Inter Milan have made Cristian Chivu their new coach.
While the 44-year-old has a long association with the Nerazzurri from his playing days, he is nevertheless something of a surprise name to replace Simone Inzaghi.
Chivu has also coached Inter at various youth levels, with a fair bit of success.
However, the Romanian only has a grand total of thirteen matches of senior coaching experience under his belt. Therefore, his appointment certainly constitutes a risk for Inter.

'Chivu does this job with passion and competency,' he said. 'He was fortunate to be a part of great dressing rooms like that of the Treble, so he knows what it means to be an Interista.'
'For me, he comes into the job with the right experience.'
'He waited too long before going to Parma, in my opinion,' Materazzi then said.
'But then he proved his value there by doing very well to keep the team up.'
'Now he has a great opportunity. It's right that he has that desire to bring home something big, both for his own career and for us Interisti.'

Tim Howard: USMNT's 'hard truths' must be faced for a World Cup run
Tim Howard had just completed a comeback. When the legendary United States men's national team goalkeeper recently spoke to The Post, he was wrapping up an appearance on behalf of Airbnb, which has a three-year partnership with FIFA to support accommodations around the recently completed Club World Cup, next summer's World Cup in North America and the 2027 Women's World Cup. Howard — the 46-year-old New Jersey native who tops goalies with 121 career appearances for the USMNT and who played professionally for the likes of Manchester United and Everton — led a training session 'experience' for select participants, which ended with instruction on penalty shootouts. 'It was the first time since I retired that I actually got in goal and dove around,' Howard said. 'I tried. I was actually OK.'

Brighton's Estupinan closing on AC Milan switch
Brighton defender Pervis Estupinan is close to completing a move to Italian giants AC Milan. The Serie A side have been pushing to sign the Ecuador full-back for most of the summer and have already had one bid turned down. However, an agreement is close to being concluded that would allow Estupinan to move to the former European champions. Brighton were hoping to get around £17m for the 27-year-old, whose current contract expires in 2027. Estupinan came to England in 2016 when he joined Watford but never played a senior game for the club. Instead, he made his name in La Liga with Villarreal and was part of the squad that beat Manchester United in the 2021 Europa League final. He has made more than 100 appearances across three seasons at Brighton but he suffered a significant ankle injury in 2024 that caused him to miss Copa America. While talks between the clubs are still in the early stages, Fenerbahce are already negotiating personal terms with the player. Indeed, they need leverage before meeting Inter at the negotiating table. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old's silence only fuels the Turkish club's optimism.
