Oklahoma Sooners running back room among the best in the nation
Pro Football Focus college football analyst Max Chadwick believes the Sooners have one of the top 10 running back rooms in the nation going into 2025.
It starts with Ott. He had a 1,300-yard season back in 2023 and has the game-breaking ability to create big plays for the Sooners' offense. The running back workload won't be completely on Ott as Oklahoma brings back Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson, and Taylor Tatum as well.
Barnes had 700 total yards and six touchdowns for the Sooners last season. His effort and energy gave Oklahoma a boost in the second half of the season, leading the way for an offense that was mostly stagnant last year. The Sooners have high expectations for their second-year running backs Xavier Robinson and Taylor Tatum. Both showed flashes of being big-time producers at the collegiate level despite an offensive line that struggled for much of the 2024 season.
Then there's true freshman Tory Blaylock, who was a four-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. He's just a true freshman, but his speed, agility, and balance could force the Sooners to put him on the field.
Fall camp is going to provide some interesting competition for the running back hierarchy, but it looks like DeMarco Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of talent to work with.

Kirk Herbstreit has high praise for one of Notre Dame's potential starting quarterbacks
While he's often impartial with Notre Dame, that doesn't seem to be the case with Kirk Herbstreit and one of the potential starting quarterbacks. In a post shared by FootballScoop's John Brice at the Personnel and Recruiting Symposium, the former Ohio State quarterback and current ESPN analyst loves what he has seen from CJ Carr. Herbstreit said 'there's something about this CJ Carr. I'm super-high on him.' It's great that a national voice has high hopes for one of the potential starting quarterbacks, as Kenny Minchey is still battling Carr for the spot. It's pretty obvious from what we have seen that the second-year player has a much higher ceiling than his counterpart. Head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock have both been non-committal to either one of them, as the competition continues on this fall. They'll eventually have to pick one, and if Herbstreit has his way, it will be Carr that gets the nod. Three Auburn Tigers named to Bruce Feldman's 'Top 101 Freaks List'
Three Tigers have caught the eye of Bruce Feldman early. A trio of Auburn Tigers have landed on college football insider Bruce Feldman's 'Top 101 Freaks List' for the 2025 college football season. The list, which Feldman created in 2005, "chronicles the strongest, fastest and most physical players in college football." Auburn defensive end Keldric Faulk (No. 9) was the lone Tiger represented among the top 50 players. The Tigers dynamic receiving duo of Cam Coleman (No. 52) and Eric Singleton Jr. (No. 73) rounded out the representation from Hugh Freeze's squad. A team caption in 2025, Keldic Faulk is coming off a breakout season as a sophomore on the Plains. His 7 sacks landed just outside of the top 10 among pass rushers in the conference while he finished second to only Jalen McLeod (8) on the team. With a trio of multi-sack games included a two-sack effort against Georgia, Faulk catapulted himself into the first round conversation in 2026 NFL mock drafts. Feldman listed Faulk's 80 total tackles through two seasons as a major reason he landed in the top 10, as well as the fact the 6-foot-6, 285-pound edge rusher can squat 700 pounds this offseason and bench press 415 pounds despite the fact he is yet to turn 20 years old. Sophomore pass catcher Cam Coleman received the honor as the best offensive player from Auburn ranked on Feldman's list. The Phenix City, Alabama native struggled to stay on the field during the former half of his first college football campaign, but exploded in the second half, securing 6 touchdowns and over 300 yards in his final three games. While the 6-foot-3, big-body receiver was outshined by fellow freshman pass catchers Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams, Coleman showed the promise that made him a five-star recruit just a short year ago. Along with his statistics from a year ago, Coleman's 23 mph top speed is considered truly elite. The final Tiger represented in Feldman's rankings has yet to play a significant snap on the Plains. Transfer pass catcher Eric Singleton Jr., who accumulated 9 touchdowns and just under 1,500 receiving yards over two seasons with Georgia Tech, was ranked at No. 73 by Feldman for one main reason. Speed. As the insider writes, "Pound for pound, the former 5-10, 180-pound Georgia state champion in the 100, 200 and 400 meters is very strong." There is no denying Hugh Freeze has talent on his squad heading into the 2025 campaign later this month. With a pair of freak playmakers on the offensive side of the ball and one of the best pass rushers in the country, the Tigers have the athletes to keep themselves in any contest this season. Whether that talent translates into tallies in the win column remains to be seen. Highlights from Texas A&M's 5th preseason practice on Monday night
Texas A&M's fifth practice of the preseason took place on Monday night, as several players, mainly on offense, stood out, including freshman wide receiver Jerome Myles, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed and likely backup signal caller Miles O'Neill worked on 15-to-20-yard passes, both performing above average, which is expected during any practice. Yes, even in the NFL, quarterbacks don't always connect on deep passes, which was the case for both Aggie QBs during the extended throwing session. Still, this was an early throwing session that should not be taken too seriously, knowing that several receivers were jogging at the end of their routes. Moving on, progress has been made, and the position to note from Monday is tight end. While it's predicted that Alabama/Texas transfer TE Amari Niblack will win the starting job due to his receiving ability, we can't out redshirt junior Theo Melin Öhrström, who has continued to progress as a route runner after making several impressive touchdown grabs last season, but was not consistent enough, including dropping a key pass during A&M's 4OT loss to Auburn. Don't forget about freshman TE Kiotti Armstrong, who has already turned heads this preseason. Another tight end transfer that should make an immediate impact in the run game is Nate Boerkircher, who, despite not bringing in a ton of production through the air, could surprise if given the chance. Still, the focus was mainly on the revamped wide receiver room, led by five-star freshman Jerome Myles.
