Students in remote Telangana village tap AI tools to broaden knowledge
T-Fiber, the state's flagship programme, aims to provide affordable, high-speed broadband connectivity to every household. As part of its Proof of Concept rollout, Adavi Srirampur is one of four pilot villages experiencing the transformative power of digital inclusion.
A video recently shared by the T-Fiber team features students at the Adavi Srirampur school using Perplexity.ai, an AI-powered research assistant, to ask questions, clear doubts, and explore topics beyond their textbooks through voice-enabled queries. The video drew praise from Perplexity Co-founder and CEO Aravind Srinivas, who reposted it on social media platform 'X', noting: 'It is great to see schools in India having their students learn with Perplexity as a tutor. Our founding mission is to make the world's knowledge accessible, and I'm glad it's having its impact.'
Responding to the post, IT Minister D Sridhar Babu recalled his meeting with Srinivas in August last year and reaffirmed the government's commitment to technological equity.

The Indian Army has always been brave and powerful, but now it wants to replace its old tanks with new ones that can deal with today's dangers like battles in the mountains and attacks from drones. To help with this, Russia has offered to team up with India to make a special version of its T-14 Armata tank which is one of the most advanced tanks in the world. But the plan isn't just to buy these tanks. The goal is to build them here in India, using local factories and talent. T-14 Armata tank features The T-14 Armata tank is designed to work with Artificial Intelligence (AI) so it can watch the battlefield, spot danger, and even respond to threats quickly, all on its own. This makes it perfect for modern wars, where smart weapons and drones are used a lot. One of the most unique things about this tank is its unmanned turret, which means no one sits in the rotating gun part. Instead, the three crew members sit safely inside a heavily protected cabin in the main body of the tank. This new design keeps the soldiers away from danger and makes the tank much safer than many older tanks that India currently uses. The T-14 weighs 55 tons and can work even in extremely cold places, down to -50 degree celsius which makes it ideal for India's difficult border areas like Ladakh, Siachen, and Arunachal Pradesh, where temperatures get very low and terrain is tough. The T-14 tank comes with a powerful 125mm gun that can fire regular shells as well as laser-guided missiles. This means it can accurately hit enemy tanks, bunkers, and even drones. Russia believes the T-14 is a strong choice for India's Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV) program, which is looking to replace the old T-72 tanks that have been used for decades. Since India's own Arjun tank hasn't been brought into the Army in large numbers, the T-14 might be a better, more advanced option. This tank also comes with special tools to watch and scan the battlefield, which would help India deal better with modern threats like suicide drones and smart bombs. Russia to build T-14 tank together with India This project might include DRDO's Combat Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), which already works on military vehicles. India already puts together Russian T-90 tanks in its own factories, so making a special Indian version of the T-14 is possible. It could even use an Indian-made engine called the DATRAN-1500HP. But there are some challenges. Since Russia is facing global tension, especially with Western countries, any deal with Moscow could bring diplomatic issues. For example, the United States has warned India before, even threatening tariffs, because of India's strong energy and defense ties with Russia. Also, more than 80 per cent of the parts used in India's current T-90 tanks still come from Russia. So, India is still quite dependent on Russian supplies. On top of that, other countries like the U.S., France, Germany, and Italy are also offering their own tanks for India's FRCV program.

Charter loses more broadband customers in Q2 as competition heats up
Charter Communications reported a higher-than-expected broadband subscriber loss in the second quarter on Friday, as the cable giant grappled with competition from wireless carriers that are bundling high-speed internet services with 5G mobile plans . Shares of the company fell more than 12% in early trading. Charter's internet customers decreased by 117,000 in the April-June period, compared with a 60,000 loss in the prior quarter. Analysts had expected it to shed 73,240 customers, according to Visible Alpha. Earlier this week, Charter and Comcast announced a multi-year agreement to establish a mobile virtual network operator that will use T-Mobile's 5G network to serve wireless business customers, with a commercial launch set for 2026. Charter's second-quarter revenue came in at $13.77 billion, in line with analysts' average estimate of $13.76 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.

Sridhar urges Taiwanese to invest in TG's booming textile sector
Hyderabad: Telangana's Industries and IT Minister, D Sridhar Babu, has extended a cordial invitation to Taiwanese industrialists, urging them to invest in the state's burgeoning textile sector and become integral stakeholders in the 'Rising Telangana' narrative. Highlighting the abundant opportunities available in Telangana compared to other Indian states, the Minister underscored the state's rapid emergence as a formidable player in the textile industry. On Friday, a high-level Taiwanese textile delegation, comprising 11 members and led by Justin Huang, President of the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), paid a courtesy visit to the Minister at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat. 'Within a short span, Telangana has made significant strides in the textile sector, positioning itself on par with other leading states,' the Minister stated. He noted that the Gross State Value Added (GSVA) from industries for 2024-25 stands at Rs 2.77 lakh crore, with textiles playing a key role. 'Telangana produces some of the finest quality cotton in India,' he added. Sridhar Babu emphasised that the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP), developed with special focus by the state government, has become a 'game-changer.' He explained that KMTP offers integrated, world-class infrastructure — from ginning, spinning, weaving, and processing to garmenting — all in one place. 'Leading companies like Youngone, Kitex, and Ganesha Ecosphere have already invested here,' he confirmed. The park is strategically connected to the Hyderabad–Nagpur–Vijayawada Industrial Corridor and benefits from excellent logistics and transport infrastructure. He pointed out vast opportunities for investment in areas like functional textiles, eco-friendly dyeing, and textile recycling. The Minister also assured the visiting delegation of the Telangana Government's commitment to driving industrial growth through global partnerships. 'We offer customised land parcels, plug-and-play facilities, a skilled workforce, effective leadership, a stable government, and strategic geographic advantage,' he stated. He further noted that sectors such as technical textiles, ESDM (Electronics System Design & Manufacturing), sustainable manufacturing, innovation, and R&D are ideal for collaboration with Taiwanese enterprises. Minister Sridhar Babu also proposed that, should Taiwanese investors come forward, the government would explore setting up a dedicated Telangana–Taiwan Manufacturing Zone and exclusive Textile Clusters. He reaffirmed Telangana's readiness to work closely with the Taiwan Textile Federation for the sector's growth.
