One wounded, attacker killed in Jerusalem stabbing: Israeli police
Israel's first responders, the Magen David Adom, said they had 'treated at the scene and evacuated' the 25-year-old officer to hospital.
'A short time ago, a police officer was stabbed in the Old City of Jerusalem,' a police statement said Friday night, adding the attacker was shot by officers at the scene.
In an update, the force said the officer had 'noticed the suspect and deemed him suspicious. At a certain point, the terrorist charged at the officer and stabbed him in the back with the knife in his possession.'
Another officer, along with a nearby border police officer, 'quickly responded and neutralized the terrorist. He was pronounced dead at the scene.'
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
The Magen David Adom said the wounded officer had been 'fully conscious,' adding his 'condition is moderate, and he is suffering from injuries to his upper body.'
The first responders said the attack took place by the Chain Gate, which provides access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The site is Islam's third-holiest and a symbol of Palestinian national identity.
Known to Jews as the Temple Mount, it is also Judaism's holiest place, revered as the site of the second temple destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.
Israel has occupied east Jerusalem and its Old City since 1967.

Amnesty accuses Iran of firing cluster munitions at Israel
Amnesty International said on Thursday that Iran fired widely banned cluster munitions at Israel during a war between the two countries in June, in attacks that endangered civilians. 'Last month, the Iranian forces fired ballistic missiles whose warheads contained submunitions into populated residential areas of Israel,' the human rights group said, citing new research. The organization said it analyzed photos and videos showing cluster munitions that, according to media reports, struck inside the Gush Dan metropolitan area around Tel Aviv on June 19. In addition, the southern city of Beersheba on June 20 and Rishon LeZion, south of Tel Aviv, on June 22 were also 'struck with ordnance that left multiple impact craters consistent with the submunitions seen in Gush Dan,' Amnesty said. 'By using such weapons in or near populated residential areas, Iranian forces endangered civilian lives,' said Erika Guevara Rosas, senior director at Amnesty International. 'Iranian forces' deliberate use of such inherently indiscriminate weapons is a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.' Cluster munitions explode in mid-air and scatter bomblets. Some fail to detonate on impact and can cause casualties over time, particularly among children. Neither Iran nor Israel is among the more than 100 countries that are party to the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, which prohibits the use, transfer, production, and storage of cluster bombs. Amnesty said international law 'prohibits the use of inherently indiscriminate weapons, and launching indiscriminate attacks that kill or injure civilians constitutes a war crime.' Israel and Iran fought a 12-day war sparked by an Israeli bombing campaign on June 13. Israel said the strikes were aimed at preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon — an ambition Tehran has consistently denied.

Police say 3 officers were wounded and a man is dead after a shooting in Lorain, Ohio
Three police officers were wounded and a man was killed in an exchange of gunfire early Wednesday afternoon in an industrial area of Lorain, Ohio. Elyria Police Chief James Welsh told reporters officers on patrol were ambushed by a man firing a high-powered rifle. Officers returned fire, he said. He said it is unclear if the suspect, a 28-year-old man from Lorain whom Welsh did not name, was killed by the officers or shot himself. Welsh said the man is believed to have acted alone. 'This was an ambush situation on River Bend Drive about 1 p.m.,' Welsh said. Details about a possible motive were not disclosed. 'At this point we can confirm that he's a lone gunman.' Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley said in a phone interview that Lorain officers will get counseling to help process the shooting of their colleagues. The wounded officers' names were not immediately released. Two officers were flown to a trauma center while the third was initially treated at Mercy Health-Lorain Hospital, Bradley said.

Israeli police investigate woman over suspected plot to assassinate Netanyahu
An anti-government activist in her 70s has been placed under investigation on suspicion of plotting to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, police said on Wednesday. The suspect is accused of having expressed her intent to kill Netanyahu and sought assistance from other activists to obtain weapons and gather information about the prime minister's security arrangements, police said. The National Unit for Serious and International Crime Investigations and the Shin Bet internal security agency have passed their evidence on to the State Attorney's office pending possible formal charges. Israeli newspaper Haaretz, quoting sources familiar with the case, said the woman had recently fallen ill and told people she planned to 'take Netanyahu with her.' Several people who heard her remarks contacted police, prompting the opening of the investigation. She was arrested around six weeks ago and has been released to house arrest. Haaretz said the woman, who comes from Tel Aviv and was not identified, was suspected of wanting to target Netanyahu with an explosive device or rocket-propelled grenade. In 1995 the then Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was killed by a right-wing extremist opposed to his peace efforts with the Palestinians. In 1957, Israel's first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, narrowly escaped a grenade attack by a mentally ill man.
