Suede to go: leather's hippy cousin is back for 2025

The Guardian12-04-2025
From blazers to mini-skirts and slouchy shopper bags, we're spoilt for choice in suede on the high street this year. As with most trends worth following, the provenance can be traced back to Prada and Miu Miu, the latter showing neat biker jackets and knee-length skirts styled with shirts (left) or swimsuits for summer: think fitted bodysuit with a sleek suede skirt and a minimal sandal.
The suede blazer or short jacket is an incredibly useful wardrobe addition. A blazer adds instant interest to a jeans and a T-shirt look and keeps a mini skirt look modern when worn with a chunky flat sandal or loafer. It's perfect for that in-between April weather.
There are a multitude of updated colours aside from classic camel and taupe, look for interesting shades from cognac to olive green. Whistles's western-style overshirt with tassels, crafted in a rich green (£399), works well with summer neutrals and all shades of denim, or go all-in with Zara's khaki co-ord (4, below). Meanwhile, shades of brown and tan marry perfectly with florals. Consider swapping your denim jacket with a suede overshirt, or Mint Velvet's tan classic collar patch pocket jacket (£285) that adds utility spin to a summer dress look.
Have fun exploring the vintage suede jacket market. Look for retro details featuring western style, particularly fringing and shearling finishes. Beyond Retro has a great selection of motorcycle jackets and aviator bombers to 70s belted coats, all starting from £65. Lastly, a roomy suede bag is the easiest way to wear the trend: we love Massimo's Dutti's dark green bucket bag (£169) and Sezane's camel Gabin maxi bag (£360) that doubles as a weekend or carry-on bag.

Save £50 on ‘long lasting' Issey Miyake perfume shoppers say is their ‘desert island' scent

Issey Miyake's 'long-lasting' perfume has been slashed by almost 50% from £110 to £59 with shoppers saying they love it so much they would choose it as their 'desert island' item A great perfume can be one of the most important things in your beauty arsenal, helping you feel instantly confident and put together with a single spray. Some shoppers have even gone as far as to say that they would consider one perfume in particular their 'desert island' luxury. The happy customer said: 'If you put me on a desert island and said I can have two luxuries, perfume would be one. Beautiful smell, absolutely love florals.' The perfume that's gotten such high praise is the Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Eau & Magnolia fragrance, with its fresh and floral scent being a big hit. Although usually priced at £110 for 100ml, The Perfume Shop has now slashed the price of it to £59.99, saving you £50. This price cut makes the 100ml bottle work out cheaper than the 50ml, which is still priced at £64.99 – the perfect time to get more for your money. There are also some other great perfume deals on at the moment, with Sephora offering up to 40% off its fragrances, including some big name brands like Prada, YSL and Gucci. Elsewhere LookFantastic is running a 50% off sale on selected perfumes for a limited time. You can get 100ml of Calvin Klein Eternity for Women Eau de Parfum for £44.50 down from £89, whilst the Marc Jacobs Perfect Intense Eau de Parfum has been slashed to a much more affordable price. Usually available for £71 for a 30ml bottle, it's now on offer for £35.50. The L'Eau d'Issey Eau & Magnolia however has zesty, refreshing notes combined with light florals and subtle earthy tones, making it a lovely fragrance to wear during the summer, although you could just as easily wear it year round. Those who've bought it have also said it's the perfect scent for any occasion, and can be worn both day and night. It has top notes of bergamot and neroli for that zingy, fresh scent, with heart notes of rose and magnolia to bring soft, feminine floral hints. It finishes with sandalwood at the base to give it some depth. Other reviews also praised the L'Eau d'Issey Eau & Magnolia perfume, with one writing: 'Wow. Just wow. I love it even more than expected. Everyone compliments me and asks what I'm wearing!!! Awesome!!' Another agreed: 'Sample, long lasting scent that is not too strong, it's refreshing and light.' Some weren't as much of a fan of the scent as others, with one shopper saying: 'The smell is alright, but I probably won't be getting anymore since it just really doesn't suit me. I do recommend for others try it out for themselves.' Someone else wrote: 'This smelled like your typical floral scent! Nothing special about it. Didn't last too long either. Something I would keep in the car or somewhere for a quick spritz but wouldn't be a top pick or everyday wear perfume.' However others couldn't get enough, writing: 'I really love this perfume, it is perfect for day and night and lasts a long time.'

Aldi's designer perfume dupes are back – the exact spot you need to go to & grab them for £1.99 before they sell out

ALDI has sent beauty buffs into a frenzy with posh perfumes dupes for just £1.99. The discount retailer has seriously upped its beauty game in the recent years - and their latest addition to the shelves is no exception. 2 2 A bargain hunter recently revealed Aldi has launched new mini perfumes which are said to be affordable dupes of cult favourite scents, including the viral Baccarat Rouge. The mini perfumes, priced at just £1.99, retail for just a fraction of the price of the real thing, saving cash-strapped beauty buffs a fortune. What's more, not only are they more affordable but the mini scents are also ideal for chucking in your bag - or when you go travelling for a few days. The latest drop includes Lacura Prism which is thought to be the perfect dupe for the iconic Prada Paradoxe, currently on offer for £57.60 at Boots. Prism - which customers claim is "nearly identical" to the original - is described as "delicate and light" and offers "gentle notes" of Orange Blossom, Neroli and Jasmine. It also boasts "warm undertones" of Bourbon Vanilla, White Musk, and Amber which match a rich Bergamot and Tangerine "freshness on the finish". Meanwhile, if you've been thinking of snapping up the much-loved Miss Dior perfume but can't justify spending £72, Aldi's Perfect Pink is said to be a great alternative. Similarly to its high-end sister that can retail for over £115, Perfect Pink combines delicate floral scents that's reminiscent of fresh flower bouquet - and even the baby pink bottle is almost identical, minus the signature bow. ''Aldi, you've done it again! I have no idea how Aldi keeps getting these dupes spot on, but I'm so here for it,'' one perfume whizz previously said. Last but certainly not least is a dupe of a perfume that everyone and their mum seem to be talking about - the posh £335 Baccarat Rouge. I get stopped in the street by people asking where my perfume's from - it's a dupe of a designer scent & saves me £135 Unlike the real deal, the budget-friendly version - the Cardinal Red Eau de Parfum - retails for a mere £1.99, saving you over £330. The high-end version is a favourite amongst celebs, including Rihanna and Molly-Mae Hague. And similarly the Lacura scent offers a a seamless blend of soft jasmine, sweet saffron, warm amberwood and cedar. The perfume therefore makes for the perfect spicy and floral mix that you'll find difficult to resist - and it already seems to have become a hit on social media. Here's How To Nail Summer's Hottest (And Easiest) Styling Hack

Fashion has a nasty habit of eating itself alive. One minute, it's declaring a new era of conscious consumption, the next, it's posting another 'how to style it five ways' reel that looks suspiciously like a soft launch for another micro-trend. Right now, the plat du jour isn't a cult buy, nor is it a new trend. No, the most overused concept is the styling hack. Just the other night, at a dinner party heavy on fashion people and on low carbs, no fewer than four guests had tied silk scarves around their waists in a knowing nod to Alexa Chung. Which is to say: the styling hack has supplanted the It-bag as shorthand for style fluency. And the easiest way in right now? The bandana. ©Instagram @alexachung / @haileybieber Not a new trend, but the trend before trend. Pre-dating social media, style algorithms and the tyranny of the capsule wardrobe, it's the original accessory-as-attitude. A square of cotton that suggests you might have read Joan Didion but also spent last weekend on a yacht in Palermo. You know the look: Alexa does it slouched on a speedboat, as does Hailey Bieber. Gracie Abrams is hardly ever seen without one, Timothée Chalamet tied his beneath his chin in a more peculiar way (nonetheless, he's committed), Diane Kruger wore one to fashion week, and Kylie Jenner, of course, wraps up like Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief. ©Instagram, @gracieabrams / @kendalljenner The point is: if it's good enough for them, it's certainly good enough for us. But there's a fine line between peasant-cum-riviera-chic and stroppy '90s teenager. Want to settle for the former? There are some basic bandana rules to follow and before you know it, you'll have mastered this simple styling hack (apologies), and let your sun-bleached baseball cap off on the sabbatical it sorely deserves. Sex And The City, 2003 ©Getty The key to getting it right lies in various factors: the fold (always diagonal), the size (a square somewhere around 60 x 60cm, otherwise you'll end up with too much floating fabric), where you tie it (at the back of your head beneath the hairline, or under your chin for a more traditional take), the fabric (cotton, ideally), how you keep it on (tie it tightly but also use bobby pins in an X-shape where it feels too lose, or apply hairspray just before putting it on for better grip). What else? Need to take it off for a dip into the sea? Tie it to your bag like a bag charm, or pull it through a belt loop on your trousers. You got this. 1. Miu Miu, Printed Poplin Scarf 2.
