Notable team names at LPGA's Dow Championship, including the leaders, who used ChatGPT

When it came time to decide on a team name, Dow Championship leaders Cassie Porter and Gemma Dryburgh consulted ChatGPT.
The result: Kilted Koalas.
"It was the first suggestion, and I was like, hey, that's great," said Porter, who hails from Australia while partner Dryburgh is Scottish.
"And ChatGPT came up with a really nice logo. And I don't know if you've seen them, but we have really cool shirts. We'll be selling merch at the end of the week if anyone is interested."
Dryburgh and Porter opened with a 4-under 66 in the alternate shot format at Midland Country Club, recording three consecutive birdies on Nos. 14-16.
Defending champions Jeeno Thitikul and Ruoning Yin opened with a 68 and were delighted to see a sign of support on the first tee.
"It's very surprising, I would say, because I didn't expect that," said Yin, "like the fans can have the sign for us. But obviously, everyone loved Jin & Ronic."
Lexi Thompson and Megan Khang first played together – with much success – at the 2023 Solheim Cup. It was Thompson who came up with their team name this week, Biggie Smalls. There's nearly a foot difference in height between them.
"I was on board from the jump,," said Khang in their pre-tournament press conference, though they hadn't yet worked out their walk-up song. (Though the artist should be fairly easy to work out.)

Japanese twins Chisato Iwai and Akie Iwai are known as "Aki&Chizzy75," a nod to the 75th anniversary of the LPGA and their birthday, July 5. They'd be the second set of sisters to win the event, following Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn in 2021.
The first and third rounds of the event will be played in the foursomes format (alternate shot), and the second and fourth rounds will be played in the four-ball (best ball) format.
The winning team receives a standard two-year winner's exemption on the LPGA priority list. Rolex Rankings, Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year points will not be allocated.

Ichi-Roast? Suzuki Brought The Laughs to His Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

If you want someone for your next celebrity roast, Ichiro Suzuki could be your guy. Mixing sneaky humor with heartfelt messages, the first Japanese-born player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame stole the show Sunday in Cooperstown. Morning showers and gloomy skies delayed the ceremonies by an hour, but the moisture gave way to bright skies and warm temperatures. The sun seemed its brightest during Suzuki's acceptance speech. The outfielder was joined by pitcher CC Sabathia, also elected in his first year of eligibility, and closer Billy Wagner, who made it in his final try on the writers' ballot. Suzuki fell one vote shy of being a unanimous selection and he took a jab at the unidentified sports writer who didn't vote for him. "Three thousand hits or 262 hits in one season are two achievements recognized by the writers. Well, all but one," Suzuki said to roaring laughter. "By the way, the offer for the writer to have dinner at my home has now expired," he added, with emphasis on "expired" for good measure. A pair of Era Committee selections rounded out the Class of 2025: Dave Parker, who earned the nickname Cobra during 20 big league seasons, and slugger Dick Allen. Parker died June 28, just a month before he was to be inducted. An estimated 30,000 fans crowded onto the field adjacent to the Clark Sports Center, sun umbrellas and Japanese flags sprinkled around. Suzuki's No. 51 was seemingly everywhere as fans, thousands of them Seattle Mariners boosters who made the trek from the Pacific Northwest, chanted "Ichiro" several times throughout the day. A sign that read "Thank You Ichiro! Forever a Legend" in English and Japanese summed up the admiration for Suzuki on his special day. With 52 returning Hall of Famers on hand, Suzuki paid homage to his new baseball home in Cooperstown and his adoring fans by delivering his 18-minute speech in English. His humor, a surprise to many, delighted the crowd. He threw shade at the Miami Marlins, the last stop of his professional career. "Honestly, when you guys offered me a contract in 2015, I had never heard of your team," Suzuki joked. He kidded that he showed up at spring training every year with his arm "already in shape" just to hear Mariners broadcaster Rick Rizzs scream, "`Holy smokes! Another laser-beam throw from Ichiro!'" He even took a moment for some tongue-in-cheek modesty. "People often measure me by my records. Three thousand hits. Ten Gold Gloves. Ten seasons of 200 hits. "Not bad, huh?" Suzuki said to more laughs. He thanked his late agent Tony Anastasio for "getting me to America and for teaching me to love wine." But he also took time to get to the root of what made him extraordinary. "Baseball is much more than just hitting, throwing and running. Baseball taught me to make valued decisions about what is important. It helped shape my view of life and the world. … The older I got, I realized the only way I could get to play the game I loved to the age of 45 at the highest level was to dedicate myself to it completely," he said. "When fans use their precious time to see you play, you have a responsibility to perform for them whether you are winning by 10 or losing by 10. "Baseball taught me what it means to be a professional and I believe that is the main reason I am here today. I could not have achieved the numbers without paying attention to the small details every single day consistently for all 19 seasons." Now he's reached the pinnacle, overcoming doubters, one of whom said to him: "`Don't embarrass the nation.'" He's made his homeland proud. "Going into America's Baseball Hall of Fame was never my goal. I didn't even know there was one. I visited Cooperstown for the first time in 2001, but being here today sure feels like a fantastic dream." Sabathia thanked "the great players sitting behind me, even Ichiro, who stole my Rookie of the Year award (in 2001)." He paid homage to Parker and spoke about Black culture in today's game. "It's an extra honor to be a part of Dave's Hall of Fame class. He was a father figure for a generation of Black stars. In the '80s and early '90s when I first started watching baseball and Dave Parker was crushing homers, the number of Black players in the major leagues was at its highest, about 18%. Me and my friends played the game because we saw those guys on TV and there was always somebody who looked like me in a baseball uniform. "Baseball has always been a great game for Black athletes, but baseball culture has not always been great to Black people. I hope we're starting to turn that around. I don't want to be the final member of the Black aces, a Black pitcher to win 20 games. And I don't want to be the final Black pitcher giving a Hall of Fame speech." Wagner urged young players to treat obstacles not as "roadblocks, but steppingstones." "I wasn't the biggest player. I wasn't supposed to be here. There were only seven full-time relievers in the Hall of Fame. Now, there are eight because I refused to give up or give in," he said. Suzuki received 393 of 394 votes (99.7%) from the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Sabathia was picked on 342 ballots (86.8%) and Wagner on 325 (82.5%), which was 29 votes more than the 296 needed for the required 75%. After arriving in the majors in 2001, Suzuki joined Fred Lynn (1975) as the only players to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season. Suzuki was a two-time AL batting champion and 10-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner, hitting .311 with 117 homers, 780 RBIs and 509 stolen bases with Seattle, the New York Yankees and Miami. He is perhaps the best contact hitter ever, with 1,278 hits in Nippon Professional Baseball and 3,089 in MLB, including a season-record 262 in 2004. His combined total of 4,367 exceeds Pete Rose's major league record of 4,256. Sabathia, second to Suzuki in 2001 AL Rookie of the Year voting, was a six-time All-Star who won the 2007 AL Cy Young Award and a World Series title in 2009. He went 251-161 with a 3.74 ERA and 3,093 strikeouts, third among left-handers behind Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton, during 19 seasons with Cleveland, Milwaukee and the New York Yankees. A seven-time All-Star, Wagner was 47-40 with a 2.31 ERA and 422 saves for Houston, Philadelphia, the New York Mets, Boston and Atlanta. Tom Hamilton and Tom Boswell were also honored during Hall of Fame weekend. Hamilton has been the primary radio broadcaster for the Cleveland Guardians franchise for 35 seasons and received the Ford C. Frick Award. Boswell, a retired sports columnist who spent his entire career with The Washington Post, was honored with the BBWAA Career Excellence Award. Reporting by The Associated Press. AI makes game-by-game predictions for the San Francisco 49ers 2025 season

With training camps underway it's officially time to get to predictions for the 2025 NFL season. We're going to wait to make our official predictions because there are a ton of things that still need to sort themselves out with the San Francisco 49ers and around the NFL. So much can change with one injury or one trade in the preseason. That didn't stop us from turning to artificial intelligence and ChatGPT to get its thoughts on how the 49ers' season will go. We asked ChatGPT to predict how each game would go for San Francisco this season. It provided some good (and some not-so-good) analysis, but it does have a sunny outlook for the 49ers this year. Here are ChatGPT's predictions and breakdowns for each game on the 49ers' schedule, along with our thoughts on the A.I. analysis: Week 1 at Seattle Seahawks Prediction: Loss A.I. breakdown: Lumen Field is still one of the loudest barns in the league, and the Hawks' offense is humming with Geno back and a healthier line. First game of the season + divisional road game = tough L. Our thoughts: Geno is not back. Not even a little bit. Predicted record: 0-1 Week 2 at New Orleans Saints Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Derek Carr is hanging on by a thread. Niners defense should feast on a predictable Saints offense. Close, ugly game, but SF gets it done with a few turnovers and ground game domination. Our thoughts: ChatGPT, we have some terrible news about the thread Carr is hanging on by. Predicted record: 1-1 Week 3 vs. Arizona Cardinals Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Revenge game. Niners got embarrassed last year by Arizona twice, and they're gonna be (mad). Expect pressure on Kyler, who still struggles when the pocket collapses. The home crowd helps seal it. Our thoughts: Love a Week 3 revenge game. The key to pressuring Kyler is making sure he doesn't get outside the pocket, and making sure he's not finding wide open receivers behind broken coverage. Predicted record: 2-1 Week 4 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Prediction: Loss A.I. breakdown: This is a letdown spot. Jags have weapons everywhere and Ridley 2.0 is looking like the real deal. Trevor Lawrence goes toe-to-toe with Purdy and pulls off a late 4th quarter dagger Our thoughts: Calvin Ridley hasn't played for the Jaguars since 2023. Did it mean Brian Thomas is Ridley 2.0? Predicted record: 2-2 Week 5 at Los Angeles Rams (TNF) Prediction: Loss A.I. breakdown: Short week, cross-stat travel, Sean McVay brain magic. Rams just added another WR weapon for Stafford, and this offense will be too much for a 49ers secondary still figuring itself out. Our thoughts: Don't hate the analysis, but "Sean McVay brain magic" is crazy. Predicted record: 2-3 Week 6 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Tampa's defense is aging, and Baker's due for a classic 3-pick meltdown. Niners run game eats clock, and this feels like a grind-it-out 23-13 type of W. Our thoughts: Baker Mayfield has thrown three or more interceptions in a game twice since 2020. 49ers-Bucs games do always seem to be a slog, though. Predicted record: 3-3 Week 7 vs. Atlanta Falcons (SNF) Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Atlanta's secondary is nasty, but the 49ers will lean on quick passes and Kittle in space. Drake London and Bijan might pop, but Niners at home are too steady. Our thoughts: "49ers will lean on quick passes and Kittle in space" works for every single game. Predicted record: 4-3 Week 8 at Houston Texans Prediction: Loss A.I. breakdown: Stroud is HIM. If SF can't pressure him, he'll pick them apart like he did in the playoffs. This is one of those games that reveals how far SF still needs to go. Our thoughts: *In the most Jim Mora Sr. voice you have ever heard in your life* PLAYOFFS?! Predicted record: 4-4 Week 9 at New York Giants Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: New York is rebuilding, and Daniel Jones might be benched by now. Niners defense goes off. Easy win. Our thoughts: "Daniel Jones might be benched by now" isn't necessarily wrong. He'll just be benched in Indianapolis. Predicted record: 5-4 Week 10 vs. Los Angeles Rams Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Split the series. This is the "get right" game for SF after a rocky middle stretch. Big day for the defense forcing Stafford into mistakes. Our thoughts: A "get right" game after winning three-of-four is hilarious. Predicted record: 6-4 Week 11 at Arizona Cardinals Prediction: Loss A.I. breakdown: Cards are scrappy, and Kyler goes full chaos mode at home. He's good for one "WTF how did he do that" game a season. This is it. Our thoughts: Hard to argue with that, to be honest. Predicted record: 6-5 Week 12 vs. Carolina Panthers (MNF) Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Panthers are still building. Bryce Young's size is an issue vs a physical D-line like SF's. Should be a two-plus turnover game for the defense. Our thoughts: Love the idea that Young's size is specifically only a real problem against the 49ers DL. Predicted record: 7-5 Week 13 at Cleveland Browns Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Cleveland is a hot mess and likely on backup QB duty. Niners front seven bullies them all game. Our thoughts: Even artificial intelligence knows the Browns are the Browns. Predicted record: 8-5 Week 15 vs. Tennessee Titans Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Tennessee will be mailing it in by now. Rookie QB Cam Ward gets fed to the wolves. Expect some creative blitz packages and a comfortable dub. Our thoughts: If the 49ers are breaking out blitz packages, it's not likely to be against Tennessee. Predicted record: 9-5 Week 16 at Indianapolis Colts (MNF) Prediction: Loss A.I. breakdown: Trap game after a few wins. Richardson's legs make just enough of a difference, and Niners look sluggish out of the dome. Loss stings. Our thoughts: Out of the dome? Daniel Jones did get benched, though! Predicted record: 9-6 Week 17 vs. Chicago Bears (SNF) Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: This might be Caleb Williams' coronation game -- but the Niners ruin it. They pressure him all night, rattle him early, and ride the crowd to a statement win. Our thoughts: It is hard to imagine the 49ers steamrolling Chicago like they did last season in a 38-13 Week 14 win. Predicted record: 10-6 Week 18 vs. Seattle Seahawks Prediction: Win A.I. breakdown: Full circle. Playoff spot on the line. Niners pull out all the stops at Levi's, defense clamps up, and McCaffrey goes for 100+ yards to lock it up. Our thoughts: Beating Seattle at home to clinch a playoff berth would be an all-time Levi's Stadium moment. Predicted record: 11-6 Playoff outlook A.I. breakdown: If they go 10-7 in the NFC, they're in the Wild Card for sure. Probably 6th seed, with potential to go on a run depending on health and defensive consistency. Our thoughts: ChatGPT can't do math, but 11-6 should certainly secure a wild card spot, and if the 49ers are playing well going into January we've seen how dangerous Kyle Shanahan's teams can be.
