Take a look at Buford High School's new $62 million football stadium
Buford High School officially cut the ribbon on the new Dexter Wood Field at Phillip Beard Stadium this week. It's named after former education chairman Phillip Beard and former head coach Dexter Wood, who won three state titles.

The stadium can fit up to 10,000 fans and features 1,543 premium seats. There are also 15 suites with catering services offered and a special event room.
In the endzone, fans can look up and see the giant, 44 feet x 82 feet scoreboard.
'I can't say enough about the support that we receive from our school board and city. Having a chance to play all of our home games in a venue like this is unprecedented in the state of Georgia and most of the nation. We can't thank them enough for the opportunity to have a home game experience like this,' Buford head coach Bryant Appling said.
Buford hosts Milton on Aug. 14 for the first official game at the new stadium.

Channel 2's Candace McCowan asked Director of Athletic facilities Tony Wolfe if there were other stadiums like this in Georgia. He didn't think so and said this stadium might even be giving Texas high school football stadiums a run of their money.
Wolfe said the stadium is actually owned by the city and leased by the district.
He said the community loves this school, as demonstrated by the new expansive school across the street and other facilities like their performing arts center that's just as nice.

Zverev ignores fan distraction to advance to ATP Toronto semis
Alexander Zverev reached his 21st Masters 1000 semi-final on Monday by ending the Canadian title defence of Alexei Popyrin 6-7 (8/10), 6-4, 6-3 at the ATP Toronto Masters. The final game, with Zverev serving at 5-3, was interrupted by shouts from an unruly fan who was tossed out by security. The distraction ended a run of 14 consecutive points on serve, with the seed double-faulting once he was able to continue serving. He finished off the evening with a sharp volley winner at the net on his first match point. Zverev completed his 40th win of the year in just over two and a half hours. The world number three won the tournament in 2017 but had not been past the quarter-finals in Canada since. He will bid for the oddly scheduled Thursday final against the later winner from Karen Khachanov and Alex Michelsen. "After losing the first set, I had to tell myself we were both playing well," the holder of seven Masters trophies said. "I had one or two mistakes at the end of the first, but it was a high-level match. "I felt that if I kept playing well, I would get my chances -- and I did. I can't complain about the second and third sets." Popyrin and Zverev duelled throughout the evenly matched 71-minute opening set as it went into a tiebreaker. Zverev was unable to convert on two winning chances, but Popyrin came good on his own second opportunity with a net cord winner that caught his opponent stranded at the baseline. The German began to turn the tables in the second set, taking a 4-1 lead only to see the Aussie level at 4-all. Zverev pulled away to level the match at a set apiece, breaking for 6-4 as Popyrin sent a volley wide. The top seed began the final set with a 3-0 lead on his way into the tournament final four at the pre-US Open event. Baltimore RHP Grayson Rodriguez to have season-ending elbow surgery
PHILADELPHIA — Baltimore right-hander Grayson Rodriguez will have season-ending surgery on his pitching elbow next week. Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino made the announcement before Monday's game in Philadelphia. Rodriguez started the season on the injured list due to right elbow inflammation that flared up in spring training. A rehab outing scheduled for April 17 was canceled because of a strained lat muscle. The 2018 first-round draft pick, who missed three months of the minor league season in 2022 with a lat injury, hasn't pitched in the majors since July 31, 2024. He finished last season on the IL with a strained lat.

Red Sox ride Duran HR, strong outing from Bello to 6th straight win, beating Royals 8-5
BOSTON (AP) — Jarren Duran hit a three-run homer and Brayan Bello pitched six effective innings, helping the Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 8-5 on Monday night for their sixth consecutive victory. Rob Refsnyder drove in two runs, and Duran added a leaping, run-saving catch in front of the Green Monster in the fourth. Bello (8-5) allowed an unearned run and six hits. The right-hander has surrendered three earned runs or fewer in 13 of his last 14 outings. The Royals got back-to-back home runs from Vinnie Pasquantino and Maikel Garcia off Jorge Alcala as part of a four-run eighth. But Aroldis Chapman handled the ninth for his 21st save. Royals starter Bailey Falter (7-6) was pulled after four innings. He was charged with seven runs and eight hits. Refsnyder put the Red Sox in front with a two-run single in the first.
