Honda Says It's Forced to Kill The Civic Type R In Europe

Motor 105-06-2025
Honda is saying sayonara to the Civic Type R in Europe with a final send-off aptly named the Ultimate Edition. Sales of the Japanese hot hatch will come to an end next year on the Old Continent. Before it bows out, the compact performance car is available in any color you like as long as it's Championship White. To spice things up, red stripes accent the hood and sides, while the roof comes exclusively in black.
To sweeten the deal,
Honda
includes a carbon fiber rear wing on the Ultimate Edition. More carbon fiber appears inside, with door sill trims and a center console upgrade, while eye-catching red floor mats feature a metal Type R badge. To drive home the point that this isn't your average Civic, projectors built into the front doors display a red and white Type R logo. As a final treat for European buyers, the send-off comes with a gift box containing a carbon key ring, a numbered emblem, and even a car cover.

Mechanically, nothing changes. The Civic Type R Ultimate Edition retains its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, producing 324 horsepower and 310 pound-feet (420 Newton-meters) of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, enabling a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 5.4 seconds.
So why is the Civic Type R leaving Europe anyway? Honda says it's essentially being forced to retire the CTR. Hannah Swift, Head of European Strategy and Product, notes that 'The industry is changing, and our model range is having to evolve with it in accordance with European legislation.' In other words, stricter emissions regulations have claimed another victim.
Pricing details haven't been disclosed, but the Civic Type R is already notoriously expensive in several European markets, thanks to steep taxes on high-emission vehicles. In the Netherlands, for example, the
standard CTR is already a $100,000
+ car, before options.
While the hot hatch is on its way out, Europeans can take some solace in knowing a different kind of sporty Honda is on the horizon. The reborn
Prelude
will arrive in the first half of 2026 as a 2+2 coupe with a hybrid powertrain and simulated gear shifts. It's unlikely to match the CTR's engagement, but at least some of the fun lives on.

Ahmedhodzic's bargain Feyenoord transfer fee revealed

Feyenoord are reportedly paying just under €7 million for summer signing Anel Ahmedhodzic, according to Voetbal International. The 26-year-old defender was quickly acquired from Sheffield United on Tuesday. Ahmedhodzic has signed a four-year contract in Rotterdam and could make his debut for Feyenoord on Wednesday as the Rotterdam side face Fenerbahçe in the preliminary round of the Champions League. As VoetbalPrimeur explain, Feyenoord are doing everything they can to get the Bosnian eligible to play in the two-legged tie against José Mourinho's team. 'The club are receiving assistance from the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association) in this regard.' Feyenoord bought out Ahmedhodzic's one-year contract with Sheffield United for a transfer fee of approximately €6.9 million, VI reports. 'There is also a bonus and resale structure.' Immediately, on first viewing, this seems like a good deal, as Transfermarkt estimates Ahmedhodzic's value to be considerably higher, at 18 million euros. Ahmedhodzic had been under contract with Sheffield United since the summer of 2022, having signed from Swedish club Malmö for approximately €4.5 million. He made 114 appearances for the English club, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists from defence. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield

Cummins CEO Highlights Secular Growth In Power, Cautions On Truck Market Weakness

Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI) stock is trading higher on Tuesday after it reported second-quarter 2025 results that beat Wall Street expectations for both earnings and revenue. Strength in its Power Systems and Distribution segments offset declines in other markets. The company posted diluted earnings per share of $6.43, surpassing the $5.10 analyst estimate. Revenue for the quarter was $8.60 billion, beating the $8.43 billion consensus. Sales fell 2% year-over-year as North America declined 6%, while international sales rose 5% on higher demand in Europe and China. Also Read: Net income attributable to Cummins was $890 million, or 10.3% of sales, up from $726 million, or $5.26 per share, in the prior-year period. EBITDA for the quarter rose to $1.6 billion, or 18.4% of sales, compared with $1.3 billion, or 15.3%, a year ago. Power Systems led segment performance with sales rising 19% to $1.9 billion. North American revenue grew 23%, while international sales rose 16%, driven by demand in data center and mission-critical markets. Distribution revenue increased 7% to $3.0 billion, as North America rose 9% and international sales climbed 4%, largely due to increased demand for power generation products in the U.S. The Engine segment reported $2.9 billion in sales, down 8% year-over-year. North American revenue declined 8%, and international revenue fell 7% due to lower on-highway demand in the U.S. and Mexico. Components revenue declined 9% to $2.7 billion, with North America down 15% and flat international sales. View more earnings on CMI Accelera, Cummins' zero-emissions segment, saw sales fall 5% to $105 million due to reduced electrolyzer installations. The company reaffirmed its commitment to long-term investments under its Destination Zero strategy. Operating cash flow for the quarter was $785 million. Cummins ended the period with $2.32 billion in cash and cash equivalents and $6.81 billion in long-term debt. On July 15, the company increased its quarterly dividend from $1.82 to $2.00 per share, payable Sept. 4, 2025, to shareholders of record as of Aug. 22, marking 16 consecutive years of dividend growth. CMI also introduced the S17 Centum generator set, capable of producing up to 1 megawatt in a compact footprint for use in healthcare, water treatment, and commercial sectors. 'We see a contrast across our markets with robust demand for power generation equipment supported by clear secular drivers, and our more economically sensitive markets, such as truck, where end-user confidence has declined,' commented Chair and CEO Jennifer Rumsey. 'This contrast will become even more pronounced in the second half of the year as North America truck build rates decline sharply, starting in the third quarter,' he added. Amid ongoing economic and regulatory uncertainty, the company said it will not reinstate a full-year revenue or profitability outlook at this time. 'Our diversified portfolio, disciplined cost management and strong execution have enabled us to navigate recent industry challenges. However, persistent economic and regulatory uncertainty continues to impact a number of our key markets and cloud our near-term outlook for both business and market performance,' stated Rumsey. Price Action: At last check Tuesday, CMI shares were trading higher by 6.15% to $383.83.
