Charming town in Majorca is a 'must-visit' and you can there by vintage train

Daily Mirror15 hours ago
Majorca is known for its beaches, nightlife and sunny weather, but one woman decided to try something a little different by riding a vintage train through the Spanish island
Majorca is one of Spain's stunning Balearic Islands, renowned for its pristine beaches boasting crystal-clear waters, secluded coves, and vibrant nightlife scenes, particularly around hotspots like Palma and Magaluf. The island's sunny and warm climate consistently attracts British tourists seeking the perfect European summer getaway.

Lauren Jade abandoned life in the UK to embrace full-time travelling and is currently exploring Majorca in Spain. She documents her journeys across social media platforms and has created detailed travel guides to help fellow adventurers in planning their overseas escapades. The 30-year-old Brit recently shared a TikTok video showcasing an experience her viewers might not have discovered.

Lauren brought her viewers along as she went on a journey aboard a historic wooden train from Palma to Sóller.

She was completely mesmerised by the breathtaking scenery throughout the hour-long ride, including views of the magnificent Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.
At the beginning of the video, the globe-trotting content creator appears completely stunned as she gazes through the carriage window, with her mouth open and a hand pressed against her cheek.
In her post's caption, she penned: "Majorca's BEAUTIFUL train ride. This is the Palma to Sóller train and it traverses through the incredible Serra de Tramuntana mountains, citrus groves and tunnels carved by hand."

Lauren captured the spectacular scenery as she travelled past the towering peaks and green woodlands, absorbing nature's magnificence.
The railway's official website characterises the journey as "an hour-long journey that takes you to another time and another Majorca".
The travel influencer continued: "It's a 1-hr journey on a vintage wooden train that has been running since 1912(!) and it's still one of the most scenic ways to explore inland Majorca.

"It's perfect if you're not renting a car as Sóller is one of the MUST visit places in Majorca you simply can't miss.
"It drops you right in Sóller town - where you can explore and then hop on the vintage tram to Port de Sóller (which I highly recommend)."

Sóller sits near Majorca's north west coastline and is frequently dubbed the 'Valley of the Orange Trees' thanks to the stunning citrus orchards that surround the town, forming a significant part of both its heritage and economy.
The town is also well-known for its centre, boasting beautifully maintained historic buildings and the charming heritage tram that Lauren highlighted.
According to the official website, the Palma to Sóller train features lacquered wooden floors, walls and ceilings, alongside traditional sash windows, ornate gilded light fittings and leather-and-metal seating.

Passengers can adjust their seat positioning to face either towards or away from their travel companions, depending on the journey direction.
First-class carriages offer enhanced luxury with comfortable sofas replacing standard seating.
Lauren advised her TikTok followers to choose the left-hand side when departing Palma for the "best views."

She also suggested purchasing tickets in advance online, warning that services become particularly crowded during the summer months.
The video has attracted more 60 comments, with one user, a seasoned visitor to Majorca, confessing: "Wow I didn't know about this and have been so many times!".
They continued: "Defo on my list Thanks for sharing." Another user enthused: "Absolutely one of my favourite trips! Should be on everyone's list to visit."
A joint ticket for the journey from Palma to Sóller by train and then tram to Puerto de Sóller is priced at €32 (£27.68) and is available for purchase online.

Spanish 'hidden gem' holiday spot not many people know about has 'best beaches'

The beautiful spot dubbed a 'hidden gem' is a perfect mix of city and beach - and has a lot less tourists. One individual said it's their 'favourite place' but not many know about it With summer upon us, countless holidaymakers are planning getaways and outdoor adventures to capitalise on the sunny season. Whilst Britain boasts numerous beautiful destinations, it's no secret that our weather remains unpredictable - swinging between scorching 30C heat and torrential downpours. Therefore, heading abroad virtually guarantees sun-soaked days. ‌ Spain remains a firm favourite amongst Brits, but instead of flocking to well-trodden destinations like Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, Benidorm and other hotspots, this overlooked gem reportedly delivers an ideal blend of urban culture and coastal relaxation - with significantly fewer crowds. ‌ The holiday destination in question is Santander, situated in Spain's Cantabria region. This coastal city sprawls across an expansive bay featuring numerous spectacular beaches, rolling hillsides and breathtaking panoramas. Visitors can also enjoy abundant restaurants serving fresh seafood alongside a bustling shopping district along Alameda de Oviedo Boulevard. ‌ Plus, the city boasts a laid-back vibe and feels considerably more tranquil than other Spanish destinations. Culture enthusiasts can explore arts and history at Centro Botin - a contemporary art gallery - or embark on guided tours of the historic Magadelna Palace dating from the early 20th century. ‌ Interesting tidbit: the renowned Santander bank derives its name from this very city, having been established there. Recently, one traveller called Ali, who goes by @aligoingabroad online, posted about her Santander experience and hailed it as her "favourite hidden gem". Ali stated: "Stop going to tourist spots in Spain and got to this hidden gem. Spaniards say it has the best beaches in Spain." She highlighted that there are numerous beaches suitable for swimming and water sports. ‌ Enumerating her favourite aspects of Santander, she continued: "The city is beautiful, extremely cheap accommodation, escalators around the city so you don't have to walk up steep hills. Did I mention beautiful beaches? You'll have a new sunset spot everyday. Quiet areas with no tourists." She also pointed out that the food is affordable and there are stunning hiking trails. ‌ "I love Santader," chimed in one person. Another expressed: "Santander has my heart. I lived there last summer studying Spanish at UIMP [Universidad Internacional Menendez Pelayo." Another individual shared: "Studying abroad here now and falling in love with the city." While someone else labelled it as their "favourite place in the world". An additional visitor to the location commented: "Not only is Santander incredible, but the whole region of Cantabria. Really recommended and it's quite small so it's very easy to drive to places." After viewing the clip, another person declared: "You have fully convinced me to go there." One can take a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander, or fly to Bilbao. From there, a train or bus journey to Santander takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes. Driving or taking a taxi will take around an hour and 26 minutes.

British tourist on holiday in Cyprus branded 'disrespectful' as she moans about the 'awful' local cuisine served at her all-inclusive hotel

A self-professed 'picky eater' has divided opinion after giving a less than favourable review of the buffet at her all-inclusive hotel. Simone Wilko, who is from the UK, was holidaying in Cyprus with her mother and boyfriend last week when she decided to share what she had for lunch. The 19-year-old was left unimpressed by the selection of local food - especially at the 'awful' range of vegetables. Simone eventually opted for two pitta breads, some meat and a plate of chips - making sure to avoid any fruit or veg, or anything with seasoning. But after she posted her findings to TikTok, which racked up more than 800,000 views, people were left baffled - even saying she had been 'disrespectful', while others said her eating habits resembled that of a child. As she filmed the stuffed zucchini with vegetables, Simone said in her video: 'There was so much to choose from, but at the same time there wasn't. I understand that I'm in a different country, but what on earth are these foods? 'They look absolutely awful, I'm not going to lie. I couldn't think of anything worse.' Filming the traditional black eye beans with Swiss chards, she said: 'What on earth is this.' Moving onto the pizza counter, she was presented with a 'pizza quattro formaggi' - pizza with four cheeses. Simone said: 'I was actually getting excited thinking this was Margherita pizza, but it wasn't, it had something under it and it was weird cheese.' In the end, she opted for two pitta breads as it's 'just plain bread', adding a scoop of chips, pork stirfry and BBQ ribs, which she 'has at home'. However, she confessed that if they'd had herbs on, it would have been a different story as she 'doesn't like the taste' of seasoning. With the pork, she only managed two tiny slithers of meat as some of it was covered in onions. 'It didn't really work and it was horrible anyway. It had this weird seasoning on, and I do not like seasoning,' she said. She was also tempted by the chicken, but noticed it was 'pink' near the bone and decided to swerve it. Luckily, she was more enthusiastic about the desserts on offer and said they were 'delicious looking', helping herself to some chocolate crunch cake, although she said her coco pops dessert was 'disgusting'. People were left baffled at Simone's selection from the buffet and thought she should have been more adventurous. They said: ''Picky' she means she doesn't like anything healthy or green'; ''What on earth are these foods' and it's literally just vegetables'; 'I thought people ended this phase when they turned like eight'; 'Instead of going abroad maybe try Cornwall babes x'; 'Fellow lowkey picky eater here but there's a difference between you and me - I don't go round being disrespect about food saying they "look awful" and "taste disgusting".' 'I'm a very picky eater but this seems disrespectful.' However, others came to her defence, writing: 'I'm not a picky eater but that food doesn't look very appetizing.' In another video, Simone revealed the contents of a full day of eating while on holiday, opting for a bowl of plain yoghurt and a croissant for breakfast. To drink, she had a glass of apple juice and a chocolate milkshake, followed by a diet coke. For lunch, she had a hot dog and chips, which even had a small salad on the side. For dinner, she picked the meat out of a stew - making sure to avoid the onions and vegetables - again adding some chips, and cucumber this time. For dessert, she chose brownies with custard. It comes after a woman has divided opinion on social media after demonstrating a savvy tactic to make the most out of the hotel breakfast buffet whilst on holiday. Nicola Lewis, a 'decluttering and organising expert' from Essex, the UK, regularly shares travel tips and money-saving hacks with her 210K following on Instagram. In a video uploaded to her page @thisgirlcanorganise in June, she shared her top 'strategy' for tourists holidaying at all-inclusive resorts or half-board accommodation. Many hotel breakfast buffets offer salads, cold meats and cheeses alongside traditional staples such as pastries, cereals and hot dishes. Though the specific selection can vary by hotel, it's common to be offered a range of cold meats, such as ham, turkey, tuna or salami, as well as fresh vegetables like rocket, tomato, red onion and cucumber. According to Nicola, these options can double-up as a handy takeaway option for a lunchtime meal away from the hotel. In the clip, the content creator arrived at the buffet at an undisclosed hotel and sliced some bread from a seeded loaf, before moving on to the salad bar. She scooped a generous portion of tinned tuna onto the bread and topped the sandwich off with rocket and sliced cucumber. Taking her plate to an outdoor seating area, Nicola proceeded to neatly pack her lunch into Tupperware she had brought in her bag, before exiting the buffet to begin her day. In an accompanying caption, she wrote: 'There is nothing wrong with rustling up your lunch from the hotel brekkie buffet - it's what I call budget chic and organised realness! It saves a small fortune - more pennies for cocktails!' She advised hotel guests to arrive at the buffet armed with a collapsible container and a washable sandwich bag to store in their room fridges. Nicola added: 'You're posh, practical, and planet friendly. Just a little old skool tip from me to you... now strut into that day fully fed and fabulous! And it's not stingy, it's STRATEGY!' The cost-conscious Brit assured her followers that after checking with hotel management, she was 'allowed' to leave the premises with her packed lunch. The clip, which has since amassed over 45,000 likes and almost 2000 comments, has left viewers divided - with many accusing the holidaymaker of being 'cheap' and 'greedy.' One person wrote: 'You have paid for breakfast. Not lunch. Hotel within rights to charge you for additional breakfast.' Another outraged holidaymaker: 'Yup, another entitled traveller stealing.. so wrong.. you should be ashamed.'
