National Anti-Terrorism Day 2025: The death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is observed as 'Anti-Terrorism Day'.
It is a national observance in India, which was initiated by the VP Singh government, in remembrance of the tragic assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, India's youngest PM, in 1991, in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.

To educate people about the negative consequences of terrorism and violence in society, it is annually observed on May 21, and this year, it will be falling on Wednesday, 21st May, 2025.
On this day, all government offices, public sector enterprises, and other public institutions organise a pledge-taking ceremony to reaffirm their commitment to combating terrorism and violence.
Furthermore, debates, discussions, symposia, seminars, and lectures on similar topics are held, alongside various NGOs' and social and cultural organisations' campaigns to emphasise the negative consequences of violence and terrorism.
The day aims to raise awareness about the impact of terrorism and violence, reiterate the importance of unity, and promote peace and harmony. It also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by victims of terrorism and the ongoing need for vigilance against extremist activities.
