Our contributions to this ecosystem affirm that Bow Valley College is a catalyst for innovation and growth,' said Dr. Misheck Mwaba, President and CEO of Bow Valley College.

'The launch of Bow Valley College's Production Hub marks another major step forward in building out Calgary's Digital Entertainment Nexus and cementing our position as a global player in the creative economy. With support from the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, it's unlocking new opportunities for creators, companies, and innovation to thrive right here in Calgary. Production Hub features
The soundstage includes a large wrap-around screen – or volume wall – that allows characters to interact with virtual environments.
Motion capture (mocap) records movements and applies them to a 3D model. Its availability fulfills a need in the local gaming, animation, film and television industries. Sports teams also use mocap to improve player performance. The addition of this technology is thanks – in part – to an Applied Research Tools and Instruments (ARTI) grant.
A post-production/incubation space provides room to develop content, collaborate, and create special effects.
The dailies room is decked out with sound and color calibration tools to review and adjust a project as it is being filmed. We are the only studio in Calgary with an immersive audio sound room, and one of just a few in Canada.

Domestic Trade Ministry to expand digital monitoring to ensure 60,000 tonnes of subsidised cooking oil reach target groups, says Armizan

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali today said the ministry is prioritising efforts to ensure the effective distribution of 60,000 metric tonnes of subsidised cooking oil each month reaches its intended recipients without leakage, before considering alternative subsidy mechanisms such as cash transfers under the SARA programme. He explained that the ministry began implementing its digital monitoring system in 2023 to track the movement of subsidised oil from packaging plants to retailers. However, the current system does not yet monitor purchases at the consumer level. 'To address this, KPDN will expand the system starting in 2025 through the rollout of eCOSS mobile application, currently being piloted under the Rahmah Sales Programme. 'This app will be integrated with data from the National Registration Department (JPN) to identify legitimate buyers and prevent purchases by ineligible groups, such as foreign nationals,' he said during the debate on the Auditor-General's Report in Parliament today. The ministry said the system will enable the government to collect detailed data on who is buying the subsidised oil, where it is being bought, and in what quantity, allowing for more accurate assessment of subsidy beneficiaries and better targeted policies. He said the government previously had no clear data on who was actually using the subsidised packet cooking oil, but with the eCOSS system and new mobile app, it will soon be able to identify subsidy recipients more accurately. In response to Pulai MP Suhaizan Kayat, the minister said that although 3.16 million households need only around 20,000 tonnes of cooking oil monthly, the 60,000-tonne allocation also covers small traders, restaurants, school canteens, hostels, and care centres. 'The original 2016 estimate of 40,000 metric tonnes, based on 1.5kg per capita, was later revised to 60,000 metric tonnes to accommodate these broader usage patterns. 'It was also noted that in 2022, even the then prime minister (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) acknowledged that enforcement should not be taken against small food vendors using subsidised oil,' he explained. This, he said, reflects how the programme has expanded beyond household use in practice. He then said KPDN remains committed to curbing leakage, preventing misuse and smuggling, and ensuring that subsidies reach the people who truly need them.

Next K-pop movie hit? Hybe, Paramount set 2027 release for film shot entirely in South Korea

SEOUL, July 23 — Hybe America and Paramount Pictures have reportedly announced they will co-produce a K-pop-themed feature film set for theatrical release in early 2027 According to The Korea Herald, the companies said the film will follow a Korean American teenager who auditions for a reality TV competition in hopes of joining a K-pop girl group, going against her family's wishes. Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-September and will take place entirely in South Korea, reportedly making it the first major Hollywood studio project to be shot exclusively in the country. Yoo Ji-young and Eric Nam have reportedly been cast in the lead roles, with Korean American director Benson Lee attached to helm the production from a script by Eileen Shim. 'This film is my love letter to K-pop — a world filled with energy, passion, magic and an incredible community of support,' Lee was quoted as saying. James Shin of Hybe America, Arthur Spector and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine, and Hybe board member Scooter Braun will reportedly serve as producers, while Paramount Pictures' senior vice president Bryan Oh was said to be overseeing the project. To note, Hybe is the South Korean entertainment company behind popular groups such as BTS, Seventeen, NewJeans and Enhypen.

QuickCheck: Did Gordon Ramsay almost become a pro-footballer?

GORDON Ramsay's success has turned him into a household name, most notably known for his foul-mouthed meme-worthy rants, superb culinary skills and top-watched reality cooking shows. However, Ramsay's gastronomic empire would not have existed as it wasn't his first career choice. Did the world-famous celebrity chef almost become a world-famous football player? Verdict: TRUE Life would be a very different kind of sandwich for him if it weren't for unfortunate football injuries. They say that every cloud has a silver lining, for Ramsay, it must have been a very thick lining. At 15, a young Gordon Ramsay started his football journey at Oxford United before being spotted by a scout employed by Scotland's most titled club – the Rangers. A few years later, the aspiring footballer received an offer from the Glasgow-based club. For the uninitiated, this wasn't a small feat as the Rangers Football Club is one of the most successful and storied football teams in the world. Ramsay's path to football stardom was clear as day, but fate had other plans. In 1985, after being marked with injuries including damaged knee cartilage and torn cruciate ligament, the promising player had to end his pursuit in football. Ramsay was forced to re-think his future and went back to school, earning a degree in hotel management in 1987. And the rest was history. "I was a naturally aggressive left-back, a cut-throat tackler... You may have got past once but there was never, ever, ever a second occasion," Ramsay once told the Observer Sport Monthly. "And I was fast, I was a great 100m sprinter. If you were to compare me to anyone, I guess it could be Stuart Pearce," he said. Despite him giving up on his pursuit to play professional football, Ramsay still plays the beautiful game now and then, such as becoming a regular participant in Soccer Aid and other charity events. His cooking career has gone on to achieve tremendous success, earning him US$62mil in 2018 according to Forbes. That's behind only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. Not bad for a second-choice career!
