of its 1,743 screens, roughly 12.3% of its national presence. Karnataka also contributes around 8% to Hindi box office earnings and 10% to overall revenue, according to Karan Taurani, media executive vice president at Elara Capital, told ET. PVR Inox will be affected as the average ticket price in the state currently hovers around Rs 260, and the proposed cap would mean a nearly 30% price cut. Taurani said that in case the move is implemented, it could bring down the movie house's consolidated average ticket price by 3.7%, dent headline revenues by 2.2% and reduce EBITDA by 1.8% over FY26–28. The impact would be felt most sharply in Bengaluru, where premium formats such as IMAX and 4D often charge weekend prices of Rs 600 to Rs 1,000. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo A flat cap of Rs 200 could delay the return on investment for these high-end formats and deter further expansion in premium cinema offerings. 'Since distributor revenue is linked to net ticket collections, a 30% price cut would directly impact exhibitor earnings, especially in premium malls where high rentals and reduced ticket pricing may raise the occupancy breakeven threshold above the current ~18–20% per show,' Taurani was quoted as saying. As a result, operators may be forced to depend more on food and beverage sales to stay profitable. The draft rule, which follows a similar announcement in the March 2025 state budget, will now go through a 15-day public feedback window. The government will consider objections and suggestions before deciding whether to finalise the rule through a gazette notification. This isn't the first time Karnataka has tried to regulate cinema pricing. In April 2017, a similar ceiling was introduced but challenged in court. In 2021, the Karnataka High Court partially sided with theatre owners, allowing premium pricing for luxury formats like IMAX and recliner screens, the report said. This time, however, the draft does away with all such exemptions, suggesting a flat rate across all screen types and formats. 'While the government's intent is to make cinema more affordable and promote local language films, historical trends indicate that content quality plays a more critical role in driving footfalls than ticket pricing,' ET cited the executive. He also expects theatre chains to push back, possibly through legal action. Meanwhile, investor sentiment reflected the brewing concerns. Shares of PVR-Inox dipped nearly 1% in early trade on Wednesday on the BSE, touching a day's low of Rs 972.50, well below its 52-week high of Rs 1,748.25. AI Appreciation Day: Celebrating innovation and impact

AI Appreciation Day , observed annually on July 16, celebrates the transformative power of artificial intelligence in shaping our world. From enhancing healthcare diagnostics to streamlining business operations, AI drives efficiency and innovation across industries. This day honors the researchers, engineers, and visionaries who advance AI technologies, making life more connected and insightful. It's also a moment to reflect on ethical AI development, ensuring inclusivity and fairness. Here's what some industry leaders have to say on AI's contributions and potential: Anand Mahurkar, CEO & Founder of Findability Sciences On AI Appreciation Day, we celebrate the incredible strides AI has made in reshaping industries and enhancing daily life. While the challenges of coding complexity and data volume continue to grow, the opportunities to innovate, improve efficiency, and make smarter decisions are limitless. As AI evolves, it paves the way for a brighter, more intelligent future for all. In India, we're witnessing a remarkable evolution: consumers are moving past surface-level AI toward solutions that address authentic challenges and drive meaningful improvements. Dr Tridib Mukherjee, Chief Data Science and AI Officer at Games24x7 AI is fundamentally reshaping how businesses operate and innovate within India's fast-paced digital economy. Today, embracing AI has become essential for keeping pace with evolving industry demands and unlocking new opportunities. One of the clearest signs of AI's growing influence is the wave of entrepreneurial interest in the area. Pankaj Rana, CEO, Hisense India On AI Appreciation Day, we're reminded that the true power of artificial intelligence lies not in complexity, but in its ability to intuitively simplify our lives. The best AI quietly adapts to people learning preferences, enhancing comfort, and making everyday living more efficient from behind the scenes. Parag Khurana, Country Manager, India, Barracuda Networks It is not an overstatement to say that the adoption of AI is moving at breakneck speed. The ease of using generative AI to create and enhance content is having a far-reaching impact on people's lives. AI tools and capabilities continue to evolve. Unfortunately, the AI-based tools that are powering innovation, productivity, and efficiency in business are also being used by cyber attackers to develop and scale increasingly complex, sophisticated, and evasive cyber threats. Organisations need their own, powerful multimodal AI security that can detect and neutralize AI-based attacks regardless of whether they are delivered in an image or a QR code, and even if the language and sender seem completely legitimate.
