Why Business Performance Begins with Right Device

Home » Expert opinion » Why Business Performance Begins with the Right Device Mohit Bector explains how choosing the right device can elevate business performance by improving efficiency, security, and team productivity. The world is now driven by technology, and having the right laptop could mean having a competitive edge. This is more than just having a high-end, expensive laptop for daily tasks, but the right device that can deliver the output needed in the most efficient way possible. Workers also agree on this point, with 76% saying that having the right technology tools directly impacts their productivity. Having the right hardware also determines how fast teams can operate and how safe their data is, which overall shows how competitive a company can be. What's evident is that no matter what the industry, having the right device isn't always a priority and is treated as a simple routine IT procurement. This mindset has to change, and businesses should know that their success is influenced by the hardware they use. Speed Matters A survey among 1,000 office workers showed that up to 40 minutes of productive time per day is lost due to slow or outdated technology. Businesses often have this mentality that any laptop can still be used as long as it turns on, while ignoring how slow it performs. A slow or lagging laptop can disrupt operations and is likely the cause of delays. With one in five employees considering leaving their current jobs due to inadequate technology, it is a risk that businesses shouldn't disregard. In the education industry, for example, having a great working laptop means a smoother multitasking experience that can help students and educators to be more productive. The same goes for businesses, where having the right laptop can effectively streamline workflows. The right laptop isn't just there to support the work, but it should help accelerate it. With this in mind, businesses should identify devices that have the proper components that they need. Having a top-of-the-line CPU, GPU, or SSD isn't the only aspect to be considered. They should identify how these components will aid their workflow. It may seem to be much work, but it will be beneficial in the long run. Keeping It Secure We've seen countless businesses go through various security breaches over the years, and the common culprit is almost always weak hardware security. A whopping 80% of security breaches are caused by phishing and misuse of credentials. Many organizations often focus on security on a software level, but usually ignore the role of hardware-level security. A couple of years ago, a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), biometric authentication, BIOS-level protection, and physical camera shutters were seen as premium add-ons, but today these should be base requirements on any device being used in a business environment. Given that 60% of businesses close within six months of a cyberattack, businesses should invest in devices with hardware-grade security, especially if they are dealing with sensitive and confidential data. One Size Doesn't Fit All Each industry has its own demands, so getting a device with a proper feature set can greatly benefit those who will use it for its purpose. In design, getting a laptop with a high-resolution display is recommended, while an ultraportable laptop with a slim design and great battery life would suit users who are always on the move. Effective device strategies mean aligning with the team's specific needs. Keep in mind that it is not about purchasing expensive hardware but getting the right one that can handle business needs. Think Beyond the Price It is common for businesses to look for cheaper alternatives when choosing laptops for their team, but they also forget that these decisions can be expensive over time. Hardware and software issues that require repairs and upgrades all add up, sometimes costing more than the original price. It is advisable to look beyond the price and see how it will benefit the business in the long run. Buying a laptop that costs $1000 could offer years of great performance, compared to a cheaper $500 laptop that could run into problems after a short while. Any business today is considered a digital business. The device being used by the team is more than just a computer with a screen and a keyboard because it is the tool that will make the business succeed. It's a launchpad for how they will create an impact through productivity and creativity. Business performance does not just lie with the right people, but with the right device as well.
