US Teacher Gets 30 Years In Jail For Sexual Abuse Of 2 Minor Students
Prosecutors said Ma groomed the 12-year-old boy over 10 months, sending him love letters and suggestive texts, which prompted the boy's mother to alert authorities. She sexually assaulted him in her classroom over three months while his parents believed he was in an after-school basketball program. They also alleged that years earlier, Ma groomed an 11-year-old boy. She had groomed young boys with "gifts, food and special attention and even completed their homework for them," the district attorney's office said.
The teacher pleaded guilty in February to two counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, one count of lewd acts on a child and one count of possessing child sexual abuse material, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office said in a news release.
"This defendant violated the trust she had with her students in the most extreme and traumatic way possible, and her actions are despicable. Her victims will have to deal with a lifetime of negative effects, and her 30-year sentence is appropriate," District Attorney Summer Stephan said.
"No child deserves what this defendant did, and I hope this sentence brings a measure of justice to the victims, their families and the community that was left reeling from this defendant's crimes," Mr Stephan added.
At her sentencing, Ma expressed remorse, stating she was "deeply ashamed" and apologised for taking away the children's innocence, acknowledging the harm her actions had caused.
"I abused my authority, I exerted my power and control over them, and I deceived them. Boys this age should be playing outside, feeling carefree … I ripped away their childhood. Instead of following the path of what a teacher should be, I let my selfishness override the boys' best interests. I just pray for an extra hand of protection and strength for all of those I've hurt. I'm so sorry," Ma said while handcuffed and crying in court.
Ma, a former San Diego County "Teacher of the Year" for 2022-2023, taught fifth- and sixth-graders at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City before facing controversy.

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday ordered the police to investigate the attack on a local salon in Vikarabad town and provide protection to its owner, who allegedly faced stiff opposition from residents to run his business as he does not belong to the Mangali barber community. Further, to ensure the petitioner can conduct his business without fear, the court mandated specific protective measures for one month. This includes maintaining a 'point book' at the salon for one month to make sure the police regularly check in. 55-year-old man gets life term for impregnating teen
The Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act here has awarded life imprisonment to a person for impregnating a teenage girl. According to prosecution, M. Zahubar Hussein, 55 of Udangudi in Thoothukudi district, who is now living at Burkitmanagar near Palayamkottai, impregnated a 17-year-old girl. She gave birth to a baby boy. Based on the complaint from the victim's family, Tirunelveli Rural All Women Police registered a complaint against Zahubar Hussein under the POCSO Act and arrested him. DNA tests were conducted to confirm the paternity of the baby. Special Court Judge Suresh Kumar awarded life imprisonment to Zahubar Hussein on Tuesday and slapped a fine of ₹25,000 on him. The Judge also directed the government to give ₹5-lakh compensation to the victim.

Church Street vendors demand an end to harassment
The street vendors of Church Street on Monday held a silent protest on the street against the alleged harassment they are facing from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bengaluru City Police. The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the BBMP Joint Commissioner, East Zone with their demands. 'The rich are allowed to park their car for free on Church Street, but poor street vendors are being levied with a penalty of ₹500. This is a violation of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014,' the protesters said. They added, 'BBMP has only given us ID cards and they also gave loans to street vendors. Now why is the same BBMP harassing street vendors? Is there no space for poor street vendors in Brand Bengaluru?' The memorandum submitted by the Karnataka Pragathipara Beedi Vyaparigala Sangha said that from 15 to 20 years, 53 authorised street vendors, many of whom are women from poor families, have been selling items like clothes, fruits, plastic items, earrings etc. It also alleged that residents' associations from the locality have pressured the police to harass the vendors. The vendors also demanded that a formal order should be issued to prevent harassment of all registered Church Street vendors and all the unregistered vendors should also be included in BBMP's next survey and provided with vending certificates. They also said that Town Vending Committee (TVC) meetings should be held before making decisions affecting them. The protesters were taken into preventive custody by the police as they were walking to the BBMP and were released after three hours.
