2-3% working professionals return for PG after job stint
Educational institutions have noted that there is a slight increase in enrolment of those returning after gaining industry experience to upgrade their academic qualifications. Currently, the number of those returning to campus for post-graduation is around 2% to 3% on campus.
Dr Alwyn V D'Sa, registrar of St Aloysius (deemed to be university), noted a shift in academic timelines among students. "There was a time when students were expected to complete both, UG and PG by the age of 23.
But students are choosing to work after their UG before returning later, for their post graduation. Those who come back after gaining work experience often have an edge. They are not only more aware of their strengths and interests but are also better paid, even if their academic scores aren't the highest.
Many change their field of study entirely, after spending time in the industry. What was once common for MBA or MCA courses is now seen across disciplines," he said adding that this trend mirrors a growing adoption of Western academic culture, where students work and later complete higher studies.

Dr Sunitha Saldanha, dean at Yenepoya School of Allied Health Sciences, said, "I always wished that, especially in courses like allied health sciences, students would return for higher education only after gaining valuable work experience or a long internship. On our campus, we have around 3% of such candidates who returned to studies after work experience," she said.
Dr Vijay Kumar M, vice-chancellor, Yenepoya (deemed to be university), however, said that the medical field is seeing a reverse trend where UG students soon after completing graduation, want to crack NEET-PG or related entrance examinations and rush to postgraduate courses. "Earlier, those who completed MBBS would work for a few years and later go to postgraduate studies."

Karnataka cinema houses may have to implement major cuts in ticket prices as the state government is looking to introduce a price cap. The state government on Tuesday released a draft notification proposing a uniform cap of Rs 200, taxes included, on movie ticket prices across all theatres and multiplexes, according to an ET report. While this move could bring big relief for moviegoers, it will likely hit major cinema chains, including PVR-Inox, the report said. The southern state is a key market for PVR-Inox, accounting for 215 out of its 1,743 screens, roughly 12.3% of its national presence. Karnataka also contributes around 8% to Hindi box office earnings and 10% to overall revenue, according to Karan Taurani, media executive vice president at Elara Capital, told ET. PVR Inox will be affected as the average ticket price in the state currently hovers around Rs 260, and the proposed cap would mean a nearly 30% price cut. Taurani said that in case the move is implemented, it could bring down the movie house's consolidated average ticket price by 3.7%, dent headline revenues by 2.2% and reduce EBITDA by 1.8% over FY26–28. 'Since distributor revenue is linked to net ticket collections, a 30% price cut would directly impact exhibitor earnings, especially in premium malls where high rentals and reduced ticket pricing may raise the occupancy breakeven threshold above the current ~18–20% per show,' Taurani was quoted as saying. As a result, operators may be forced to depend more on food and beverage sales to stay profitable. The draft rule, which follows a similar announcement in the March 2025 state budget, will now go through a 15-day public feedback window. The government will consider objections and suggestions before deciding whether to finalise the rule through a gazette notification. This isn't the first time Karnataka has tried to regulate cinema pricing. In April 2017, a similar ceiling was introduced but challenged in court. In 2021, the Karnataka High Court partially sided with theatre owners, allowing premium pricing for luxury formats like IMAX and recliner screens, the report said. This time, however, the draft does away with all such exemptions, suggesting a flat rate across all screen types and formats. 'While the government's intent is to make cinema more affordable and promote local language films, historical trends indicate that content quality plays a more critical role in driving footfalls than ticket pricing,' ET cited the executive. He also expects theatre chains to push back, possibly through legal action. Meanwhile, investor sentiment reflected the brewing concerns. Shares of PVR-Inox dipped nearly 1% in early trade on Wednesday on the BSE, touching a day's low of Rs 972.50, well below its 52-week high of Rs 1,748.25. Cabinet approves Rs 24,000 crore for PM Dhan Dhaanya Yojana: Here's all you need to know about it
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) for a six-year period starting 2025-26, with an annual outlay of Rs 24,000 crore. The programme will be implemented across 100 districts and is expected to benefit 1.7 crore farmers by converging 36 central schemes aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and resilience. What is PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana? The scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2025–26, draws from the Aspirational District Programme framework and is the first of its kind focused exclusively on agriculture and allied sectors. The number of districts per state will be proportionate to the share of net cropped area and operational holdings. Institutional framework and monitoring Three-tier committees will be established at the national, state, and district levels to oversee planning, implementation, and monitoring. A District Dhan-Dhaanya Samiti, which will include progressive farmers, will prepare and finalize the District Agriculture and Allied Activities Plan. These district plans will be aligned with national goals related to water conservation, soil health, natural farming, and self-reliance in agriculture. Progress will be tracked monthly across 117 key performance indicators via a digital dashboard. NITI Aayog will provide regular guidance and review district-level plans, while Central Nodal Officers will monitor on-ground implementation. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, 'PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will augment post-harvest storage, improve irrigation facilities, and enhance farm productivity.' The official press release added, 'As the indicators of these 100 districts improve, the national indicators will automatically show an upward trajectory.' The programme is aimed at value addition in agriculture, creation of local livelihoods, and supporting the goal of self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat).
