However, he did not have to wait for the answer for long. Sooner than anticipated, he put himself together, and what followed thereafter was a calendar full of activities, mostly dedicated to the causes dear to him. Dwyane Wade, indeed, had the power to make a difference in the world around him. He called his multiple activities a way of 'giving back to the people.' Here is how he achieved the unthinkable with his sheer power and empathetic approach.
Dwyane Wade suffered major setback right after leaving NBA
While Dwyane Wade's NBA career was decorated with achievements, his life right after the retirement didn't turn as he wanted. Wade started experiencing digestive and urinary issues, which were later diagnosed as Stage 1 cancer in right kidney. In 'The Why with Wade' podcast, he opened up about the same:
'That moment was probably the weakest point I've ever felt in my life.
The moments I was by myself, I was struggling.'
Dwyane Wade tears up while reflecting on kidney cancer diagnosis
Dwyane Wade emerged victorious from the medical challenge after getting his tumor removed in December 2023.
On his podcast, Wade used his experiences to influence people and helped them find positivity even in situations when everything went against them.
Dwyane Wade donned writer's hat in 2012 to talk about parenting
Dwyane Wade, while struggling through his cancer, kept his mind at work. He talked about struggles as a single father. Later, Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, opted for surrogacy.

They found it useful to talk about the challenges people face and chose books as a way to normalize issues parents refrain from talking about.
Wade wrote the book 'A Father First' to talk about the challenges he faced while raising his sons as a single father. The book was published in 2012 and became a bestseller.
Wade and his wife co-authored another book, which was a children's picture book. The book was titled Shady Baby.
Through this book, they shared how to convert shade into power, and normalized methods like surrogacy and discussions around the same.
Dwyane Wade had to tackle another challenging situation when their daughter, Zaya, came out as transgender. Talking about that phase and how they protected their child from hate around, he shared:
'I'm such a proud father, and I try to post my kids.
So, as my child got older and got confident and comfortable with us talking more about her and talking more about her situation, that's when we did.'
His push to accepting the identity and instilling confidence led to launch of a digital platform, Translatable, which went on to become a valuable resource for LGBTQ+ community.
Dwyane Wade invested in NBA, WNBA, and NHL franchises
Dwyane Wade used his financial footing and love for sports to stay closer to the games. He acquired stakes in NBA, WNBA, and NHL teams to pump in money and resources for the betterment of these sports.
Apart from investing in franchises, he has agreed to be a studio analyst for Prime Video's coverage of the 2025-26 season.
Wade made it a point not to let his ailment get the better of him. He channelized his energy into meaningful causes and built an empire out of his ability to connect to people and express himself with no reservations.
Dwyane Wade's other notable ventures in food, wine, beauty, fashion, and luxury accessories industries
Whatever Dwyane does comes from the space of pushing his community to the forefront of things. He started a beauty products line aimed at providing cosmetic solutions to people of color.
His successful wine venture, Wade Cellars, partnered with the Jones sisters, who owned an Inglewood, Calif., establishment, to enable the expansion of the Black-owned wine community. One of the Jones sisters, Leslie, commented, as per an Athletic's report:
'Every time I get to speak about him in the wine space, I love to do it.
I think that he, better than anyone, has used his platform and used his celebrity (status) to push the Black wine community along.'
'He brought on all Black-owned wine brands to be the vendors.'
Another fixation of Dwyane Wade is fashion and accessories. He struck deals with Versace and rolled out an eyewear line. His association with luxury watch brand Hublot gave birth to a luxury watch line, King Power D-Wade, launched in 2011.
They collaborated again for the second edition and introduced the Classic Fusion Dwyane Wade.
Wade partnered with Chinese sportswear company Li-Ning and rolled out the clothing line Way of Wade. It further diversified into shoes, apparel, and accessories, too.
The most noteworthy contribution of Dwyane Wade is in the field of food and culinary sciences. He supported his manager's hairstylist, Richard Ingraham, who was a culinary expert too.
With Wade's support, Ingraham started Chef RLI, which went on to become a connecting platform for chefs and celebrities.

Jonas Valanciunas Drops 5-Word Reaction to EuroLeague Rumors, Confirms Denver Nuggets Commitment for 2025-26?

Jonas Valanciunas (Image Source - Getty Images) Jonas Valanciunas has officially confirmed that he will stay with the Denver Nuggets for the 2025-26 NBA season, putting an end to growing speculation about a possible return to European basketball. The 6-foot-11 Lithuanian center turned down a lucrative three-year offer worth nearly €12 million (around $36 million) from Greek EuroLeague giants Panathinaikos, choosing instead to honor his current NBA contract. In a statement to Valanciunas addressed the situation directly: 'I want to clear the air about my playing situation next season now that Denver has made their decision to keep me. The idea of playing for Panathinaikos, closer to home, was very exciting to me, but that will have to wait. I am fully committed to honoring my contract with the Denver Nuggets this season and will give it my all to compete for a championship. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski, File) Jonas Valanciunas was acquired by the Denver Nuggets in a July 2025 trade with the Sacramento Kings that sent Dario Šarić to California. The move was made to add veteran size and toughness next to MVP Nikola Jokić in the frontcourt. According to Nuggets executive VP of basketball operations Ben Tenzer, discussions with Valanciunas and his representatives were smooth, and there were 'no concerns' about him showing up for training camp. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cat Keeps Hugging Friend Before Going To The Vet – The Vet Paled When He Saw Them Tips and Tricks Undo The 33-year-old is entering the final guaranteed year of his contract, worth $10.4 million. There is also a non-guaranteed $10 million team option for the 2026-27 season. With Denver ruling out any potential buyout, the only route for an early exit would have been a holdout—something Valanciunas has decisively shut down. Jonas Valanciunas' Expected Role with the Denver Nuggets Jonas Valanciunas is coming off a solid season split between the Washington Wizards and Sacramento Kings , averaging 10.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2 assists per game across 81 appearances. He also shot 55% from the field and nearly 88% from the free-throw line. Denver plans to use him primarily as a reliable backup to Jokić, who logged a career-high 36.7 minutes per game last season. His presence is expected to solidify the second unit and reduce the MVP's workload. This move finalizes an active offseason for Denver's front office, which also added Cameron Johnson, brought back Bruce Brown, and signed veteran scorer Tim Hardaway Jr. The front office, led by Tenzer and GM Jonathan Wallace, is clearly focused on building a deeper roster after last season's narrow playoff exit. NBA Over EuroLeague—for Now Jonas Valanciunas is also preparing to represent Lithuania at the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket, which Denver officials may use as an opportunity to monitor his form and conditioning. Though the temptation of playing closer to home in the EuroLeague was strong, the veteran center remains locked in on competing at the NBA level. In reaffirming his commitment, Valanciunas has provided clarity not only for Denver's front office and fans but also for the EuroLeague market. His decision highlights a dedication to honoring his current NBA obligations while keeping the door open for a potential European return down the line. Lakers Rumor: Dalton Knecht's Trade Value Reportedly Tanks After Disappointing Summer League Showing With Los Angeles

Miami Heat's smart trade strategy puts Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht in spotlight (Image Source: Getty Images) The NBA Summer League can either showcase a young player's potential or expose their flaws—and for Dalton Knecht , it was the latter. Once seen as a promising asset with first-round trade value, Knecht's underwhelming performance in Las Vegas has caused his stock to nosedive. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers are left with a player whose market appeal has faded fast. Dalton Knecht's Journey From Draft Steal to Trade Bait When the Lakers selected Dalton Knecht with the 17th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, it was widely regarded as a savvy move. He entered the league after a breakout season at Tennessee, with great size, shooting range, and a scorer's mindset. Some even believed he could be a central piece in future trades for established talent. But those high expectations quickly clashed with on-court reality. Summer League Struggles for Knecht Rather than cementing his value, Knecht's Summer League stint raised serious doubts. - Inefficient Scoring: He averaged just 10.3 points over three games, shooting only 27.9% from the field and 23.8% from beyond the arc. - One Standout Game, Then Silence: A lone 25-point performance was overshadowed by poor shot selection and recurring defensive issues. - Minimal Impact Beyond Scoring: When his shot wasn't falling, Dalton Knecht struggled to contribute in other areas—failing to make a mark as a playmaker, rebounder, or defender. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dubai's Next Icon: Experience Binghatti Aquarise Luxury Binghatti Developers FZE Learn More Undo For a player drafted to be a shooting threat, this lack of versatility and efficiency was deeply concerning. How Knecht's Trade Value is in Free Fall League insiders have confirmed what many already feared: Knecht is no longer viewed as a first-round-level trade asset. Teams around the league now see him as a limited contributor with a niche role at best—hardly the type of player that moves the needle in major trade discussions. Why His Value Dropped - Age: At 24, Knecht is older than most developing prospects, which limits his perceived growth potential. - Defensive Weaknesses: He has shown difficulty keeping up with quicker wings and grasping complex defensive schemes. - Undefined Role: Without reliable shooting or playmaking, scouts wonder if he's destined to be a bench piece rather than a starter. - Disappointing Summer League: Rather than silencing critics, his performance reinforced existing concerns. Los Angeles Lakers' Missed Opportunities The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly tried to include Knecht in several trade packages—once as part of a deal for center Mark Williams, and later in proposals meant to clear cap space or acquire veteran help. Initially viewed as a sweetener, Knecht's name has now lost most of its leverage. Rival teams have shown little interest, with some unwilling to even offer a second-round pick in return. Fans Begin to Accept Reality Lakers fans, once excited about Dalton Knecht's shooting potential, are now coming to terms with a different picture. Many agree he's not ready to contribute meaningfully, and hopes of him being a trade centerpiece have all but vanished. Online discussions around his trade value often result in disbelief and mockery. Can Dalton Knecht Turn Things Around? There's still a sliver of hope. Dalton Knecht has reportedly committed to a rigorous workout schedule and is working closely with head coach JJ Redick to improve his defense and decision-making. The Los Angeles Lakers aren't ready to completely write him off, recognizing that player development isn't always linear. Also read: Golden State Warriors Reportedly Almost Landed $251,019,650 Phoenix Suns Superstar Amid Buyout Rumors But after a rough showing in Vegas, he'll need a dramatic turnaround next season to restore his value. For now, Dalton Knecht is no longer viewed as a first-round asset—and that's a tough blow for both him and the franchise that believed in him.
