CAIRO/WASHINGTON, July 31 (MENA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty had talks on Thursday with US State Secretary Marco Rubio on means of promoting bilateral ties. The two sides also exchanged views on various regional and international issues of mutual interest. Abdelatty conveyed greetings and appreciation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to US President Donald Trump, highlighting Egypt's pride in the longstanding strategic partnership with the United States. The minister said he is looking forward to continuing close coordination and cooperation with the US administration to further ties politically, militarily, economically, and security-wise, thus contributing to regional security, stability, and peace during this critical stage in the Middle East. He also expressed desire to continue holding regular rounds of the Egypt-US strategic dialogue. They reviewed ways to strengthen economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries. Abdelatty praised the results of the Egypt-US business forum held in Cairo in May with over 50 American companies participating, 12 of which entered the Egyptian market for the first time, reflecting Egypt's commitment to attracting investments and enhancing economic partnerships with the US. Both sides stressed the importance of continuing coordination for new rounds of the joint economic commission meetings and the business forum to broaden economic partnership opportunities. The two sides also reviewed the latest regional developments, topped by the catastrophic situation in Gaza, tragic events in Sudan, and conditions in Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and the Egyptian water security issue. Regarding the Palestinian cause, Minister Abdelatty reiterated the necessity of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza to stem bloodshed and ensure humanitarian aid flows amid the enclave's dire conditions under the Israeli blockade. He emphasized the need to adopt a political horizon for a just and sustainable settlement of the Palestinian cause, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borderlines with East Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital. He expressed hope for continued close US-Egypt cooperation to establish just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the two sides reviewed the situation in Sudan and underlined the importance of ceasefire and humanitarian aid access. Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for Sudan's state institutions and respect for its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Regarding Egyptian water security, Minister Abdelatty conveyed Egypt's concerns about Nile water issues and the importance of adherence to international law regarding shared water resources. He highlighted the need for cooperation to swiftly reach a legally-binding agreement on the operation of the Ethiopian dam, rejecting unilateral Ethiopian actions violating international law. SCZone Chief Lays Foundation for Two New Chinese Textile Projects Worth $55 Million
Taarek Refaat Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for two new Chinese textile projects in the industrial developer 'TEDA–Egypt' zone in Ain Sokhna, marking a fresh wave of foreign investment into Egypt's manufacturing sector. The projects, with combined investments exceeding $55 million, are set to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, while strengthening Egypt's presence in global textile supply chains. The first project, led by Bridge-Tex, involves the construction of a fully integrated textile complex on a 40,000-square-meter plot. With an investment of over $25 million, the facility will house 18 spinning lines, more than 100 fabric production lines, and six printing and dyeing lines. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to produce 25 million meters of high-quality fabrics and 105,000 tons of fibers annually, generating around 500 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs. The second project, developed by F-TEX International, will be built on 55,000 square meters with 60 production lines for drawn textured polyester yarn (DTY). The $30 million facility is projected to reach full operational capacity by late 2027, with an annual production target of 130,000 tons and 400 direct jobs, contributing an estimated $150 million in annual export revenues. Gamal El-Din emphasized that these projects reflect growing international investor confidence in the SCZONE and the success of the partnership with TEDA–Egypt. He highlighted ongoing talks with Chinese partners to allocate an additional 10 km² for industrial development, following the near-completion of earlier expansion phases. 'These projects will not only add significant value to the local economy and create jobs, but also enhance Egypt's industrial integration and global supply chain competitiveness,' Gamal El-Din said, noting that SCZONE attracted $8.6 billion in investments across 297 projects over the past three years, including $4.4 billion in the last fiscal year alone. Representatives from both companies highlighted the export-oriented nature of the projects, with 80% of output destined for U.S. and European markets. Bridge-Tex expects annual sales of $120 million, with $100 million in foreign currency inflows, while F-TEX executives framed the project as a symbol of Sino-Egyptian textile cooperation, combining Chinese technology with Egyptian labor to achieve sustainable growth. Egypt, U.S. FMs Discuss Strategic Partnership, Regional Crises in Washington
Nada Mustafa Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington to discuss ways of strengthening the close bilateral ties between Egypt and the United States (U.S.), as well as to exchange views on several regional and international issues of mutual concern. Durong their meeting, Abdelatty conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to President Donald Trump, affirming Egypt's pride in its longstanding strategic partnership with US. Moreover, he expressed Egypt's keenness to continue close coordination and cooperation with the U.S. administration under President Trump's leadership to deepen the partnership in political, security, military, and economic spheres, especially during this critical period for the Middle East. He also reiterated Egypt's interest in resuming the U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue on a regular basis. Both ministers explored avenues to boost economic, trade, and investment cooperation. In this regard, Abdelatty praised the outcomes of the Egypt-U.S. Business Forum held in Cairo last May, which saw the participation of more than 50 American companies, including 12 firms entering the Egyptian market for the first time. This, he noted, reflects Egypt's commitment to attracting foreign investment and enhancing economic partnerships with the United States. Furthermore, the two ministers emphasized the importance of continuing coordination to convene a new round of meetings for the Joint Economic Commission and another edition of the Egypt-U.S. Business Forum to expand bilateral economic cooperation. The talks included extensive discussions on urgent regional developments, foremost among them the catastrophic situation in Gaza, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and ongoing challenges in Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and Africa, as well as concerns related to Egypt's water security. On the Palestinian issue, Abdelatty reiterated the necessity of reaching a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He emphasized the importance of ending bloodshed and ensuring the sustained flow of humanitarian aid into the besieged territory, which is suffering from a deliberate Israeli starvation policy. He also called for urgent action to address the worsening humanitarian crisis and stressed the need to revive a political horizon for a just and sustainable resolution to the Palestinian cause. This includes restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. In addition, Abdelatty expressed hope for continued close collaboration with the U.S. administration to lay the foundation for comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East that serves all peoples of the region. Regarding Sudan, the two ministers discussed the importance of securing a ceasefire and facilitating humanitarian access. In the same context, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for Sudanese state institutions, emphasizing respect for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. As for Egypt's water security, Abdelatty conveyed Egypt's concerns over the Nile River issue and reaffirmed Egypt's position that any agreement must comply with international law governing transboundary water resources. He stressed the urgent need to reach a legally binding agreement regulating the operation of the Ethiopian dam and rejected Ethiopia's unilateral actions, which violate international norms.
