Teddy Bridgewater set to return to the NFL with the Buccaneers to back up Baker Mayfield
Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said Bridgewater is visiting the team and the Bucs plan to sign him.
The Buccaneers will be the eighth team in 12 seasons for the 32-year-old Bridgewater.
Bridgewater coached his former high school in Miami to a Class 3A state championship last fall and then returned to the NFL in late December to serve as a backup to Jared Goff for the playoff-bound Lions.
He would provide insurance for the four-time defending NFC South champions behind Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers also have veteran Kyle Trask, who has thrown 11 passes in four seasons since he was a second-round pick in 2021.
Mayfield returned to practice Tuesday after missing a couple of days because of a hand contusion.
Bridgewater said last month that he was suspended from coaching Miami Northwestern High School because he provided players with financial benefits that he says he reported to the school.
'I'm not going anywhere,' Bridgewater said on social media post. 'And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem.'
Bridgewater, a first-round pick by Minnesota in 2014, is 33-32 as a starter and made the Pro Bowl after his second season when he led the Vikings to an 11-5 record. He also spent time with the Jets, Saints, Panthers, Broncos and Dolphins.
Bridgewater has completed 66.4% of his passes for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, 47 interceptions and a 90.5 passer rating.
Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard was an assistant coach in Miami in 2022 when Bridgewater backed up Tua Tagovailoa.
Buccaneers defensive line coach Charlie Strong was Bridgewater's head coach at Louisville.
Tampa Bay's quarterback room also includes Michael Pratt and Connor Bazelak. Pratt, a seventh-round pick out of Tulane by Green Bay in 2024 who signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad last August, has been sidelined by a back injury. Bazelak signed as an undrafted free agent out of Bowling Green where he spent the final two of his six college seasons.

Jayden Daniels makes prediction on Commanders teammate Terry McLaurin's future amid contract standoff
Terry McLaurin, a two-time Pro Bowler, recently asked to be traded to another NFL team. McLaurin's request surfaced after momentum concerning a potential contract extension between the wide receiver's reps and the Washington Commanders appeared to stall. McLaurin has reported to the Commanders training camp, but has not participated in practice sessions — effectively designating him as a hold-in. In a corresponding move, Washington placed McLaurin on the physically unable to perform list. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, last season's NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, shared his thoughts about whether he believed he would be throwing passes to McLaurin in 2025. "I know one day 17 will be running out here — and hopefully soon," Daniels told CBS Sports. While Daniels acknowledged Washington's front office is ultimately who handles contract negotiations, he doubled down on his optimism about continuing to be teammates with McLaurin for the foreseeable future. "I can't control what he has going on with his business or the front office, stuff like that. I got to go out there and try to be the best version of myself each and every day. I just hope one day it all gets resolved and 17 is back out here catching passes." McLaurin finished last season with a career-best 13 touchdown receptions and 1,096 receiving yards. He received All-Pro honors for the first time in his NFL career, and much of his successful 2024 campaign could be attributed to Daniels' breakout rookie campaign. In addition to NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, Daniels was also named to the Pro Bowl. Washington drafted McLaurin in the third round out of Ohio State in 2019. Aside from his rookie campaign, McLaurin has finished each of his NFL seasons with at least 1,0000 receiving yards. McLaurin inked a three-year contract with Washington in 2022. The deal is set to expire following the 2025 season.

Arizona Cardinals injury update: WR Marvin Harrison Jr. returns to practice
The Arizona Cardinals, after a day off on Sunday and a walkthrough on Monday, returned to the practice field at State Farm Stadium to prepare for their preseason opener Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. also returned to practice after sitting out three days with knee soreness. He returned with a slightly different look, as he wore a sleeve on his left leg. His return to the field at the beginning of the week more than likely means that he will be good to go and able to play in the preseason opener Saturday night. Head coach Jonathan Gannon announced Tuesday that the starters would play in the game. Harrison has been one of the standouts in training camp. Having him healthy and getting him game reps against another team should help keep the momentum moving forward.
