Manhunt for serial killer Sohrab expands to Nepal border
Sohrab and his brothers, Saleem and Rustam, both currently lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail, are natives of Sadar Bazaar in the Cantt police station area. Police records link the trio to a string of violent crimes in the state capital, with Sohrab allegedly leading many of these operations.
Acting on intelligence inputs suggesting Sohrab may be attempting to flee to Nepal, the Special Task Force (STF) has intensified operations in Moradabad, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and across the Nepal border. Raids are underway at multiple suspected hideouts, and teams from the UP STF, Delhi Police, and intelligence agencies are jointly coordinating the search.
Sohrab's wife, Sanno, along with several other family members, has been questioned. STF sources indicated that during his absconding period, Sohrab allegedly extorted money from individuals across various cities. Three dedicated STF teams have been assigned to track him.
'Raids are continuing and operations will remain active until his arrest,' an STF official said, without disclosing further details.
Sohrab's criminal record includes cases from 2005 and 2006, with police alleging his role in multiple murders. One such case occurred on Eid, when three people were allegedly gunned down by Sohrab and his aides, just a year after a similar killing was reported on Ramzan eve. Police officials claimed that before one of these murders, they received a threatening call from Sohrab warning them to 'stop if you can.'
Amid growing concerns over his disappearance, Gopal Sharma, a key eyewitness in one of the murder cases, has sought protection from chief minister Yogi Adityanath. In a letter addressed to the CM, Sharma wrote, 'If criminals like Sohrab roam freely, we witnesses are under threat.'

STF arrests arms dealer in Bhojpur, seizes illegal weapons
Patna: A Special Task Force (STF) team led by DSP Rajiv Ranjan arrested a notorious arms dealer and seized a huge cache of illegal weapons in Bhojpur district on Thursday. STF in-charge, ADG Kundan Krishnan, said, "Acting on a confidential intelligence, the STF conducted a raid at the residence of Raj Kapoor alias Raj Kumar in Kamariya village under the Azimabad police station. UP's Chhangur Baba converted over 1,500 Hindu women, son had Swiss account: Sources
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has unearthed a massive illegal religious conversion racket allegedly operated by Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba, who is accused of converting over 1,500 Hindu women and thousands of other non-Muslims to Islam through coercion and inducement, police sources told India Today to officials, Chhangur Baba — originally from Madhpur in UP's Balrampur district — systematically targeted vulnerable groups, including poor, widowed, and helpless women. He is alleged to have used a mix of allurements and threats to expand his network, which had deep links not just across Indian states but also internationally, including a presence in Special Task Force (STF) first began probing Chhangur Baba's activities after credible intelligence indicated a large-scale conversion racket. Following the trail, the case was handed over to the ATS, which is now identifying people who became the target of the alleged syndicate. Officials said that many individuals are still reluctant to come forward or testify against the self-styled godman. Sources in the ATS claimed that Chhangur Baba built an extensive network in Maharashtra, operating around Mumbai's Dargahs where he sold rings as a front for his outreach. Over time, he became part of an international syndicate allegedly backed by Gulf-based organisations. Investigators are also looking into allegations that crores of rupees were funnelled from abroad through NRE-NRO accounts to bankroll his annual Urs events at the Chand Auliya Dargah, where Chhangur Baba is believed to have hosted foreign guests, more people were allegedly lured into conversion programmes. He reportedly planned to set up Islamic Dawah centres and madrasas in Balrampur and nearby districts to systematically alter the local demographic have found that Chhangur Baba's influence extended to local administration and law enforcement. An STF report claimed he bribed police and local intelligence officers to look the other way, and used false cases to silence his with Changur Baba, his associate Neetu alias Nasreen has also been arrested and sent to seven-day ATS custody. Intelligence Bureau (IB) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials are set to interrogate the duo to trace foreign funding routes and uncover further links, sources said. Naveen alias Jamaluddin and Mehboob, Chhangur Baba's son, had already been arrested earlier and remain in Lucknow District have also found that Naveen allegedly purchased land in Balrampur with funds received from Dubai, and reportedly maintained an account in a Swiss bank. ATS teams are now scanning Chhangur Baba's mobile phones and electronic devices to recover records linked to conversion activities, international transactions, and details of his wider Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has termed Chhangur Baba's activities not just "anti-social" but "anti-national". Bengal Police get details on how arrested spies helped Pak handlers get Indian numbers for WhatsApp
The sleuths of the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police have secured specific information on how Mukesh Rajak and Rakesh Kumar Gupta, the two suspected ISI linkmen arrested in the state earlier this week, used to help their handlers in Pakistan to get Indian mobile numbers for WhatsApp messaging purposes. In the face of interrogation, the duo who are in police custody now have admitted that they used to procure prepaid mobile cards from the market using multiple Indian identity cards. After those SIM cards and numbers were activated, the duo used to pass them to their Pakistani handlers. Subsequently, those numbers were used to open fake WhatsApp accounts. The duo also used to share the OTPs with their Pakistani handlers, required to activate WhatsApp for those numbers. Sources said that to operate silently without much attention, the duo started operating under the garb of an NGO and that too from a rented accommodation in a place like Memari in East Burdwan district, which otherwise does not have many records of crime-related activities. The state police insiders said the duo gave contradictory introductions about themselves to the owner of the apartment they rented and to their neighbours. While to the owner, they introduced themselves as teachers of the English language; to the neighbours, they introduced themselves as heads of an NGO involved in different social welfare activities. As told by the neighbours to the investigating officials, although in the locality Rajak and Gupta were known as true gentlemen, their interactions in the locality were limited. The neighbours also told the cops that at times, some people used to come to meet them and stay at the rented accommodation for some time. While Rajak was a resident of Panagarh in the West Burdwan district, Gupta was a resident of Bhawanipur in South Kolkata. The cops doubt that Gupta and Rajak were part of a major espionage racket. The investigating officials have already seized the mobile phones of the duo. The investigating officials are tracking the period when the arrested men had been operating as ISI linkmen, and also what kind of information they shared with their associates in Pakistan.
